  1. I say that it is in front of the competitor and actually well in front of the 2x4 bracing. It may only be about thumb size. Kenny

    Which one?

Normally Aspriated. Mouse or Rat? (motor)
  3. I am not a true limited shooter. I shoot limited maybe once a year at the Texas State Limited Championship. As such, I have never intentionally shot major in limited. From 1996-2000, I ran a 9mm Tanfoglio. In 2001 I switched to STI and run a 5" Eagle in 9mm. My Standard division pistol is a Tru-sight in 38super. I took a four year break from limited in 2001 to 2005. My USPSA classification percentage in Limited is 83.75%. In 1999-2000 I averaged 85.05%, with multiple penalties, at TSLC with 12 of the 13 Texas GM's shooting the match, but this is not the same as running the nationals where I was 79% against TGO with one penalty in the match. Is it easy running minor? NO. Is it fun? YES, especially in 96-97 when most were still running 45's. If you want to do it, then do it. Just remember that everytime you miss the A-zone you are losing double the points than the folks shooting major for the same hit (I consider D's a lucky non miss). my $.02 K
  4. Demetrio, Boa Tarde! Welcome back to Practical Shooting. As Brian mentioned, there are few Brasilians that drop in and out on BE. Which state do you live in? Allison Vericio (Vericio_Brazil), the reigning PanAmerican Revolver Champion (all hail the king ), lives in Minás Gerais and visits here quite frequently, although he will be busy for the next few weeks. Regards, Kenny
  5. Bill, I've been using AVG from Gris-soft on my 5 systems for a while. It's free and they maintain their updates as well as the big guys. Kenny
  6. Way back when the .308 with a 168hg HPBT was the king of Hunter Class Benchrest, the idea twist was 1:15. In '88, I had my gun rechambered to .30x47, running SG 125gr FBHP. With the 1:15 barrel the gun would shoot .009" group (in ideal weather conditions). During this time Speedy (Tom) Gonzales just set a new world record with a 250-31x score shooting .30x47, 125gr FB and 1:15 twist. However he thought a 1:14 would do better. Today, the .30BR is starting to show promise in varimant (the case is too small for hunter), with 1:17 or 1:18 twist rates. 110gr .925" - 1:18 125gr 1.000" - 1:17 The formula to use for determining twist is: Twist = C*D2/L x (SG/10.9)1/2 where: C=180 for velocities over 1800ft/s (150 for velocities under) D=bullet diameter (inches) L=bullet length (inches) SG=bullet specific gravity (which is 10.9 for lead-core bulletes) I realize that you are discussing 3-gun rifle, where the ranges vary and you may be varying your bullet selection; but if you are shooting a dedicated 100/200 yd bench gun, the above formula will provide the optimum twist. For a good all-around 30cal barrel, the 1:11 or 1:12 twist is an excellant choice. Kenny
  7. Cliff, I coming up for the qualifier. Going to be running Modified. Kenny
  8. Here is the letter from NSSF. (Click Here) Kenny
  9. Kimmie, Are you by any chance Left-handed? STI use to place fitted short blocks on their table for display. Everytime I picked one up and cycled it a time or two, the slide stop would fall out of the table. This was through no fault of the pistol. The frames did not have the slide stop plunger installed, I'm left-hand, and gravity is constant; the slide stop would fall out. Homer Johnson locked his SV up in Corpus many year's ago because his thumb pushed on the pin at just the wrong moment. The slide stop started to come out and wedged with the slide. Kenny
  10. I had the fun last year of walking the 85 yards up and down for the 137 competitors. My parting words to Jimmy were that I had access to a "Big Cat" and if necessary that range could disappear under the cover of darkness. Kenny Maybe since Alex will be back, he can reclaim his claim as ruler of the standards.
