  1. whizz, Remember you are there to shoot YOUR GUN, I hear from my autoloading buddies how sorry they are because there are 8 shots in this array, and so forth, I tell them, "that's OK I am used to it" and besides it just helps with the reload practice. If at all figure out how to reload on the move, if not possible figure out how to reload into an easy target and/or leave on an easy target. Don't be afraid to shoot 1 target and leave doing a reload to have all 6 avalilabe for the next array even though you had 4. But most important. HAVE FUN and be safe. AND don't get discuraged when they have faster times than you as they are really scared of your revolver and you beating them Hopalong
  2. BDH, You may want to go the Superglue route? Staples that would work for you ( shipping box type) would leave too big of a scar. See you there, with "shootin Iron" Hopalong
  3. James H, how about 2 liberal Democrats for 1 good shooter, glad to send you them and maybe a whole bunch more. Hopalong
  4. Well it could have waited, or maybe not. Last week I traveled to Memphis and shot in their monthly match... One of my goals for the year was to shoot 60% or better for the Match of the match winner (in Memphis that is usually a GM or M open shooter) I have been pushing hard the last 2 weeks trying to shorten my times of field courses and it has payed off.... to a certain extent we will see after next week. any way I ended up with a 65.6% of the Match winner, M-open I only had 1 stage that I would like to have back and looking at the results, so would most everyone else. A good boost of confidence right before USPSA Nationals Just maybe don't get too over confident? Oh well 2 of the 5 major goals conquered 3 to go !!! Hopalong B- Revolver
  5. Thread drift again... Spook, you going to make it to the US for some of the bigger matches (nationals ect.)? Hopalong
  6. Thread Drift Zookeeper, Welcome to the forums ! Hopalong
  7. Steve, You are doing the right and honoralble thing ! The guy Corria was talking about is nothing but a total JERK More people will respect you and say good things about you for doing this and that is a good thing. The a$$ mentioned above now has to live with his actions and all the disrespect that comes with it. GOOD FOR YOU !!!!! and Good Luck ! (if you want to shoot another one come to Corinth MS. in November and shoot the MS State IDPA match we ususally get 125+ shooters and this year it is a STI contengecy match) Hopalong/Sam Keen
  8. Thanks for the input Erik, Religious shooter, and Kurt As I am used to what is on there and have been debating on it, I will run with the dot... Look out Benny, Am changing spark plugs in the Cadillac and flipping the Breather cover Thumb is safe for now..... now where is that hobble????? Looking forward to seeing ya'll guys agian. Hopalong.
  9. 635, Welcome back to the "real" guns OOPS i meant wheel guns 1 trigger jobs -- I do my own and use Wolf Reduced power spring kits but the next one will be a Black Majic kit. 2 what does the best in the world shoot ??? 5 inch 625 3 Mine has a 6 1/2 double action pull 4 except for the spring kit and the Miculek grip, and Millet sight it is 100% factory 1989 model 625-4 (firing pin on hammer) have 1989 model 625-6 (internal firing pin) set up exactly the same, can't tell any difference. 5 several out there.... check Brownells 6 Dave Hearth, Hearthco look back on some earlier posts and click on Hearthco and e-mail him (they are expensive though) 7 200 grain Precision round nose .45 4.5 grn Clays (be careful with this powder as it is a high pressure powder) factory O.A.L. Federal Large pistol primers On the Clays start low and work up.... at any sighn of too much pressure quit and get another powder but .45 ACP in not near as bad as .40 S&W for .40 s&w i use 155 grn precision rond nose 5.7 grns vv n320 fed small pistol and load 1.125 ( i also have a 610) 8 I found Mine at the local gushop, have not seen any others, the newer models seem to be OK. If you still have the 686 shoot it for now, your choice of Major or Minor (I personally would shoot minor as an A is an A) and the recoil is more manageable. as far as .45 being more of an advantage, not until your reload makes a difference in stage times... sorry but that is just how it is with these round things I can run my 610 just as good as the 625 but the 610 is a 4 inch gun and I like the extra weight out on the end of the barrel the 625 has plus with the 610 that little extra meet between the chambers can cause some reloading difficulties. Good Luck, Hope to see you out on a range sometime, somewhere. Hopalong / Sam Keen
  10. Thanks BDH !!!! I am proud to say I and other BE.comer's were on that squad and am just as proud to say that if you waited just a hair after the RO said range is clear Jerry and Kay both were out there and had it done I have heard they were a class act and now I can tell you with my own eyes that this is a true statement. Squad members on that squad that are BE.comers: cjl32 Cliff Walsh myself - Hopalong could have been others but I did not know This was a very good squad as everyone helped not only pasting, setting steel, picking up the shooters mags but all were supportive of the other shooters. My Squad at Area - 4 was also a very good squad when it came down to working and resetting.... BUT that Sunday morning in the Rain we had some of the shoot throughs that had been reinstated come through. out of the 3-2 of them did their part but one of them just stood under the tent until it was his turn to shoot and did not even bother to say thanks for letting me shoot through Not saying his name but he is a well known sponsored shooter who has lost all respect from several in our squad because of it... Oh yeah, RENEET tell Jerry Thanks for the kind comment.
