  1. Frank, eventually it comes back around to "I'm going to Nationals this year."
  2. I have had a few slots open up. If you want to shoot this match, contact me ASAP!
  3. I have had a couple slots open up. If anybody wants to shoot this match, contact me ASAP!
  4. Enjoy that nice red hair now, before Cliff makes you an offer you can't refuse and adds it to his collection.
  5. That's Arkansas you're thinking of, mate. (Of course, even Arkansas is in the northern hemisphere.....)
  6. I spoke with the Dealer (Seller) early this morning and he assured me that it has been test-fired only and comes with the Case and all original items as shipped from the Factory, so I bought it at $999.00 ... I'm kinda surprised no one else bid on it, but I'm happy to NOW be the owner of (3) of these little gems. If you check his GunBroker Feedback he has impeccable credentials ... Well, I'd say the likely reason you got it for that price is that the collectors aren't interested because it's obviously been polished bright, the original grips have been changed out, etc., etc. On the other hand, it should be just fine for a shooter, at a price that is pretty good considering the current market, so I don't think you made a bad deal at all.
  7. OK, thanks. I recognized Pat and the 3 Florida boys, and of course Tim. The rest of the guys I had not seen before, although I knew some of the names. Pretty rough-looking crowd if you ask me. I guess the better-looking revoleros reside west of the Mississippi River.
  8. I don't think Uncle Jeff would have been thrilled with the Bo-Mar sight. Besides, he believed that beavertails are for pussies--if a standard grip safety chopped up your hand, well you just need to toughen up, son. I think it looks like a neat gun, though!
  9. We're planning on 225 rounds for the Friday rimfire steel match, and about 200 rounds each for the Saturday and Sunday USPSA-style combat matches.
  10. Can somebody list the names in order of appearance? I'd like to put faces with names on a few of those characters.
  11. Sadly, this is not true. I'm sorry Sir, I have to disagree with you. It IS a growing sport. New members every month, new products, new matches, new clubs. Maybe it's not growing as fast as you'd like for it to be, but it IS growing. You apparently missed my point, bud. This thread is about professional shooters, and I described what appears to have been the "golden age" of professional shooting that came--and went--a number of years ago. You will certainly will have to agree there is nothing resembling that in the world of competitive handgunning today. Today we have Rob (Springfield/Safariland), Todd (Para), Dave (Glock), and Jerry (S&W) as the only players that have truly managed to eke out a living at this game on an extended, long-term basis. Maybe Max's deal will work out and in a few years he can join that list, but I really think it's too soon to know--and let's face it, SIG doesn't really have products that are much good for what we do in USPSA, so Max could run into those R.O.I. issues there, too.
  12. And that would be the very top end of it. I'll bet you could count on one hand the number of pro shooters who earn anywhere near that range. It looks absolutely awful to me, frankly. I love competition shooting, but I would never want to shoot for a living. And training would be far, far worse.
  13. Sadly, this is not true. There was a time (about 15-20 years ago) when competitive handgunning looked like it might be at the verge of making the jump to the mainstream. There was a real multi-disciplinary circuit of big match events to attend, all of which had real prizes (remember when you could win $25,000 or $50,000 or a Rolex or a Jeep?) for the winners. Springfield/Safariland and Smith & Wesson had big teams of sponsored and semi-sponsored shooters, and other teams were being formed. Beer companies and car manufacturers were interested in signing up for advertising and match sponsorship, not just sponsors from within the shooting industry. Then it all fell apart. What happened? Well, it depends on who you ask.
  14. Yes, if they have any 5" barrels left in stock (they still did the last time I heard), they will install one on your 625.
  15. I've never seen a shortened cylinder by Mark H. or anybody else (mine was done by John Nowlin) that wasn't simply cut off. Of course, when you simply cut off the front end off the cylinder, you lose part of the original internal contour of the chamber as it tapers to the mouth. The first part of the forcing cone effectively disappears. Perhaps this is why Doug never experienced the accuracy improvement he was looking for. And why my short-cylinder Nowlin gun doesn't shoot any better than any other 25-2......
  16. Doug Carden had Pinnacle make him one a couple years ago. Remember?--we called it the "starter pistol on steroids"! Pretty cool looking heater. But when Doug shot the IRC last weekend, he used his plain ol' 627 with a retrofitted blue 6" barrel and full-length cylinder instead. Told me it shoots great at 50 yards with his .38 Short Colt loads, and he's big into intrinsic accuracy. I think the "less bullet jump" theory is pretty much out the window. BTW, the short cylinder concept is a gimmick, but not really a new gimmick. My old Nowlin 25-2 (the coolest revolver of all time) has one, and they tried it on PPC revolvers back in the day.
  17. If you're not cleaning your glasses after every stage, you're not using enough oil. Whoa, Nelly. Mobil 1 is the right lube, but it should be used very sparingly in a quality revolver. And whatever you do, keep it out from under the extractor star.
  18. The old hens will consider messing with a model 10 like this sacrilege. Yeah, all kinds of clucking and cackling over there on that website!
  19. Ricky travels the globe to find competition, doesn't he? Hell, last year he showed up in Nebraska just to beat my ass down!
  20. Yeah, that gun looks suspicious to me. Looks like it's been all flitzed up by some stroker. I haven't heard anything about the new ones becoming available yet. I don't think they're done.
  21. Cool! It's nice to know there's a trusted resource out there for high-end trigger work on M&Ps.
  22. I went minor at the very first major USPSA match I ever shot! So I simply adjusted my load to run about 174 p.f. and have never had a problem making major, anywhere. And I shoot a lot of big matches.
  23. You're probably exactly right about that, Mark! Looks like he shot one hell of a match.
