Looks for Match

Looks for Match (2/11)

  1. I think you should always bring a backup gun for matches if you have one of any kind. Doesn't have to be a duplicate of the main race gun or even close, just something match-legal is better than nothing at all. Matches cost time (money) and actual money, and just because you brought it doesn't mean you have to use it. You can still ragequit and go home angry if you want, but it doesn't cost extra to have a functional spare waiting in the car and gives you the option to stick around and finish the course of fire. And if you shoot with buddies, you're helping keep them in the game too. (because buddies always have more unreliable gear than you) For my first USPSA match, my main gun was an Open Div G34, and the backup option was a carry compact M&P. For my first PRS match, my main gun was an AICS mag chassis 700 and my best scope while the backup was a plain hunting 700 with a much smaller scope. Didn't need to switch but could have finished the match with less-than-ideal gear if I needed to.
  2. "I've running into clients who build out custom rifle kits. This client we ran In to at the range shooting next to use. Great custom camo wrap applied to this rifle after Cerakote" If the geniuses over there didn't graduate grammuh shcool, why do you think they would have any aptitude at all for precision machining or basic engineering concepts? Trick question, anyone and his cousin from Mexico can cut some funny shaped holes into a piece of metal and slap together a box of AR parts, doesn't mean they know anything about how to get them to work. Their prices aren't so low that they're undercutting the rest of the entry level off-brand market, they can't intelligently respond to basic English questions on their social media and they're targeting the budget-end of the "kuztom" market.
  3. Sure I'd like to see it, I like to see a lot of things that I laugh at. The correct question is 'would someone pay for it'. The industry-wide answer is an 'of course not'.
  4. On a serious twist, I was shooting at a really nice range outside St. Louis and their bathroom (a real bathroom at the range house) had a special heavy-metal specific hand soap. I don't have a habit of licking the gunpowder and lead off my fingers but considering the range fee didn't strike me as high, it was a nice touch.
  5. You may also want to look into that hunting permit exception a bit more, especially on if the guns have to be applicable to the permit. I would venture a guess that if you get a shotgun hunting permit for deer season but your car has handguns with carry holsters, you may not be able to use the permit to legally defend your possession.
  6. What small company would invest into an FN pistol platform? In two years the FN_9 will come out and they'll flop another onto the market and dilute their customer base even thinner. Let's see; the FNP, FNX, FNS... I think the next letter will be G. The FNG-9. Someone mentioned a SCAR, what's that? Seriously though, there have to be less than 50 people in the entire county who would pay good money for a quality trigger on an FN_, plus the investing the money for sights/holsters/mags to have a competitive setup. When there's no aftermarket, it's often because there's no actual market. They've given up on the tactical FNAR, no one cares about a SCAR16; FN looked around and started cranking out AR15s with FN stamped on the side. There's no reason for a small company to gamble on FN platforms when there are others with much better looking longevity and larger civilian customer bases to make money off of.
  7. In the Open/Unlimited/Freestyle divisions of several sport/games there is an expectation that that's where someone who wants an edge is going to redesign something to improve upon it. When we say things like Open division requires _ caliber, _ bullet weight, cannot have mags bigger than _, we prevent people from designed more competitive versions that would be superior and improve the industry's state of technology. I think any equipment based sport/game that has a Open/Unlimited/Freestyle division shouldn't have any non-safety related restrictions, otherwise it's not actually Open. People who want to avoid "equipment races" should stick to standardized playing fields, the whole point of Open-type competitions is to be the equipment race for the rest of the divisions. Let the weird exotic calibers/magazine designs/bullet styles/etc play. If it's safe, it should be allowed in Open.
  8. Barrel dwell time? Ha, that's a new one. I'll have to add that to the list of "Best BS heard in a gunstore/on the internet"...
  9. Actually significant changes in design would require Open Div to actually be open and unlimited. Using arbitrary restrictions for the sake of keeping cheap people competitive is what strangles good innovation. I agree that the optic is the obvious focus for the industry right now, but the market is saturated. There are more than enough brands of red dots for the field of people actually buying them.
  10. I'm still amazed that the practical A5 is even a thing. If I heard 12-18 months ago that people were going to A5's for competitive shooting I would have thought that they made the vintage cutoff for cowboy action or something. I might have one of these salt rusting in a locker somewhere...
  11. Why are you determined to run an off-brand gun, do you live in South America or something? The automotive equivalent to this is: What's the best car made today between these choices: The Geely GE, SsangYong Chairman, Mitsubishi Mirage or the Wheego LiFe? Other suggestions aside from Ford, GM and Toyota are welcome, but I can't think of anyone that makes a comparable sedan. If you're not sure what you want but you're considering the weirdest guns that no one likes for no stated reason and refuse to consider what the entire industry is built around, then how are we going to decide for you? Have you considered the Taurus ____?
  12. Pick up a mag like Shotgun News, you'll see 12 different flavors, rails are old news on 1911s and definitely aren't reserved for expensive ones.
  13. No, the only sight with the same mounting is the Insight MRDS, but with different screws and external dimensions. The Doctor sight is similar, but if you milled the bare minimum exactly for a FF2 then the overall size might be a concern, like with the FF3. Some companies offer adapter plates to use different brand sights/mounts, so you might be able to use one of those.
  14. Not worth jumping at, at all. Unless you think you really need a G34 right meow and cant find any in your hometown. There are plenty of other better deals, this is not a good find out of town find to go out of your way for.