  11. What graphics program are you using? Kenny
  12. Speaking as someone who has never fired a major load in a Limited match, go give it a try. You can have a couple A-C, but you don't want 2-C or an A-D. I finally talked Dave Dawson into trying minor at TSLC one year and my little Italian friend kind of wore him out. I show minor for a couple of reasons. First I don't like the feel of a 40 and second I don't want to slow down. With a properly tuned 9, I can run the pistol just like it was my open gun. Kenny
  13. I punched it in at work today, slow day waiting on IM to come steal my box, the airfare from Texas to DPS was about $3300 going through Hong Kong. The high end hotels are $100 a night. El Prez said he would love to see the WS return to North America. Someone/everyone needs to get their bid submitted and presentation ready for the GA next year in Bali. Ammo Update - from Armscor Now we need to know if Blackdragon (Ivan) has received word of any incoming shipments to the U.S. Kenny
  14. My 9mm limited load is either: Winchester white box 115gr or, CCI Blazer 115 gr. Kenny
  15. Transparent is better, because there is sufficent light entering pupil so that it does not dialate. Place it so that the bottom edge of the tape is just low enough to block the sights, and it will still be high enough to allow for full peripheral vision. Kenny
  16. Flex, Since this starting to drift away from Jeff's GREAT match and into rules dissussion and interpretation, should the thread be split? There's the rub. Where you grip the gun, where I grip the gun, and what the manufacturer calls the grip are three different things. There are separate rules for competitor and equipment. (This is one of the many reasons why I wouldn't touch production with a 3.05m pole. There is also the lack of a dot-lens thingy , Wait a minute! I did that on two stages, on top of the gun. ) Kenny
  17. It was great shooting with you too. 50+ yards is no problem (if you have a working scope), I cut by I-teeth on standards. What taxed me was all of the climbing and descending into the bays. I was glad I had first class seating coming home Saturday morning, my calves were in a serious state of cramps. Kenny
  18. What is a USPSA match?? I have been a member of USPSA for 22 years and I compete in IPSC matches, although when said matches are held in the US they have been under the USPSA version of the IPSC rulebook but it is still an IPSC match. (OK, it's just semantics and I know what Neil is asking but thats the truth.) The 3-2-1 ratio is a recommendation. Most pure IPSC matches (read: no revisions to the rulebook) that I've shot have followed this ratio, but the medium courses are between 10 and 24 rounds. Jeff/Larry and company hosted an excellent match and followed section 1.2 to the tee. (I prefer Brazil's balance rather than a straight out of the book design.) Short courses: If there is a short course at a US held match, it will only require one position and most of the time the targets are all static. IPSC short courses on the other hand rely on activator targets to present an additional challenge. The TE match followed this format. The US exemptions on sight pictures do not affect me. I don't feel the need to point the pistol at every target. (although, I heard that Jerry M got a warning for taking 2 sight pictures) Equipment checks are not a problem, but I can see when as an RO if you are not use to performing them where it could be a nuisance. (I noticed a couple of lax calls on position, but they were caught by seasoned IPSC RO's before the competitor shot and got bumped to open.) I would like to see the physical firearms check be performed before the match rather than dumping it all on the chrono officer, but that is just a person preference. The equipment card is the best place to track warnings, but most stages gave us the cards back after the check. (Also, I don't think that anyone in my squad received a warning so it didn't matter. It could also be that our squad was mainly Canadian and two crazy Texans. ) Each style of match holds its own flair and flavor and each is equally fun to shoot. A two position short course can offer as much if not more challenge than a 20 round squirt fest. The TE may have leaned a little heavy on the accuracy side of the DVC triangle, but it was not a problem if you know your pistol, the sights, and you know your cadence on each distance and type of shot. A lot of US start positions rely on two dots, place heals or toes on the marks and TE followed this pattern. I like the style of using a 0.5m board and the requirement of feet touching anywhere on the board. Kenny Now if I can resolve the ammo troubles and keep the scope on for all stages, I'll be ready for Tulsa. If anyone is interested, I can repair an OKO scope. I completely took mine apart Thursday night to trace an electrical short (at the LED inside the module). The only problem was knowing whether or not I had returned it to zero elevation. Found out after the first stage on Friday (8penalties&7misses). It was 150mm low on the close targets.
