  1. I started shooting Open with a 9, but recently had a chance to pick up a complete 38 package with dies, brass and all, so I'm anxious to try. My theory is not that the brass changes the feel, but that you can get away with more barrel holes with slower powder. I shoot 9 with a case full of SP2 (similar to 3N38) and a 115gr bullet, I don't think that load will make major in my new 38 (Bedell super shorty with three holes). I'm even going to try a 38 case full of SP3, which seems to take ~30% more powder to get the same velocity... What are you loading Foxbat?
  2. I've never heard anything good about 800X, apparently the flakes are huge right?
  3. Going to try this one out Monday: I made some mods to the comp:
  4. Where can you get an SP01 Shadow for $1000?!?
  5. I have to imagine someone here has already done this, so hopefully you can share your experience and save me some guess work: same bullet, same powder, same gun, same PF, how much more powder for super and what OALs? I'm thinking 1.170" vs 1.250", will be ~4% more powder.
  6. Thats a pretty small comp, so it may never be impessively flat, but if you want to get the most out of it and don't need to make major I would use the 115s, and AA#7. Load 7gr, seat the bullet as long as you can and work up from there; it should keep getting flatter until the case is spilling over
  7. Has anyone ever tried SP-3 in 38 super? According to my estimates it would take something like 12-13gr of powder to make major with a 115gr bullet, but if it's anything like SP-2 it should easily fit in the case. Seems like a 9mm case full would be awesome for a minor load Anyone?
  8. Honestly I think the additional awesomeness is pretty small, but there is also the investment aspect: a Shadow will hold it's resale value better than a tricked out SP01 if you ever decide to switch back to Glock :roflol:
  9. That depends how much difference $500-$1,000 makes in your budget.
  10. Parallax, I'd like to address your points one at a time: 1. I agree a 9mm case in 38 super chamber is held in place by the extractor, but are you arguing that 38 super case in a 38 super chamber is not? If so I suggest you measure some 38 super cases, compare them to 38 super chambers and reconsider your position. 2. True, the SAAMI specifications for a 9mm case are 0.004" smaller in diameter at the neck and 0.007" larger at the base, but considering I use the same bullets and crimping die in both, reality may prove differently. If you're interested I'll be happy to measure some of my loaded rounds and get back to you. 3. I'd hate to be so presumptuous as to say most USPSA hand loaders load beyond SAAMI specifications for pressure, but I know I do. Not just for 9 major and 38 super major either, but I imagine if I were to use QuickLoad to estimate chamber pressures I would find my 40 major loads using Clays to be even further outside SAAMI specifications than my 9 major loads using SP2.
  11. I agree with Bamboo, we're all out here to have fun and if you're not in love with shooting your Glock, shoot something else. You don't have to feel like you're betraying the Brotherhood of Glock Shooters, it's just a gun. In fact, I'm picking up my first 38 super 2011 Open gun today Naturally I'm curious about the most popular platform and (arguably) the most popular caliber so when I had the chance to try both at the same time I jumped on it The best part about buying used is that you can reasonably expect to sell used with little risk, so you can buy it, try it, if you don't fall in love, sell it off to the next curious shooter The trouble is if you're quick to fall in love, you end up with dozens of high end competition pistols
  12. I just slide my Open gun, racker, 90 degree mount and all in the side pouch of my range bag.
  13. There's nothing that will ruin your whole day like struggling with dirty mags that won't run or not knowing why you can't hit a popper at 30 yards.
  14. One in the classifieds here and one on GB.
  15. I'm in CA as well and I recently bought two used 2011s, if you're patient I think it's a much better value than frames.
  16. My club does a fun steel match indoors and the steel just hangs from cherry picker like stands, shrapnel isn't too bad...
  17. SPP or SRP? As long as we're speculating do you think it's possible gasses escaping the primer pocket caused your breech face erosion? (not that 100K life is not impressive)
  18. Try 3.5gr of Clays and you'll used the rest to fertilize your lawn
