  1. I agree. I have some, but use them only on rare occasion.
  2. GAT Bullets (Gary Thibodaux) 985.446.0093
  3. Hold on now--he's talking about a Square Deal B. The .38 Special crimp die will not reach down far enough when you're loading .38 Short Colts. So you have to taper crimp--but that's not a problem as long as you crimp them enough. Joe--use a .38 sizing die and a .38 shell plate, and everything else just use the stuff that comes with the 9mm conversion. Trust me on this, I've been running SDBs for over 20 years.
  4. Joe, I do all my reloading on my pair of SDBs. For .38 Short Colt, I simply use the 9mm conversion with a .38 Spl. sizing die at Station 1 and a .38 Spl. shell plate. Makes great ammo.
  5. I thought you couldn't go back to Kansas after your visit to one of the sponsors clubs on Sunday night. We looked closely at that, and I'm pretty sure that court order is unconstitutional.
  6. Seriously, the RO actually castigated the shooter with the bucket? Wow, I saw the RO whip out that big Spyderco knife, but I had no idea he was planning to actually cut anything off the guy. I'm surprised I missed the castigation, I must have been lighting my cigar.
  7. Yeah, it's essentially the same bullet design with the crimp and lube grooves located in different spots.
  8. +1, just try to borrow a bucket from a stage and see what you get. That was a different situation. That shooter was trying to "groove himself in" with the bucket. Totally unethical if you ask me.
  9. Well i'm not completely stupid, I just didn't know if since most moonclips are cheap, if they expected you to "loose" your moonclips. I thought that would be kinda nuts, but thought I would make sure. I thought I'd get a bigger laugh outa that one... Believe it or not, one time I actually had an RO tell us, "It states in the match booklet that this is a lost brass match, so if you revolver shooters would take the brass off your moonclips and put it in one of these buckets, it would be appreciated." We ignored him, and nothing further was said. You know how it goes--most of the ROs work hard and do their best to help everybody enjoy the match. But there are always going to be a few fat-ass loser ROs who care more about their own little personal power trip.
  10. That's actually the R&R version, not the Butte version. I think GAT Bullets still makes the Butte version. We went all the way to 7.8 grains of Blue Dot with the Buttes, loaded in mixed .38 Spl. brass, in our N-frames (with them crimped roughly halfway down the bullet length). From an 8-3/8" barrel, that load will hit 1050 fps. I still have an ammo can full of those loads in the basement (a lifetime supply, considering I only shoot one pin match per year) and they rock bowling pins better than anything else I've ever shot from a handgun. Period. But I would recommend working your way up slowly and watch carefully for pressure signs along the way. The only other powder that I found to work with the "Lincoln Logs" was Unique, but I can't remember any loading data on that powder anymore, since we all pretty much settled on Blue Dot as the powder of choice for this bullet design. I actually own a 4-cavity mold for the original Butte version of this bullet. But it's been a long time since I've cast any up......
  11. Nice find! IIRC, the now-discontinued 337 is the lightest J Frame made. Supposedly the 351PD is 10.4 oz and the 2" 317 is 10.5, but those don't really count since they're rimfires! Anyway, the 337 will be a perfect replacement for the 340SC I traded off awhile back.
  12. Around here, most of them are still red!
  13. Knowing that the great pandemic is about to descend upon us, I bought a whole bunch of shit at the gun show over the weekend. You can't be too careful about these pandemics.
  14. self-edited. my original post came across a little too strong. or not strong enough. I can't decide.
  15. Not sure about anyone else, but I've always considered a J-frame to be a pocket gun. If I feel the need to strap up with a holster and ammo carriers, I'm going to be carrying something more.....shall we say.....substantial.....
  16. That grip is pretty big for pocket carry, though. And this is clearly a pocket gun, not a belt gun.
  17. I tend to switch back and forth, although I have found myself running green F/O more over the last year or so.
  18. I saw some Federal match primers at the Des Moines gun show this past weekend for $60 per thousand. Passed. Another dealer had a ton of Wolf large pistol primers for $35 per thousand. Passed on those as well.
  19. The custom guns are always really nice, and Rich's offering is particularly sweet. But overall, it's a pretty lame-ass prize table considering most of it is donated and these guys will rake in somewhere between $60,000 and $70,000 in entry fees. I hope USPSA gets the lion's share of it, and only a minimum winds up in individual pockets.
  20. Beautiful gun, Rich. For those who are interested, here is how they're handling the prizes this year: Prizes Awarded-Only one pistol can be won per competitor Prizes will be awarded in this order: Overall Top Shooter -- Choice of custom pistol Next Top 5 shooters (shooting a Springfield pistol) -- Choice of custom pistol Top 10 Shooters (If not included in above) -- Receive pistols, milspec or XD. 1st GM shooter-pistol 1st Master shooter-pistol 1st A shooter-pistol 1st B shooter-pistol 1st C shooter-pistol 1st D shooter-pistol Top Female Shooter receives 1911 or XD on table Top Senior Shooter receives 1911 or XD on table
  21. Saw one LCR at the Des Moines fairgrounds gun show today. The rotten-ass gouger had it priced at.....(brace yourself).....$650. Gimme a friggin' break. But I found a pristine pre-lock S&W 337 Airlite (10.7 ounces) and bought it instead--for a whole lot less cash!
