  1. Not suggesting that you would shoot targets in the back Sky, but the gamers standing on a banana peel on the rules side with 1 foot and on the cheaters side with the other will do it if we give them less than half a chance. If you want to force better CoF construction then allowing back-shot targets is not the way, and disallowing it in the rules won't help either. We'll need a better way to force this than playing with targeting rules. Talking bigger matches (not the no-money local shoots where CoF construction by words is allowed "You may not...., even though you see it....etc) vision barricades etc should not be a problem.... BTW: Thanx for the CoF above....just what I need to fill our first 2005 shoot....
  2. Sky, 1 Q: Why would you want to shoot a target in the back? Forgetting bad CoF design and construction, the only way you can shoot a target in the back without DQ is on a twister, dropper, flipper, etc which means that most of these now don't serve any purpose anymore. "Damn, I missed the drop-twister, but don't worry, I'll shoot it in the back from that window over there...." Nail a clam target/PT array in the back. Since targets are impenetrable I'm not gonna get the PT (if its standing at ±5deg)... It might not be too clear in the rules, but like our rules master once said "We don't want to carry the rule book in a wheelbarrow". ----------- And on the "practical" side...you must be very rich and have the best lawyer (thats why you need to be rich) to get off from shooting someone in the back....have him turn around first and nail him twice....
  3. I've got a 20' FAL with I use quite a lot. It's the second one I wanna cut down to 16'. Lets say I loose ±500fps. That still leaves the gun in major and targets out to 150-200m should not be a problem. It will however be (I hope) a great improvement for the shorter range stuff and will be a lot handier when following up poachers.....
  4. To shoot targets in the back and argue that they should/should not score is just as stupid as shooting PT's in the back and saying they should/should not score. This is supposed to be common sense and to be a non-question. If we ever sink to allowing lunacy like back-shots I think I'll find a new game to play.
  5. Given...and some "cap-n-ball" shooters will then give many "bottom feeders" a hard time....
  6. Just remember that according to the rules (for Std rev) you are not allowed to fire more than 6 rounds before reloading (Appendix D5, note 16). So 9, 10, 11 rounds are no real help.
  7. Just one Q: Was your finger outside the trigger guard while holstering? If yes, not such a dumbass, if yes,.................
  8. Why, do you gamble and lose? Great one.....
  9. I agree with most of what has been said. In South Africa they have a system where, under correction, 35 or 40% of the entrance fees for a, in their case, Nationals gets returned to the shooter in the form of medals, trophies and awards. We here in Namibia also only give trophies to the winners in divisions and some other stuff and medals to the first three in classification and some other stuff. Yes, we don't have money to award and have zero sponsors, but I doubt that we would have a big prize tables if that were different. Prizes, etc would remain more a of a token, recognition or acknowledgement of performance than a "lottery" sized prize. As it is now, the floating trophies and other award act as a big incentives to work toward "your name on that trophy with shooter x, y and z". And the new guys work extremely hard for the "Best Improvement" Trophy (yes, we are small enough to do stuff like that...). Bottom line, AWARD anything you want to the person who EARNED it, but don't turn the award into a goal. Keep it rather as recognition of the goals achieved. My N$0.02 (divide by ±6 for the US equivalent and by ±8.5 for the Euro equivalent)
  10. Damn, Patrick is not sending food...... I'll most definitely try the mag release lever - nice idea.....
  11. And I, on this side of the world, can lay my hands on that article how??? (Let see if this works )
  12. PacMan, do you have a photo of your gun you could post here or mail to me?
  13. Except for shortening the gas system, thats what I wanna build....
  14. Yep. The recoil spring for the folding stock I've got sits top-side in the dustcover and hooks onto the "mouse".
  15. Late reaction: Can one anodise (or similar) the upper and lower of a FAL? I'm guessing that international travel might be easier with a "coloured" gun instead of military black/brown/green/drab/etc....
  16. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't remove the "butt naked" WSB I think this will make many happy and some sad, but will kill all doubt and discussion (if accepted by the rules comitee....)
  17. After many searches around the 'net and chats to some 'smiths I still have no clear answers. I am considering modifying a FN FAL to be more suitable for IPSC Rifle/3-gun matches. I am thinking of shortening the barrel and fitting an IPSC standard legal comp (26x90mm) and fitting a para folding stock. Then just some cosmetic stuff. Sounds straight forward, but I'm told the gun might not cycle due to the short barrel. Has anyone got info on this, tried it, done, succeeded, failed, etc? What mods must be made to the gas port, etc? Thanks for the help...
  18. It's not strong enough for me, so I'll skip this round. Thanx My comment from the sideline though - as RO I have often told shooters to assume the posi I have demonstrated during the briefing, even when that posi is anywhere inside a 15m² area with hands relaxed at side. If it looks like your arm will not swing in a breeze I will ask you to please assume the stated posi....
  19. That is what I think is meant in the rules.... Please adopt the "bus-waiting-stance"....
  20. Sorry for reviving this old thread..... I just ordered my first SG and was wondering if I'm gonna get "Diesel and Dust", "Methanol and Sparks" or "Citrus and Lavender" ????
