  1. +1 on the TS, but that all depends on which Division you want to shoot? I have bigger hands, so after shooting the TS for a while the 75 grip seems puney. I love my TS!
  2. Dugiv, what size slide do you have? The problem with having too little barrel sticking out is obvious, but the problem with say a 6" barrel in a longslide is that you have too much barrel sticking out. The comp is made to accept about 0.6" of threaded barrel, so if you have 1.25" sticking out, you'll want to cut it down; if you cut it, you need to re crown it or it won't shoot straight. If you could locate a Gold Team conversion kit in .40, you could ream the chamber to 10mm (of course I don't think Gold Team conversions are any easier to come by than 6" barrels). I'm actually using a 5.1" CZ Tactical Sport barrel which sticks out of my SP01 slide by 0.6" (just right, no cutting needed): As far as the guide rod goes, you'll want about 0.25" extra stiking through the slide into the comp to keep in indexed. In the picture above I actually was using the stock SP01 guide rod so the comp was indexed on the frame rails, but since the comp wanted to unscrew while shooting, the rails scratched the comp a little. I have since ordered a guiderod from a Tanfoglio longslide which is just the right length.
  3. Success! It is confirmed, the thread pitch for Tanfoglio small frame is M14X0.75, unconfirmed, but highly suspected is that the thread pitch for Tanfoglio large frame is M15X0.75.
  4. Thank you for helping me keep my ego under control Sarge.
  5. I'm just curious what the veterans have to say. I'm not new to compeditive pistol shooting, but new to USPSA; I've shot in three matches so far and my focus has been on these three points (in order): 1. get the gun working - I bought a brand new CZ Tactical Sport which seemed to have at least one malfunction per stage; I tried everythng I could think of until in my second match, I took out the factory recoil buffer and 250 rounds later I haven't had a single problem. 2. relax 3. shoot As I have this overwhelming confidence that all I have to do is shoot As and I will naturally speed up, is this a sound theory? So to trak my progress, I decided to keep tabs on two things: As shot/shots fired and my classifier score. Is this a common marker for improvement? In my first three matches, the marks have been: 76%, D; 74%, D; 85%, B My fast match is the fist one I finished without a malfunction; it seems like when I'm not clearing jams, I also tend to shoot more As. The Qualifier (CM09-13) also happened to be my best stage, I ended up placing sixth overall of 27 shooters; beat by the three Open shooters and two Limited shooters (one Master and one Unclassified). I'm shooting L10 right now because I figure the only way to become a proficient reloader is to reload. Often.
  6. What a badass! I shoot Limited because I fell for the Tactical Sport the first time I shot it; I just sent the slide off to fat camp, so I'm going to be shooting Production with my Jericho this month... We'll see how that transition works. Already I find myself selling off guns that don't fit into one of the divisions, I see myself with a gun for each division one day (Single Stack is going to be tourture!).
  7. That is so cute! I'm going to send it to my wife. I started shooting 'real guns' at ten, by twelve I had a shoebox full of Junior Olymic/National metals in 14 & under, then by 14 I was on the Junior Olympic Development Team shooting internationally in 21 & under; my sons are three and eighteen months so naturally I already have a collection of little guns!
  8. I would not worry about plastic parts, I have never heard of anyone breaking a TS trigger, nor guiderod (I can't say the same for steel) and even if you do break them, they're cheap to replace; besides, I'm definetly not interested in adding more weight to my TS. On the downside, you do loose the privilege of talking smack to Glock guys about their plastic guns. One advantage to the Tanfoglio is the availability of slides/barrels; if you want to mess around with lightening cuts or a shorter slide for a comp and screw up with the Tanfo, call up and order another for a few hundred bucks. If you want another TS slide, you might have to sell your soul! I have owned both the TS and the Tanfoglio, the choice was tough for me as are both great pistols, but I went with the TS and there's no going back now.