  11. Religious Shooter, Burris has been sitting on top of a Ruger Super Redhawk chambered in .454 Casull, for the last 2 years and is doing fine. Should have enough time after USPSA Pistol Nats to "get used to it" Can't let Kurt and Benny use me for a Mop at Arkansas....... my other options are 1 break Kurts left hand thumb.... 2 Hobble Benny...... At the TN tactical match they had the small poppers out at around 180 yds, I was using the dot and turned it down to where it was see able but not "bright" you had to shoot 1 through a barrel and move to another barrel and shoot the other, I managed 1 miss on each but I think it was more the driver than the cadillac
  12. OK now that the line is drawn in the sand.... I know Clay and the guys at Arkansas have up to 600 yds to shoot rifle, (don't expect to shoot that far though) I am using the M1A scout/Squad rifle and at this time have an aimpoint with a 3 min. dot. If you notice the Scout/Squad rifle has a forward mount (on the barrel in front of the reciever) I feel we will be shooting 300 yds and at that distance the red dot will cover the inteded target up if I have it turned up very much and by the numbers if I have a perfict rifle and can shoot it one hole at 100 yds the best I could get is a nine inch group that means accuracy is on the poor side to say the least. I have a Burris 1 1/2 x 5 Pistol scope I can put on it as I don't want Benny and Kurt to absolutely smoke me too bad. Should I try this set up or get a different dot with a 1MOA ? Have been using the dot set up for about a year now ... Yes Kurt I might listen if you don't lead me to astray.... Hopalong
  13. Firewalker, "NICE" looking collection of "real" guns, oh I meant Wheel guns ! Makes me drool (kinda) Yes if you do Convert to the "DARKSIDE" you may get a picture with SIGLADY!!!!! Hopalong
  14. Mikey 357, Go to the referenced website, on the main page click on the BLUE Link that says MAP. The map is from Corinth, MS if you need to use Mapquest or the sort. Good luck and thanks for the intrest. All else looking could you please post if you are thinking about coming.... That way I will have an Idea if we need to plan for more than just the locals shooting... Thanks SAM KEEN/ Hopalong
  15. Good Looking BOTTOM FEEDER !!!! I thought the 646 was your choice of weapon of mass destruction to tote around? You are not converting to the Darkside are You? Hopalong
  16. Zak my shooting compadre.... you mentioned that we should be having those calibers soon..... I(we, Kurt, Benny, ect) are talking about what is available now to John Q shooter who wants to get into this thing without specializing too much. Correct me if I'm wrong there guys Hopalong
  17. Aierdale, First of all... GOOD SHOOTING at Area-5 50% of Jerry Miculeck and you call yourself a D class shooter? Here is my load I shoot in My 610 for USPSA, Drop 10% and chronograph as all guns don't shoot the same .. You are looking for an average of 840 fps with these bullets, that will give you 130,000 and a little bit. Bullet ...... Precision 155 grn round nose ( reloads the best in revolvers ) Powder..... Vita-Vori N320 (it and Clays are the two cleanest for me) Primers.....Federal small pistol (revolvers with soft trigger pull must have this) Factory Over all Length 1.125 This should get your crimp just behind the first land of the bullet shoulder. I use mixed brass and don't have any problems. This load Makes 170,000 PF in the 610 (major). You may substitute Clays to make your own MINOR load as you will not have any pressure trouble at the minor level but do not use it to make Major. 155grn Precision bullet .40 Round Nose 5.7 grains V.V N320 ( remember this is for Major) as I generally shoot my major loads in IDPA (no major) anyway Federal Small Pistol primer mixed brass O.A.L. 1.125 If I remember right as I forgot to write it down the time I did download I think I used 5.0 grns. If you use Clays start from the Minimum and go up until you get to around 130,000 PF (840 for 155grn) Good Luck and see you next week. SAM/Hopalong
