  1. Berry's Bullets make a great 180 and 200 grain .40 plated bullet, you can't beat them for the price.
  2. Longshot is great for hunting loads, but you don't need velocities like those for USPSA. Bullseye is a great powder because it is so "middle of the road" its not to fast and not too slow. I got a keg of it not long ago because I couldn't find my favorites, its been great to use. For my glock 35 I like to stay around a 1.140 OAL.

What is the point of this post?
  4. 12.5 lbs for major loads and 11 lbs for 3GN/ Steel minor loads.
  5. I will probably look into getting a small/fast safe in my bedroom. I do have small children so leaving the gun chambered and unattended isn't an option. My wife is a sponsored shooter so I am not too worried about her manipulating the guns. I would disagree about discarding ammo that was chamber more than a few times. I believe there is a limit to the amount you want to reasonable chamber a round, it has obviously been surpassed in this circumstance. But, a few times seems a little over cautious and would likely not fly among departments. We are required to account for every round and cannot just stop using/ discard them. I will contact Federal Ammunition to get their official recommendations.
  6. That is good information everyone. It is consistent with what I thought. I usually down load my gun every night when I get home. My safe isn't near my bedroom and it is very common for me to get called out at night. Having my gun in the safe would easily add 3 or 4 minutes to my ready time, which is a lot in an emergency. I just finished measuring all the round in my mags, the following is the results: 1.120-1.125 = 13 1.110-1.119 = 14 1.100-1.109 = 14 1.090-1.099 = 2 1.082-1.089 = 3
  7. I believe it is from loading and unloading the ammo over several years. I am confident that Federal wouldn't allow their ammo (especially duty) to be that out of spec. I try to down load all of my mags ever couple months and reload them as to not keep chambering the same round. I would agree to get new ammo every year, I will take this info to the brass in the department and see if I can get it rectified. What's your thoughts on safety or over pressure?
  8. My police department uses Federal 180 grain HST ammo for duty carry. We carry the Glock model 22 (.40 s&w). I have carried the same group of rounds for just over 3 years. I noted some of the rounds looked a little short today. I measured the OAL and found them to vary between 1.125 (normal) to 1.088 (WAY TOO SHORT!). Federal stated the velocity to be 1010 fps, making these a pf of 181.8! What is your professional opinion on this? I obviously have some concern.
  9. I agree you need to put this on time to really know the difference. I am willing to bet its all in your head. I am sure a shot timer will verify it. Try and compare using similar guns side by side though, like a Glock 34 and 35. With a similar trigger and power factor I bet you will have an "Ah Ha" moment. I agree with Brian also, there is nothing smoother than a properly "sprung" 2011 shooting .40 minor. I use a STI Eagle shooting 155 grain hollow base Berry's Bullets going about 875 fps.
  10. We won't have any pics until we can get one more gun in the batch. I think polished is the only way to go on a 1911/2011, think of a hard chrome without the shiny... it doesn't make sense. I think you should just jump in head first and we can all get them done!
  11. We are waiting on either Iceman or a 4th gun to go into the batch. We are all ready to send them off but don't want them waiting in queue at Calico. If anyone wants in to be the fourth gun coated speak now or forever (or second batch) hold your peace. The price is $162.50 plus $25 if you need the metal microfinished.
  12. Thanks for the info! I am getting mine ordered right now. One size large it is...
  13. Here is the updated standing of batch #1. I will try and figure batch two as we get interest. PM me and we will figure out details. Iceman, are you wanting to do two guns or just one? Batch #1: Maxximuss STI 2011 Jay's Camerons Custom Waktasz Iceman2733
  14. I don't know anyone that shoots a 1911 in open. To be competitive you need to run a double stack. You will literally being doing 2-3 times the reloads as everyone else running a SS in open.
  15. I don't have a second batch planned yet. Just plan on being ready to send it out the middle of April to Calico. Sometimes it tough to know exactly who is in until the last minute. As it gets closer, stay in contact with me so I can account for who is in.
  16. I spoke with STI today. They are just having me send in my slide, barrel, and broken bushing. They said they will fit a new bushing for me. STI customer service is great and they are awesome to work with.
  17. I tried a bushing from a STI Senty and it wouldn't fit. I assumed they are fitted to the barrel or the bushing from a 1911 won't fit in a 2011.
  18. I swapped out a recoil spring today and put my STI Eagle back together. A very competent shooter and gunsmith was helping me. He racked the slide, the recoil spring and plug shot out the end of my gun into the berm. I looked at the bushing and the bottom part had completely broke off. This gun is less than a year old and less than 1000 rounds through it. Have you heard of this happening before? I have heard STI is pretty good with warranty work and costumer service, do you think they will fix it? Will any bushing work or does it have to be fitted to the gun? This was the worst timing... I was planning on using it this weekend at the March Madness Match in Vegas and the Berry's Steel Open the next weekend in St. George!
  19. Someone asked about more pictures of TiCN. It seems like most companies color is slightly different. This company's color looks closest to Calico Coating, http://www.richterprecision.com/pvd-coatings.html (halfway down on the right). Some companies have more a gray look and others more purple, I am not entirely sure of the reason for this.
  20. David Adams is our point of contact with Calico Coatings. He has been great to work with!
  21. Here is the info on Calico Coatings. http://www.calicocoatings.com/ Tech Line: 704.483.2202 Fax: 704.483.2145 Shipping Address: 5883 Balsom Ridge Road Denver, NC 28037 USPS Mailing Address: P.O. Box 901 Denver, NC 28037
  22. As soon as we get confirmation from STI that the frame and slides can handle the heat we will be moving forward with the TiCN coating. This is going to be a group buy to ensure that it stays affordable for everyone that wants to get a gun or parts coated. We can fit roughly 4 guns (frame, slide, barrel, & small parts) per order/batch. The first batch is full and it sounds like we have enough guns/interest to do a second. Please confirm with me through pm if you are interested and what parts you want included. For this first batch we want to have all the parts being coated to Calico by April 15th, so if you want in please be ready to ship out your items by then. Batch #1: Maxximuss Zmego Jay Coop Batch #2: Waktasz Iceman2733 (2 guns?) Praff *One open spot if Iceman doesn't do 2 guns*