  19. Quicks, Armscor does manufacture rimless 38 Super brass. Part of the deal in being the IPSC official match provider is providing IPSC ammunition to IPSC requirements. (I know that they have purchased 4 guns from STI strictly to perform performance testing for IPSC requirements.) Write Armscor, cc Nick A., requesting information on ammunition for the WS and ask them when will it be available in the U.S. for purchase. (This way you can ensure how it will function in your gun.) The next option is to freight ship your ammo. This information will be provided on the WS website and according El Prez on Friday night, it should also be on ipsc.org as soon as it's available. Kenny
  20. Sharyn, I feel your pain. Try two stages on Thursday without any dot (Stage 3 and then stage 1 at the end of the day). Plus fighting marginal ammunition, my fault for not bringing my own. Thursday night, I completely disassembled the scope and traced to short to the positive lead on the led. We started on stage 11 Friday morning and I knew that the scope was within 1/2 turn plus or minus of zero. 8 Penalties and 7 misses later I knew that it was 1/2 turn too low. The match was not has hard as everyone is trying to make you think, if you knew your pistol and your sights. I ran the match minor and still out pointed the modified field on the majority of the stages. Oh yea, and with scope problems, I out penaltied everyone too (I think). Once again, my hat is off to Jeff, Larry, and the entire crew for an excellent match with a beautiful blend of speed and accuracy. Kenny The biggest problem was getting up Saturday morning to head to the airport. My calves were is a permanent state of cramps from climbing up and down into the bays.
  21. Houngan, When did you go through chrono? There were two boxes at the match, both are the personal property of individuals (one was mine). Both of these boxes will probably be the largest you will ever see. They are within specification, but made to within 0.1mm of the max dimensions allowed. I may offer mine to the Tusla match, but there is no guaranty that they will want to accept my offer. A word to the wise, you may want to trim your base pads. It was any excellent match, though. I would like to extend a giant THANK YOU to Jeff and all of his hard working crew. Kenny sq 12
  22. Well, it looks like I am in the minority once again. Once it was determined that each division was/is shooting a separate match, we should have removed the EZWinScore combine match feature. Yes we all know that it's unofficial, but if you really want to see how you did again the other divisions run the factors manually, or get one of the palm scoring programs and enter you and all of your buddies in it, or even better sign up in open. It's already been stated, but everything fits in open. Kenny
  23. All of my STI's are pinned, too many year of running a Tanfoglio, . I don't even come close to deactivating the grip safety. Kenny
  24. I've only had one break, and I bought it a the 2002 Open Nationals so if was first generation design. It didn't break where it's peened though. It broke on the ledge where the main recoil spring sits, show in highlighted area. I finished the stage (at the Texas Open in Waco) as a manual action closing the slide. After the stage was over, I went to the vendor area and bought a new one. Later I switched by to my delrin guide rod because I couldn't keep the RM from rubbing on the barrel. I've been running one in my Brazos Pro Sx for several years. It's a 4.15 with a 7# variable commander spring for IPSC loads and a 8# for the U.S. Kenny
  25. I've never ran a blast shield, until my officer's length hybrid. When I first shifted from the Tanfoglio's to STI, my first pistol was a 5" slide with a 4-port hybrid. The back side of the lense received more soot than the front. My current open gun is a Brazos Pro Sx, 4-poppleholes. Smokes up the lense the same as the hybrid I always apply a protective coating, which enables the residue to be wiped off with a cotton rag. Just my own experiences. Kenny Oh yea, on the modified, I'm running an OKO with intregal blast shield. I forget to apply the coating and almost didn't get it clean after the first hundred rounds. Last night I discovered that the blast shield was cracked and was only 5° from the scope.
