  1. Sheez, Dean.....you're actually voluntarily entering this discussion?? I was going to congratulate you on your performance at the SSC, but figured I would spare you the hassle from these guys. (I'll tell ya, this Waltermitty character has been getting awfully lippy recently. Apparently he needs another reminder of who's boss.) Hey, good luck out in CO! Tell everybody Sam and I said hello!
  2. Can anybody direct me to posted results from the XD Challenge side match?? Thanks!
  3. Waltermitty should have some fun with this one.....(sigh).....
  4. I was one who specifically purchased a Springfield Loaded in order to shoot last year's SSC and be eligible for the special contingency prizes. (It turned out to be an excellent gun, by the way!) As soon as I got to last year's match and saw how much effort, time, and money the folks at Springfield Armory had put into this match since taking it over, any momentary thought of resentment went out the window. You can't name another company who has done more to support the competitive shooting sports over the past 20 years than Springfield Armory.
  5. Ron, thanks for your excellent posts. I agree with you that in today's world, trying to win a gun is an economically losing proposition. 15-20 years ago, that was not necessarily the case. Back "in the day," a good shooter who was selective about the matches stood a chance of coming out ahead. For several years in the height of my bowling pin shooting career, I was able to pull this off. On some levels, it was nice to be able to "support my habit" this way, and I do think it contributed to developing the right competitive mindset and ability to perform under pressure. But in the big picture, I like it better now when winning something is a nice bonus, but the real prize is the shooting experience itself. Call me a reformed mercenary!
  6. I've had three break on me in the last two years. I no longer trust them.
  7. xuxupecheur: Great to have you aboard the USPSA Revo train! I've shot a number of different disciplines over the years, and I'll tell ya, I have never found any of them quite as challenging and engaging as USPSA/IPSC with a wheelgun! You're going to enjoy it.
  8. Thanks for the nice comments from all you fine folks here on the Revo forum. (And as for the rest of you rotten bastards.....) I really like the new Single Stack division concept, and I enjoy shooting the SSC with basic stuff: a pretty much stock (only slightly dremelized) ugly-cool green Springfield Loaded, Woof ammo (that stuff works great, and I can pick up the empties with one of those big roofing nail magnets!), and Uncle Mike's "leather." I had a few rough stages, but was pretty pleased with my overall performance, particularly since I'm still pretty new at this ipsick stuff. Those of you who travel to Iowa this October to shoot the Iowa Revolver-Only Championship can also bring your 1911s and shoot the Iowa Single Stack match as well!! Old school, baby!! Retro-cool!!
  9. WM, The funniest thing I've read lately! This is the kind of abuse usually saved for Hoppy or Master Cliff Dave I'm just glad Walt didn't use the term "bottom-stuffer." Not that there's anything wrong with that....
  10. Apples and oranges......L-10 doesn't offer two additional rounds per mag to offset the minor scoring disadvantage, but Single-Stack sure does! It puts the two options much closer to parity, which makes it quite interesting! As I've said before, which option is best (10+1 minor or 8+1 major) will depend wholly on the individual match. I can think of one major match last year that happened to be heavy on stages with round counts of 9, 18, and 19. If I can eliminate several standing reloads across an 8- or 10-stage match, I'll gladly shoot minor.
  11. If you run a search on this forum, there will be several threads relating to this topic as it relates to the provisional single-stack division. I shot a lot of major USPSA matches last year, and so I went through all my old match booklets to see how many stages would have created a probable advantage for the 10+1 pistol (even with minor scoring) over the 8+1 pistol. My conclusion was that about 30-40 percent of the time I would have chosen to shoot my .38 Super over one of my .45s if I had been shooting single-stack division.
  12. I agree with RickB on this. The latest de rigeur method of operating the slide seems to be the "hand-over" technique with half the hand sticking out past the front sight. I'm seeing many otherwise highly proficient shooters doing this.....and of course whatever the good shooters do will be imitated by many others. The safest and smartest method is to simply slingshot the slide, pinching the rear serrations between the thumb and index finger of the weak hand.
  13. I paid $450 each for my 625s, one a couple years ago, one a couple months ago....both in minty shape when they came to me. I'd say anything under $500 is probably OK.
  14. Doug's always an asset to a squad, I'm happy to have him on board. (Hopefully he won't slow us down with a bunch of magazine brushing and other finicky bottomfeeder stuff!) He's also a very good revolver shooter. If Doug decides to step up and shoot a round gun, he'll give us all a good run for it!
  15. We wheelgunners sure are a photogenic bunch of folks.......!
  16. I'll wholeheartedly agree. Very classy move.
  17. Waltermitty!!! Nice job, hoss!
  18. A few "must be present to win" door prizes to keep people hanging around to watch the awards and clap for the winners might be a good idea, but I think the vast majority of the prizes and recognition should be awarded based on performance. I'm not a believer in the "class system" but will agree this whole topic had been beaten to death already here and elsewhere. And yeah, it's just another example of our sport bowing to our society's acceptance of mediocrity and willingness to adopt a pseudo-socialistic mindset. But as an old pin-shooter, I'm a mercenary from way back!
  19. Yes, folks, in fact Larry did say exactly that. And I think he's actually still thinking about shooting the wheel at the Summer Blast now that he knows it's going to be an historic event--quite possibly the largest contingent of USPSA revolver division shooters in the history of the sport! Right Larry??
  20. Linda, I would be honored, just say the word! Thanks to everybody who stepped up and signed up. I bumped into Larry H. this past weekend at the WI Sectional and we agreed this year's Summer Blast is going to be a hell of match!
  21. I shot Sunday. The weather was great, the facility and stages were excellent, the ROs were some of the best, match staff were friendly and efficient, I was squadded with a great crew, saw lots of old friends and met a few new folks for the first time, and they had the best beverage sponsor I've seen at a match by far! It doesn't get much better than that! Hats off to Ronnie and company. I can tell already that Area 5 is going to be really, really good this year.
  22. If it doesn't seem as reliable in SA mode, I'd be looking for off-center primer hits indicating a possible failure to carry up (timing) problem.
  23. If you follow the nightly news, you'll see that our troops overseas appear to be a bunch of "gamers" too!
