  1. Make die? Dillon? Or am I anitquated in assuming that the question belies I have outdated dies? How do I find out? (bought the Dillon in.......early 90's) But not the 80's cause the music sucked except the Motels...mmmm Martha and SRV.
  2. Yes, on the RL550 I seat and crimp separately. The bullet is deformed as well. But still shows a .418 crimp as per Benny's specs, so perhaps Iam going past that point?? 165grn. JHP Montana GOld
  3. Is that bottle of spray underneath the sink installed in that big brown bag? How would you find your lost children, let alone a can of spray in that monstro bag??
  4. Hi, When crimping with the RL550B, on the return or removing the bullet from the crimp die there is an audible <crack!>. I alleviated this problem with some initial cleaning with ISO alcohol, but the sound quickly returns along with some fair resistence. I have now added some lube to the crimp die, and this has helped alot. Any ideas why the crack sound? Alignment? Lube? too much crimp? New Brass? Thanks, A (yes i searched)
  5. Hi, Iam crimping .40 to .418 (at least I hope so) and am placing the calipers right at the end of the case. Is this the proper placement, whereby to go any further you quickly drop off the lip of the case? Additionally, when removing some bullets with the ol'puller, does all crimping of the case tend to crimp a "line" into the bullet, or is this too much crimp where it creates a noticeable divot line? Thanks, A
  6. This is a good question. Our new indoor range boasts a state of the art ventilation system and has a ban on any non-jacketed loads (except .22). Since I shoot there about 4x a week I will ask them about any causal effects or risks for elevated lead exposure with persistent visitations. No wonder EricW shies away from the indoor invite freebie....Or its my uncontrolled flatulence.
  7. Guns are getting spendier to replace. I learned the hard way selling mine off. I used a colt commander for IPSC/carry with factory loads as a newb until I figured out I sucked being L-10 and getting thrown in with the Hi-cap Limiteds at our club. Then I bought a Benny gun and blew it up now I have zip while waiting for the replacement. I will remedy this with a backup STI 5" or go for an open gun of Benny's. I dont know if it was a head game, but I used to place in the bottom 3rd at our matches and last match I was 9th overall being unclassified with Benny's gun.

  10. This is too funny! As a fish and wildlife biologist I HATE CATS!!!! My reason? Simple. They are very hard on endemic species of wildlife not to mention neotropical migrants. I lived up in the mountains, and for some reason my home on 5 acres was the frickin' cat center of the world. I had house cats pissin' on my log home, crappin' in my garden, killin my mtn. quail, grossbeaks , finches.....ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!! ALot of these cats had gone feral. I caught for a period of one week, 9 cats!. Tuna didnt work, salmon didnt work, friskies didnt work. The only thing that worked for me was cheap Albertsons brand cat food in a can. It helped that a feral cat stunk up the trap first trying to pee on me as it drew others in. Place it lengthwise or parallel to a wall and leaning some plyboard over it so the plyboard is resting on the wall gets em all curious and comfortable. Get a quality trap and not a havahart brand. Go to http://www.livetrap.com and get a nice Tomahawk Trap. If you still have problems catching them, borrow the neighbors cat and let it sit in your trap for awhile to smell it up. Oh, Hobbes is cool though.....
  11. I would give Benny Hill a call, or go to www.triangleshootingsports.com for his contact information. He is a great guy and has helped alot of people out and might have a quick fix for you that might alleviate you sending your gun back. I bought a fat free from him with the similar problem (although not exact) as I had a feed problem where the slide would not return fully due to ammo stickage. Turns out I was lame in the way I reloaded (I subsequently blew up that gun, but thats a different story) where I was not crimping the bullet to his specs. I changed the crimp in .40 to a .418 and it ran flawlessly. My OAL was 1.17 in a STI frame, caspian skeletonized slide, Schueman 6" barrel and tuned mags.