  9. Isn't it nice to be surrounded by likeminded people?!? I feel so normal.
  10. Since this subforum is getting flooded with complaints, I though I would be a contrarian, share how much I like the new site (especially the Droid version) and how impressed I am with the fast turnaround! My company's site was hacked and it took me a month to find a specialist, then have them deconstruct and rebuild. Nice work!
  11. Thanks for the reply Beven (and proving the thread is never dead!), that's amazing you can get 29 into a small frame mag, the same mag should fit a small frame Tanfoglio right? Now that I think about it, the 9mm TS mags have ribs which pinch in the stagger to nearly the same width as the small frame right? I guess the big benefit of the wide mag is the .40.
  12. Good point, momentary insanity I guess.
  13. Beven, this doesn't make sense to me, you can get the same amount of rounds into a small frame mag as you can get into a TS mag? The most I've heard of in a small frame big stick is 26? 29 sounds right for a TS big stick with extended basepad and modified follower.

+1 on that! Are you thinking one based on a 97B (basiacally a fat grip Gold Team), or something totally new???
  15. Just an update on my previous post: I bought a stock, large frame Tanfoglio firing pin from Numrich, reshaped the sides and trimmed the length to make an extended firing pin for my Uzi Eagle. Now the 11.5# hammer spring lights off 100% of the time and the 8.5# lights off about 50%. I'm going to talk to Wolff springs about a reduced power firing pin spring (it's longer than a CZ) and see if I can run the 8.5# spring 100% (I even have a 7.5# to play with...). All told the trigger is coming in at 6.0# DA and 2.3# SA. I do however think the bar spring of the CZ75 gives it a slight advantage over the trigger plunger of the Baby Eagle/Tanfoglio the best combo might be a CZ trigger combigned with a heavy Tanfoglio hammer (I just bought a 75B today so I'll have to give it a try).
  16. Stuart, what hammer spring have you got in there? I can't get the 8.5# spring to light off more that half the time in my 941, so I'm using the 11.5# reliably right now, but my DA is around 6#???
  17. I just came back from testing my custom extended firing pin on my Uzi Eagle. I love that gun and I want to use it in production while I send my TS off to the fat farm, but no one makes an extended firing pin for slide safety models, so I made one! I bought a stock Tanfoglio large frame firing pin, shaved down the sides to match the Jericho, then trimmed it to 2.480" (the number Henning uses for extended small frame Tanfos). Unfortunately the firing pin spring is longer on the clones than on CZs, so I can't get a reduced power firing pin spring either. Today I installed my new firing pin, clipped some coils and went to the range with my 8.5# hammer spring installed... I got light strikes about half the time, so I went to the car and switched to the 11.5# and shot 100 rounds trouble free. Since I'm obsessed with pushing the limits of what these guns are capable of, I think I'm going to call Wolff springs and see if they have a lighter spring that will work for me. I think a big reason my Jericho seems to be less prone to light strikes than CZ75s (I can run bone stock with a 13# spring all day with any ammo I want) is the hammer; the clones (Witness, Jericho, I don't have direct experience with any others) use a full width hammer, like the TS, but the CZs use a hammer which is machined down to be narrower for some reason. I think it's this lighter hammer which contributes to light strikes when pushing it to the failure point.
  18. The Inner Game of Tennis is a useful book for competitors of every stripe.
  19. I'm just a new guy, but has anyone ever had an issue with this?
  20. Cajun gun works sells 11.5# hammer springs. If you're going to cut coils, don't be lazy! Try the spring after every coil, or even half coil.
  21. For flat items I use automotive wet sanding paper stretched tight over a smooth block and lubed with gun oil; 600 grit, 1500, then 2000. For contoured parts I use a felt wheel with rubbing compound, polishing compound, then if I'm feeling especially AR, automotive wax.
  22. I inherited a bottle of rem oil from my dad as a kid, but when I was trying to get my brand new TS to run right I tried Slide Guide (the factory buffer turned out to be the problem) and fell in love with the was it make my gun feel; I'm now an SG guy for life!
