  1. For those who've been following this thread, I'll explain that DougC is an excellent wheelgunner, but a couple weeks before the match he suffered a crushing fracture to the ring finger on his right (dominant) hand. Rather than bail out on us, he taught himself how to do a weak-hand reload, and shot the whole match left-handed, drawing from his regular holster and transferring the gun over before engaging targets. It was a very, very impressive display of perseverence. It was great to shoot with so many wheelgunners, I didn't catch the final number but I think there were 18 revolvers on board for this match. That's awesome, considering we struggled to hit 5 wheels last year. All 5 of us from last year were back, along with a whole bunch of heavy hitters from literally all across the US. I was also particularly impressed by the performances of Stephanie Luttrell (whom I believe is easily the best female revolver shooter in the game), and good ol' Bubber (the fastest speedloader guy alive). Kudos to Dave Williams, for initiating the effort to round up the roundgunners, and to KS SC Jerry Nelson, who made a point to give us special recognition at the shooter's meeting and at the awards presentations--we appreciate it, guys! Great people--great match! Already looking forward to next year!
  2. From the club: Hotels: http://www.osceolachamber.com/hotels.html Also there is a Motel called the Blue Haven, and another called The Evergreen, do a search on the web for these in Osceola, Ia.. They are not five star but they are cheap. Bring food because we are not breaking for lunch. Once you see the range you will understand. We will provide bottled water. Directions: I-35 south of Des Moines/North of Leon Iowa Exit 33 East on Hwy 34 for 1.5 miles to Ridge Road. Ridge Road is right beside a bank with an enormous totem pole in front. Follow Ridge road till it turns to gravel, you will cross a small bridge travel 200yard then turn left into what may look like a brush pile. Follow the signs. Friday shooters begin at Noon..... Saturday and Sunday shooters be at the range by 7am ........... Bring whatever you need for comfort on the range .. Our range is small and we pack our stages on the range tightly. We will use Squad pairing again this year. {One squad runs the other and vice versa}
  3. You too Bwana! Nice to know there's a bunch of wheels in action this weekend, even if we are split in two different venues.
  4. Good point. I have changed my mind. And my BEnosverse signature.
  5. It's not too late, Keith. They'll sign you up "day of." Be at my house at 9:00 AM.
  6. Yummie.............That pie wont taste half as good as the "Sh*t sandwich" I'll be hand feeding you all day Sat......... Let the games begin.................. That's right. You guys just keep riiiiiiiiiiiight on squabbling. Baloney sandwiches at pool side Ken........................?????? I'm in buddy Baloney from Waltermitty. Talk about appropriate.
  7. Honestly? Why bother. A stock 625 with a decent action is all anybody needs. The rest of the gimmicks and mods might be fun, but they are certainly not necessary.
  8. I'd shoot both guns as is, and if and when I started having persistent cylinder skipping problems on one of them, I'd use that gun as the host for the Ti cylinder.
  9. Keith's one of those guys who can shoot well with any handgun. When you're rock solid with a Glock, a single-stack 1911 and a S&W revolver, you've got the board pretty well covered. Great job, Keith! There aren't that many Ms in this game, it's a real accomplishment.
  10. No, it should be the exact opposite. A lighter hammer (whether Randy's or homemade) should allow reliable ignition with less mainspring tension than you could ever get away with using a stock hammer. Actually, being able to lighten up the spring is the primary point of the whole lightening effort, although there are other side benefits such as reduced "jiggle" when the hammer falls, and the cool mod-rod look.
  11. It won't be about luck!!
  12. Excellent!! Steaks and silver bullets all around!! See you guys there around 8.
  13. OK, now I'm curious.....why does the firing pin bushing need replaced?
  14. Sounds like at least three Ms and a couple As will be competing in Kansas! (I don't think I need to point out this makes Topeka the undisputed destination of choice for the REAL revolver shooters that weekend.....)
  15. Nice job, buddy! Can't call you the Danbagger no more!
  16. Ah, yes.....the "other" Jerry M. is now on board! Glad to hear it!
  17. My pin loads were always on the stout side. I shot the 230 "Lincoln Logs" at over 1000 fps. Stock factory 8-3/8" barrel with no ports. Tried guns with ports, even own guns with ports, never could tell the difference in recoil or muzzle flip. I think it takes a true comp and high pressure loads to do anything meaningful. Otherwise, I think porting is mosly placebo.
  18. Perfect. Any other equipment issues are purely in people's minds. (I too would shoot my plain ol' 627 with unmodified factory barrel.)
  19. Uh-oh. This is a long, dark road that you guys really don't want to start down. This is exactly the mentality that harmed IDPA's revolver participation so dramatically, and threatens to have the same impact on USPSA's Production division. I suppose there are always going to be shooters out there who will need to scapegoat their own poor performance by pointing out perceived advantages in other shooters' equipment. But "special" revolver barrels? Please--who cares. I remember so vividly from my pin-shooting days how some of the wheelgunners tried every sort of special custom barrel possible--slabs, comps, ports, underlugs, etc. And yet several of us discovered that plain old stock unmodified factory barrels worked just as well, if not better! I'm not really an ICORE guy (I would be, but we don't have any matches in my area), but I can't really imagine what kind of barrel modifications are making these people all upset. "Sculpting"? Who cares--it's cosmetic, people. Shortening? Lengthening? C'mon. Even ports--does anybody really believe porting would have any impact on 125 p.f. floofer loads? Hell, porting doesn't even work with pin loads for chrissakes. Quit the bickering and just shoot. The same guys are going to win anyway. Make the rules simple to interpret, simple to follow, and don't piss off a bunch of your core contingency by making their guns illegal. Or so it seems to me.
  20. Nice job, guys!.......I was sure sorry Sam and Doug and I couldn't make it out this year, hopefully we can get the Rocky Mountain Regional back on our schedule for '07.
  21. A good action job that is 100% reliable with your carry ammo? No problem. (No charge, boys.)
  22. Another excellent reason why the currently trendy technique of crossing the palm over the top and using the front serrations to run the slide should be strongly discouraged. Using the slingshot method, this shooter's palm would have remained uninjured.
