  1. I'm just looking for staring loads for the 9mm, The comp isn't all that effective with the light loads anyway, these are Steel loads and the comp on a SM isn't big enough for major. A friend of mine has been shooting a 38sc for years in a single stack and his loads are light and the gun hardly moves. Plus solo is supposed to be clean and soft recoiling...???? Don't know for myself so why not try. I'm looking for loads for a 9mm w/95, 115 or 124 gr jacketed bullets. I don't use lead bullets in anything. Not that they are bad I just don't play with them.
  2. I tried the 5.2 of WAC w/124gr MGJHP in a steel master and it shoots great. I also shot 5.4, 5.6 & 5.8, SD's in all were single digit and the groups were excellent. No reason to go faster than the 5.2 load at 1074 fps avg. I would like to try some solo 1000 loads if I can find a starting point.
  3. The RTS seems to run brighter longer than the regular Cmore. The Fov is smaller but nothing you can't get used to. The 7.5 moa looks bigger than it is. If you compare it to a 8 or 12 moa dot it looks bigger. I have both in varying dot sizes. The 3.5 dot is small and I think it's only good for 22 rimfire falling steel matches. BUT everyone uses what they like. I just think it is faster tracking the bigger dot. Easier to pick up swinging thru changing background colors.
  4. Where do you see that? I don't see where SC actually requires the same ready condition.
  5. Left handed shooters may like it better drawing to the right first, just like most right handed shooters like to draw to the left.....but in the end you have to find which way is best for you.
  6. I am just trying to clarify what is actually in writing as I am new to the sport, only 2nd year shooting steel. If you think a gun is any safer with that safety on or off then you are just fooling yourself. Many shooters use guns that don't have a thumb safety and miraculously don't shoot themselves. Please I don't need to hear smart a.. answers. Either its a requirement or it isn't. One shooter said that the safety must be engaged because the SC rules Appd A.1.1 says "Equipment requirements for the USPSA and IPSC, shall be governed by the respective rules and equipment criteria regarding firearm and holster configurations and rule interpretations." I don't agree I thought that was talking about the different types of gun categories from USPSA and IPSC ...limited, single stack....Don't misunderstand I think the safety should be engaged on a single action but I don't see where it says that. How can someone be DQ'd when no one can tell me where the rule is that says it. Steel challenge has it's own set of rules and it should be covered there not in another sports set of rules.
  7. You mean there isn't a RO out there that is willing to answer this?
  8. I may be missing it but I can't find anywhere in the current rules where a safety is required to be used when drawing a gun from the holster. The only rule I find that mentions safeties is specifically talking about rimfires being shot from low ready. Does this mean that an external thumb safety does not have to be engaged prior to holstering a loaded weapon at the beginning of each string? Just trying to clarify.
  9. I ran a slide mount...they are not the best way to shoot open is as nice as I can put it. You may as well be shooting open sights tracking the damn thing. Much easier to shoot with frame mounted optics. Just send Bob Carver a G17 and 4 weeks later he will return it and it will run. I haven't had a failure as long as I had the right load in the gun......Just remember comp's change everything...so you need more gas.
  10. the polish plate rack make the star look like childs play, but its the same strategy, keep it balanced. Now if I could just shoot clean then neither would get the chance to move. I always start on the stars in case I miss and it starts spinning. Then I just go on to the other targets and come back to the star after finishing the rest of them. This of course depends on the course layout and wouldn't work in a uspsa style match...but it does work at falling steel matches. I think they are a ton of fun......just like the olshooting galleries.
  11. Where in the north east? We are in the same boat now..... But for us.... Oppressive gun laws and insane property taxes. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD I'm NW of Philly so at least PA doesn't have the communistgun laws like NJ or worse yet Mass, or NY, but the cold and snow and traffic is just as bad
  12. I lived in Orlando for a year, but that was in the mid 80's so things a way different there now. I would rather deal with the heat than the cold up here and the North east attitudes and traffic. Hope to get moved down there in the next couple of months
  13. Thanks for all of the help. We don't mind driving to ranges and the wifey likes the beach. So any where from Orlando over to the east coast isn't a problem for us. Now I just have to find her a job down there so we can get the hell out of the north east. I really hate not being able to shoot year round
  14. The wife and I and thinking about moving to Florida, somewhere around the Tampa / Orlando area. We shoot a lot of steel challenge type matches and would like to continue. I know of the matches at Frostproof but are there many other clubs in Florida that shoot steel. Does anyone know if you can join the range in Frostproof or is it just a training center/business. Thanks for the help
  15. Kita The "Zen state" or what ever you want to call it will help you a lot but this is something that won't come without a lot of experience. The mental side of any game is a lifelong pursuit. It is the only part that you will never completely master. For now when you know others are watching just look at it from their point of view. They don't want to see you fail they want to see you suceed greatly. It is a rare competitor that wishes others do bad. So they are there to help you not see you fail. Even if you do badly they will help and nothinghas really changed in your world. If you loose or win how much has it changed your lot in life? None...So don't sweat the watchers and shoot for yourself and only against yourself.
  16. That's a Cheeley mount and they work great.
  17. A lady in VA was recently arrested by the BATF for buying guns for the sole purpose of reselling at inflated prices. People that do this are scum and if you know someone doing it that doesn't have a business license it is illegal. I don't know if the batf has jurisdiction or not but I hope they stop more of these scumbags.
  18. Isn't that too fast to be sub-sonic? My mini-mag stuff says 710fps? (haven't tried it yet) The Remington Thunderbolt Sub-Sonic runs well The speed of sound is 1125 FPS this changes according to elevation and air density. Generally anything that is 1080 fps or less is subsonic just to give yourself a bit of wiggle room. Check velocity out of your gun because an inch of barrel once you are under about 15"s makes a huge difference
  19. " I don't think you can get the stars out of the shed. They have a separate lock that I think only MDs have a key to. I actually wish they would have stars more often. They aren't my strongest point either largely because the only way to practice on them is at the matches or drop about $1,500 or so for one which isn't going to happen. " You can buy a Real Texas Star from GT Targets for $675 plus 95 if you also want the rimfire plates Karl the owner of GT Targets is also a forum Sponsor !
  20. Zevtech Its on a 34 that is just getting me by until my real open gun comes back from Bob Carver....No brake on this and slide mounted optic........This has got to be the dumbest way to shoot open.
  21. Thanks I actually was thinking that it was the magwell pinching the body just a little or dirt. I had already added 1/2' rubber to the bottoms but like you suggested, I think the heavier ones from Taylor freelance ma be a better alternative.
  22. Thanks for the help It's not just one mag so it's either dirt or something I changed on the gun.
