  1. John Amidon: The rules stipulate you can replace slides with either factory or aftermarket as long as they are of the same length, contour and caliber. The rules also state that Removing or disabling firing-pin blocks or any other factory safety mechanism in Production division is specifically prohibited. The question he asked was it possible to replace the slide of the SP-o1 with an SP-Shadow, both are on the approved list, as I stated in my reply as long as it meets the division criteria, that would include the above of not removing or disabling firing-pin blocks, if switching the slides requires the removal of the firing pin block, then obviously it cannot be done per the rules. If he had stated at the time that it would be removing the firing pin block, then I would have told him no, it is up to him to comply with the rules, if only have questions are asked, then you get the answer you want, but that does not relieve you of following the rules. John kneelingatlas: The firing pin block is a part of the slide assembly. John Amidon: Then the part about removing or disabling the firing-pin block not being allowed, should give the clear answer NO, it is not legal per appendix D4 item 22. John John Amidon: Also, that is why I said in the answer, as long as it meets the criteria of the division. Obviously, it doesn’t. John kneelingatlas: Thank you for clearing that up John, if you don't mind I'd like to share your responses on the Brian Enos Forums. John Amidon: No problem. 2. Below are direct quotes from an email conversation with John Amidon, USPSA Vice President/NROI Director, for your information: kneelingatlas: Mr. Amidon, CZ Custom sells complete Shadow uppers (http://czcustom.com/cz75shadow9mmtopend.aspx) is this upper installed on my SP01 USPSA Production Legal? Thank you John Amidon: The rules state that you can replace the barrel and slide with aftermarket as long as they are the same caliber, contour and size, it however, also states that Removing or disabling firing-pin blocks or any other factory safety mechanism in Production division is specifically prohibited. Also, (8.1.2.4). It is the competitors responsibility to be able to demonstrate at any time that all factory safety mechanisms are functional, regardless of whether they are internal or external. Short answer would be no, it is not legal in Production as it removes or disables one of the factory safties. kneelingatlas: Good afternoon John, I really hate to be a pest, but I posted you response to my question regarding a Shadow slide on a SP01 frame and another forum member forwarded me an email he received from you in January which appears to call it a legal configuration; have you changed your mind on this matter? I, as well as many others who bought Shadow slides from CZC for this very purpose, would really appreciate clarification. 3. Has anyone ever transfered a gun to you without exchanging the cash first? I know I wouldn't, would you just trust a guy to give you the cash ten days after the pistol is legally transfered into his name? The DROS is not the time to figure out if the gun is clean or not; if you're not positive don't start the paperwork, once it starts, the gun is no longer yours and it would be hell trying to get it back.
  4. I don't know about where you live, but where I am they can't do that any more; now they need a case number to go with and records request.
  5. It sounds sketchy, I would walk. You start the DROS on his 500 at the same time he starts the DROS on your auto, the 500 does come back stollen, you walk away empty handed. The FFL can't just give you your auto back once you've transferred it. If the work "stolen" even enters your mind, but you're still willing to take the risk, I would try to work a buy instead of a trade, it would be much more simple.
  6. All i'm saying is that shooting minor isn't the big of a deal that people make it out to be. If people actually thought about it (which nobody does) they would understand. A friend of mine made a good point recently when he said "if you shot 95+% of the available points (which I generally do), how much would minor scoring hurt you?" That really made me think... Shooting Open I haven't been able to get the gun to shoot very flat without being really close to major anyway, so I don't think there's any advantage there, but I do have a 9mm TS I'm thinking of pulling out for Limited minor sometime as an experiment... that is, if I can ever put down my Open guns .
  7. I almost never make up shots, but then again I usually score more than 90% of the available points. Some guys prefer to hose away and worry about points later (and it may very well be the optimal strategy for them) but I much prefer shooting a pace at which I can score 90%+. Slow times can usually be accounted for in movement from one array to another, botched stage plans and looking for targets, THAT is where you can realize some speed!
  8. Yes, the rear sight is the same as the Super Sight on the Tanfoglio and is close enough to the Bomar cut for 1911s.
  9. I actually just picked up a 10mm Hunter I plan to shoot in Limited I may or may not swap the barrel out for a .40 one, but I plan to ligeten the slide, cut back the frame and make the ultimate 6" Tanfo blaster
  10. Big Matt shared his trigger pull weights every step of the way: http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=62478.msg414029#
  11. That's a great link Matt! I'll post it in the tuning thread.
  12. Thanks for saving me the trouble
  13. I think I'll come up with a list of budget mod recommendations and post it in the tuning thread.
  14. If you're not obsessed with the best trigger possible you can simply change the springs and get dramatic gains in a few minutes.
  15. My CZ tuning thread was about showing that with under $200 in parts from CGW and a little work an SP01 can perform better than a factory SP01 Shadow and very nearly as good as a the best professionally tuned Shadow. I have found plenty of Shadow owners willing to trade their extended controls for those on the SP01, so that's a no cost mod and the rest is relatively cheap.
  16. A Stock III .40 would make an awesome Limited gun; the sight radius is the same as the Limited, the dust cover is heavier and the DA trigger is a non issue because the SA trigger in the Limited sucks out of the box so you're going to overhaul the trigger either way.
  17. I hate it when manufacturers put serial numbers on the barrel/slide; I have a few with three different serial numbers
  18. I don't know why you would, but I guess you could...
  19. I just received an email from John Amidon (the final USPSA rules authority) on this issue: So there you have it.
  20. These are 170mm with an extended basepad How many rounds are you getting with a Henning/Grams follower?