  12. Does it get past P.O.S.T.?? Well at least for XP, if you get to P.O.S.T. and it hangs with a blank screen without rebooting it can be alot of things, usually a vid card problem. Now with 98SE, take your pick: corrupted MBR, failing HDD, yada yada yada. If your in windoze or prior to in XP and it reboots on its own, it can be a memory issue. With 98SE, I would just reload the sucker. How about keeping your case and other periphs like your optical drives and get a good solid Asus board for around $100, a Western Digital 100GB drive or thereabouts for another $60-80, A copy of XP Pro for $140, and some dual channel PC3200 DDR @ 2x512mb, an athlon 64 socket 939 and an OCZ 520W powerstream with SATA connectors for another $100. Tada!! new sys, ugly case ...who cares. On components alone for all top of the line stuff (without dual CPU's and no RAID) you can get close to $5k. But I like them juicy Lian Li cases in the V1000b mod baby YEAAAAH! and some leds's to shake an bake it, ooooh and the quiet foam lining with some mondo 120mm import and exhaust fans to replace the stock 80mm, keeps it flowin' and pullin and oh so cool......Stop........me.........Sig L........A.......D.........y.......IM........going.........over .........the..........hard.........ware...........edge..................
  13. Once it blinks out, does it reboot or just hang with a black screen? Personally you could build one for cheap with XP Pro and I would stay away from Linux and firefox et al. if your not that geeky. In the old days , well not that old, fresh install over 98 were common, because troubleshooting that OS was a pain, and most semi-dorks like me would end up throwing the computer through a window....
  14. So do all terrains do any one thing well or just everything so,so? What would be a good all around tire for snow (we get alot, and ice) and I live in the mtns. Perhaps siping the all terrains? My Toyos seem to work, but not the greatest.
  15. Thats Great!! I should have gave you a note for my box of 266A chipset RAID Mobos and assorted PS, AMD XP's, Sound Cards, Geforce cards and Crucial Ram that I just gave away. I could have given it to a just cause!! Any thing in your list for soft menu, or........um, Firmware? p.s. if only to get you into a mobo that no longer uses dipswitch jumpers. Take Care, Sandoz
  16. I thought you wanted a recommendation, but as I started to read your post it was accolades for product/vendor.........until I noticed your using an apple...hehe.
  17. The hardware is not exactly proprietary...it is knock off junk that is built by 3rd string companies and sold to HP, Dell, Micron etc at about $20 a board (stack em deep sell em cheap). You would be hard pressed to find the mobo manufacturer or any component label in a production machine, let alone revision numbers. It is proprietary in the sense that the "Branding" is CMOS or BIOS deep. That is to say, that the BIOS comes locked, with very few functional aspects to it. This keeps the average user from screwin up a machine and costing the parent co. alot of money. For us this sux as BIOS updates can be a chore if not impossible and about the only thing you can do is change your boot sequence. For BIOS' that are truly locked which HP is notorious for, there are programs that can Bypass this dysfunctional state. I dont use them as I will not work on production machines, but hear from other geeks that its a good tool. Just have someone build you a computer, but do your homework. I wait for subsequent revisions to mobos and review all the forums related to specific manufacturers ...looking for whiners i.e. "cant get past P.O.S.T. 3 beep code" (ram incompatibility issue) or "system fails to recognize cpu speed" etc. etc. or I look for general peripheral hardware conflcits. It is not enough to read reviews/benchmarks on technical websites, as most tend a bias to manufacters that support them. Abit mobos have degraded in quality quite a bit as has MSI with Asus leading the way with the Socket 939. FYI. True proprietary hardware is made by the computer manufactuer like Dell did on some of their GeForce vid-cards...but they still used the nvidia chipset made by another company using the reference design. But the substrate goo was theirs...hehe. 18. I learned as a noob if an RTO doesnt like you, your score suffers. Oh, and to be politically consumate with the other posts how about, "Gee I like smurfs, but didnt used to because they are blue and stuff but now I do because I can tolerate them with my mind like really open."
  19. Thanks Everyone, I just ordered a 6" fat free in .40 from Benny, and what put me over the top was that the man is one of the nicest people you could every talk to, and takes the time to explain what, why and how he does it. It has been a real positive experience from the start and look forward to not only his gun to get here, but to meet the man himself. Thanks for all your input, I truly appreciate it. Anders
  20. Remember yall, you can crank up the vid card and add RAM etc. but the soul of your machine is the motherboard and no amount of top ending it will enhance your experience long-term. Your north and south bridges have to be able to realize or handle the demands of your video card, and only so much can be realized with a weak mainboard. Regards, Sandoz Labworks Custom Computers
