  1. BTW, any other wheelgunners are welcome to sign up, then use the online squadding system and jump on Squad 42 with me.
  2. Shoot Revo, Shawn! It's pretty much a heads-up division anyway, we don't worry too much about the silly classification system.
  3. Last year Ricardo Lopez and Cliff Walsh both showed up to shoot Area 3 with me and Sam, along with Snertley and several other notable names. Ricky even won a prize gun, which helped defray a little of the costs of traveling all the way from Ecuador to Omaha! So how 'bout it? Anybody up for shooting the wheel at the 2009 Area 3? It will be a great warm-up for Nationals!
  4. OK, I was wrong about the 85% prediction, but Jerry still smoked everybody by almost 30 seconds again. As always.
  5. Well, Cliff lost his yoke screw during a stage (must not have had it blue loctited in place) which under the frickin' ICORE scoring system is an absolute match-killer. And Burkholder apparently didn't shoot the match this year, or at least I couldn't find his name in the results. Otherwise, I called Limited in the correct order: Bagakis, Aysen, Austin. Man, I wish I could have made it this year.
  6. In theory it headspaces off the case mouth. In the real world it usually headspaces off the extractor or the moonclip. Tom is exactly correct. Most people don't realize that most 1911 .45 ACP pistols will generally feed and function with .45 GAP ammo. Obviously, the extractor hook is actually what is headspacing the cartridge.
  7. Yeah, I remember that one all too well. I had to go to my "emergency" moonclip to engage the last array clear down at the far right hand corner of the bay! This was another good example of why people need to shit-can those cheesy metal "shoot the moon" holders and get something that will hold the moons in place at a full run but still release them easily into the hand when you need them. The North Mountain product does exactly that--which is why I recommend them so highly, despite never receiving a penny's worth of endorsement money from the grouchy old bastard who makes them.
  8. So can anybody report back on the results of the match?? I'm very interested to know who won Limited! (I need to figure out how hard to kick myself for not being there....)
  9. Ordinarily, handgun brass does not ever need to be trimmed. Unlike rifle brass, handgun brass does not lengthen from being fired, it will actually become slightly shorter from repeated reloading and firing.
  10. I run a 4-post North Mountain holder in front, plus an additional single-post NM holder behind the gun for LAMR and "emergencies."
  11. I'll add my +1 to the Uncle Mike's recommendation. We're talking about the hard-molded kydex version, by the way, not the floppy nylon stuff. I have used the Uncle Mike's pouches and 1911 belt holster for years, including 4 Single Stack Classics, and they have served very well.
  12. Bingo. I'll betcha that'll take care of it.
  13. The Revolver is the weapon of the Jedi knight. Not as clumsy or random as an Open blaster, it's an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.
  14. Anything subliminal in this post??? If I included anything subliminal, I assure you it was purely intentional.
  15. Let's just hope he doesn't take too many of us with him. We need plenty of personnel to support the "El Conquistador Classic" memorial match.
  16. Bigsexdog, Apparently ol' Otis is craftier than he looks.
  17. Fragged-out buffers are a very common source of malfunctions at our local club matches. Doesn't matter how many times you warn people, they still insist on using them, apparently convinced that without a piece of plastic in there a 1911's frame will break or get "worn out." It's a pretty incredible marketing story, though.
  18. I just carry them to the line in a small tupperware container, that way after each run I can empty the contents of the cylinder into the tupperware. Then later on I can sort out the live rounds from the empty brass.
  19. ICORE.org had a PDF with last year's IRC with standards removed. The jist was, the top shooters did not change much at all, neither did the really bad ones. lots of the middle crowd swapped spots, but the good shooters are good shooters- it's just another stage for them. Well, that's a matter of interpretation. I was sent a copy of that, and I thought the standards made a meaningful difference. It probably depends on where you are in the mix.
  20. Model19, welcome to the world of USPSA Revolver Division! Over the last 22 years of competitive shooting, I've pretty much done it all, and I have never found any shooting discipline more captivating and challenging.
  21. You ain't wrong, Jack. It's all in his head.
