  1. Yes, you need to buy a complete .40 upper receiver (slide, barrel recoil spring); the problem is finding one, CZ USA does not sell slides. The only way I know to get one is to catch CZ Custom with an unfit blank in stock and have them fit it to your frame for about $500. The outside dimensions of a 9mm mag are the same as a .40 mag, only the feed lips are different; you can shoot 9mm out of a .40 mag (although I wouldn't trust my life or a match to the reliability), but not the other way around.
  2. from the few reviews on brownells , people don't seem to like it. How is your experience with this set? +1 on the Brownell's set, I love mine; when you bend/mushroom one of the tips, just yank it out and replace it.
  3. I love my Uzi Eagle! I run a 13# hammer spring from a Beretta 92F and the trigger is amazing, you're right about the full length dust cover soaking up recoil and the slide is also lighter than the CZ75 and it's clones (the new Witness Classic looks like it would be close). That being said, the slide mounted de-cocker safety dictates that you start hammer down and shot the first shot DA, however, the best shooter at my club shoot this way with his de-cocker Beretta pretty successfully. I have been on the hunt for an elusive, frame safety model for some time now; with the ability to start cocked and locked, this would be the only gun for me to shoot in production (alright, twist my arm and I'll shoot an SP01). As far as parts go, PM me if you need any, I have them all! Many CZ/Tanfo parts work in these guns with little or no customizing; this gun was home to the SA trigger and hammer from a CZ Tactical sport for a little while until I got into USPSA shooting and had to start using the safety.
  4. Do you use the CZC base pads on the 140s?
  5. No, the +3 gets it to 20 from 17 in a 140mm .40 mag. As far as I know, the options are: .40 Major - 20rnds in 140mm, 23-24 in 170mm, off the shelf ammo 9mm Minor - 20rnds??? in 140mm (this is what I'm really asking about), 29 in 170mm, off the shelf ammo 9mm Major - " ", start buying reloading equipment, ask the wife to put the kids to bed by herself while I play with ammo in the garage...
  6. What mags are you all running in your Open CZs? I know the 170mm base pad from CZCustom gets 29 rounds of 9mm, but what about 140mm mags? Do you run all big sticks? I know the +3 base pads from CZCustom (http://czcustom.com/cztacticalsportextendedbasepadsilverspring-1.aspx) work on .40, but not 9mm because the ribs in the mag don't go all the way down and the stagger gets too wide. The Czechmate comes with two 20s and a big stick, but are the 20s worth it? All these questions come out of the fact that I shoot a .40 TS in Limited and love it, but dream of building a comp'ed upper just for the fun of it. I shoot out of the box BVAC ammo which makes major easily and I don't currently reload so I'm not nuts about the idea of 9major. I know the advantage of 9mm is the capacity, but if the only option is 20rnds or big stick, what's the big advantage? The 140mm mags in .40 hold 20 and I'm thinking if I get the 170mm 9 mag, mill out the grooves, and open the lips, I should be able to fit 23-24 rounds of .40. So what is everyone carrying for their CZ 9s?
  7. I use the Hogue wraparound grips on every pistol I own; the TS, large frame Witness and the 97B take a little love to make them fit, but they all feel great to me.
  8. This is what my Rapid Fire pistol looks like, so you don't really grip the gun, it grips you.
  9. So do you keep the pistol so still by technique alone? Sorry to ask such a noob question, but I've only been shooting practical pistol for two months now. I used to shoot 25M Rapid Fire with a ported .22 short with target loads traveling 630FPS, so recoil control is something new to me. All my center fire shooting has been bullseye style: relaxed, leaned back, just rolling with the recoil.
  10. burningsquirrels, talk to me about this gun you're shooting in the second clip? so little muzzle flip, is it an SP01 9mm? Do you just have the iron grip of a teenage boy with a stack of Playboys? I must know!
  11. Middle Man and ohsevenflhx what differences have you noticed with the stainless guide rod over the stumpy plastic one? burningsquirrels I bought my TS new and it did not come with the buffer installed, but a note which said to use it on the .40. Have any of you tried a Sprinco guide rod? What do you think?
  12. That's great to hear, I'll be shooting a steel match on Thursday, so we'll see how it goes.
  13. My TS had a nosedive round in each stage of my first match with it; I've been going crazy trying to figure it out: polished the feed ramp, polished the breech face, still nose divin'. I've been getting pretty pissed that my $400 clones eat up anything I feed them yet my $1,200 TS is jamming!!! I never thought of the buffer; I guess it's time to shit can that little piece of plastic.

    WTB CZ parts

If you're looking for brand new, most of those parts are pretty cheap directly from CZ; CZ Custom has the rest.
  15. Stan-O, I prefer the factory ten round mags from EAA. I've bought four of them off Ebay for less than $15 each shipped.
  16. Negative, large frame Witness magazines are dimensionally identical to CZ97B magazines; I use them in mine. $25 each from EAA beats the hell out of $40 each from CZ.
  17. I looked into it and it was about $80 US for shipping.
  18. CZ Custom quoted me $500 fitted for a second upper on my TS
  19. That's not a bad idea. I looking at buying comp setup with a black comp and a wonder finish slide for a silver gun; just sounds ugly...
  20. Like the title says, has anyone ever refinished a wonder finish part? is it even possible?
  21. Look at the bottom of the grip, if it has a mainspring plug, it's small framed, if not, large framed; the small frame guns have a hammer spring inside the back strap like CZs, but the large frame models have a transverse hammer spring to keep the grip from getting too big (something the CZ guys forgot to do with the 97B).
  22. Just a tip: don't order ANYTHING from the website, always call and explain EXACTLY what you want.
  23. I love my Jericho, polygonal rifling right out of the box; for the price can't beat it.