  18. Funny thing you mentined that Eric, I normally shoot steel good, love shooting it but right now it is my achilies tendon... Maybe more of that "overconfidence " thing? Hopalong
  19. I see on the forums all the time to "see what you need to see", but confidence has so much to do with our shoot too. Kind of like the trust your sights, timing thing on some of the other threads. Here is one to ponder on.... At the TN section the classifier was Long Range standards, won't go into stage description. 2 weeks before I went to a local club match and there they were in all their glory. so we shoot this thing and I shoot a clean stage (no mikes) and only have 2 d hits and shot it in a total of 32 seconds with change. So instead of doing much concentrated practice on this "stage" I do some other drills, Including the plate rack out to 50 yds. Come match day it is drizzleing, had been raining, but not real distracting. not really worried about this stage as I had shot it well 2 weeks before and the 50 yd plate rack went ok. End up with 7 mikes one each on standing and kneeling (ok if no more) and 5 on prone... the guys in the squad said I started fine up in the A zone but as I shot they steadily went down and off the target. I did end up shooting the thing in 29 plus change so maybe a little adrinaline? Long range stuff does not scare me as once a week we shoot 12 inch plates at 100 yds. Any suggestions? I think I was a little overconfidant and maybe did not pay enough attention to the job at hand? Anyone else do stuff like this? Hopalong.
  20. OK guys, It seems That the only guys who know how to set up and run a 3-gun match are gone for the weekend so we are having only a Pistol USPSA match instead... SORRY ( I am off to USPSA nationals and the range owner is going to be out of town too as his son must shoot FREE PISTOL at Bragg) Will see you at a range somewhere, (Arkansas?) SAM
  21. Kurt, I ALWAYS Shoot the M1A.. I just hope Benny doesn't mind them eating his overgrown Matell toy !!!! See Ya'll there. Sam Yes I will bring a crying towel, (maybe for me too)
  22. Bronco, Ya'll Mid-Westerners are SADIDISTIC Hope to shoot plenty of .223 at it ( remember I shot .308) See You at Ft. Smith soon. HOPALONG/SAM
  23. Dajerrel, Sorry to hear about the smoke test of the 650.... good to hear that only thing hurt is your ringing ears and the ceiling. Smoke test of NEW 650 - BAD Dillon fixing you right up - GOOD BE calling to check with son to see if all was in order..... GREAT (ok maybe a little too much here) Which primer did it? the one coming down the tube and going into the disc or the one you were seating? Hopalong
  24. benny, Thread drift on... Looking forward to having another 308 shooter. you going to shoot in the Tactical division or Open? (me thinks Tactical) will be ROing so request squadding with Me as ROs stay with the squad for the whole match. (Arkansas 3-gun) I promise not to let the M1A trounce on your overgrown matell toy too bad See you there, looking forward to it. Thread drift off.... As for Major is it worth it ? as some one mentioned earlier... Look at what the winners at the Big matches are shooting.... An A is an A wheather you shoot .308, .223 or .50bmg. I personally enjoy shooting my M1A as Rifles are made with wood stocks and it is real satisfying when there is a long list of .223 shooters below you on the stats sheet It all boils down to personal prefrence as far as the platform goes, IMHO when they came out with the Tactical Division they should have limited the Mags to 20 rounds max that would help even things out just a little as everyone would be in the same boat as far as round management goes. Good Luck and see you at the range somewhere, sometime. Hopalong
  25. Carmoney, Inside of chambers seems like the outside of cylinder, kind of powder coat looking and to the finger not real smooth.... will take FLITZ and the drimmel tool to one and see.... SAM Thanx round gun shooter, if all else fails....
