  1. Ipsc divisions fixes it, just saying open standard/limited production (15rd minor) classic (10 minor, 8 major) revo (8 minor, 6 major) production optics (CO) PCC
  2. I’d have to say the reload for a double stack without a magwell is definitely an advantage over a single stack with a magwell (IPSC legal magwell, Dawson ice is a slightly different story). My percentages on classifiers for production, especially when there is a mandatory reload, are generally better than my single stack minor runs. Anecdotal and subjective to the individual shooter but shooting a close to 50oz minor gun with a single trigger pull disadvantage and a larger opening/easier reload is definitely an advantage overall. If we go the L10 minor and L8 major route, you’ll probably see a large majority of the combined 3 divisions going with a 2011 or some CZ/tanfo variant due to weight and trigger being so much better for general gun handling. 1911’s would be an extreme minority simply for the reload disadvantage and due to their limitation in shooting other divisions/sports. I’m all for it, can’t beleive we didn’t start doing it years ago! 2011 L8 here I come!
  3. Wouldn’t a 2011 without a magwell just be a mix of production and single stack? Production size and weight and a single action trigger. Or allow single action only guns in production, that’s basically the same thing as allowing a 1911 with a magwell into the division.
  4. Going with the line of reasoning that SS minor and production with an all steel gun is basically L10 minor, wouldn’t it make sense to allow a 2011 without a magwell (or at least one that fits the box) in this new hybrid division. Then you could run a 2011 with a steel grip in 9mm which would turn it into a single action only 1911 style version of a cz or tanfo production gun.
  5. Whoops just saw I put this in the wrong section. Thought I hit general gunsmithing. Thanks for the response though, I’ve been checking out a lot of turnbull 1911’s and I think it would look awesome on a double stack
  6. Is it possible to color case harden a stainless grip? I know 1911 and cz frames get done semi-frequently so I was wondering if a stainless steel grip could be case hardened as well.
  7. Soooooo, are you going to share?
  8. I did some thinking and you could get some powdered tungsten and mix it with epoxy then apply it to the grip after some radius reduction then apply a couple layers , sand to fit, then do a final layer and add silicone carbide or grip tape I’d be willing to try especially since the grip modules aren’t too expensive
  9. Yeah it’s like silicone carbide but with tungsten filler, seems like something you could do yourself minus the internal weight
  10. I’d be up for going with ipsc production and classic rules. 15 rounds in production and classic remove the weight limit and it’s still 8-major and 10-minor
  11. No sight picture at a target and no dry fire, they are a lot more stringent on what you can and can’t do. Watching videos from world shoot and ipsc nationals very few people did anything beside a basic look around and load the gun, press check and holster, mostly stirring the pot at this point, we generally get a good laugh at our one notable extended make ready-er, generally all in good fun though
  12. Have to? You could sling shot pinch under the optic mount, or if you run a micro dot the mount is far enough forward to allow you to grab more meat on the slide. Just sayin
  13. Fair enough not 3-4 minutes but over a minute at times. Check all mags, dry fire 5 times, do 6 draws then run thought the whole stage again mentally and finally do a press check and check the mag in the gun before holstering and waiting for the beep. Not just locals, but others at bigger matches and mostly open shooters...
  14. I’d be cool with going full ipsc on make ready, the 3-4 min make ready primadonnas are irritating
  15. N320 with 180gr Black Bullets @ 1.190” 4.6gr: 917 FPS PF: 165 4.8gr: 945 FPS PF: 170 5.0gr: 983 FPS PF: 176 5.2gr: 996 FPS PF: 179 I use 5 grains but might drop to 4.9 but it runs great at 5
  16. Thanks, another shooter down here runs back and forth too and picked up a pound to try out, I just haven’t been home to actually do the testing yet. have you happened to try any of the shooters world powders in your open gun?
  17. Any word on metering in a hornady or Dillon case activated powder drop? I have a friend up here that complained about there being a lot of powder fling but that could be due the the Dillon shell plate snapping into position
  18. I believe they have a rule that specifically states you must have a slide mounted optic. And I believe that came about due to someone winning a bigger CO match without a dot on the gun. I’d have to run down the rule to be certain
  19. So, back on track here, what’s the intent of the rule? I have seen a couple posts saying it was for people to be more realistic in their use of gear to be more ‘practical’ in gear use and selection. So was the intent to ensure all individuals that decided to use a level2 or higher retention holster had to use any/all retention features on the holster while competing? Or was it to ensure gear/guns couldn’t inadvertently fall out of a pouch or holster while competing? I’d say the intent is what needs to be determined to then ensure the rule is still legitamate
  20. I think the 0 retention is misleading on hooded holster when the hood is down. The retention may be minimal but there is friction retention on all kydex holsters which is why standard kydex holsters without a hood or lock of any sort are considered level 1 retention. And that’s what a hooded holster becomes when the hood is not in the locked position
  21. That’s a lazy argument, ‘buy more stuff’ that’s in the same vein as saying you can always quit, you could just move, you don’t have to buy from that store, you could just leave. All of those choices, yes I understand they are choices and that you are indeed free to make them, come with varying levels of consequences in cost or other hardship, saying someone should ‘just buy another holster’ isn’t addressing the actual root of the issue. It shouldn’t matter if you’re a GM or unclassified the rules are set forth so that everyone should be able to shoot the same match and have the same opportunity to compete on a level playing field and a rule that is applicable only to one type of gear because of its appearance while serving the same function as another device is just subjective and since the letter of the rule says it’s how it should be done doesn’t make it acceptable. Side note: I see this sort of discussion as beneficial to the sport because it shows the active engagement of its membership who care to help make it better rather than let it stagnate.
  22. Delete the portion about straps, it’s outdated and unnecessary. Saying you can just buy more/different gear is a cop out.
  23. I disagree, one specific reason why a person would run retention gear is, Someone that runs a hooded holster for multigun and wants to shoot USPSA handgun with that gear. Why should they be penalized by adding an additional step to their draw because the retention device is a ‘strap’ as opposed to a lever?
