  1. Rhino, On the Burris Extended Eye Relief Pistol scope that I mentioned above it does not. It does, as with all variable power scopes when you turn up the power have a smaller field of view but the only time I would turn it up would be for anything past 200 yds where Field of view is really a non Issue plus with the scope being a forward mount it is easy to keep track of the next target with the week eye. Hopalong Benny, Kurt, any comments or suggestions for A/M ?

  3. A/M, I have a Scout/Squad and currently have a Propoint on it but test for Accuracy with a Burris 1 1/2 x 5 and have considered using it and will play with it during the winter months. Our range does not have anything past 2oo yds or so so really the dot is the way to go but it was kind of tough hitting the 12 inch plates at 300 yds in Arkansas last month where the cross hairs would have been the cats a$$. I would recomend the 1 1/2 x 5 before the 2x7 personally but it is what you get used to.... Good Luck Oh yeah did I tell you I LOVE my Scout Squad? Hopalong
  4. Well, Safety Officers and a few that could only make the match today shot.... there were 4 revolver shooters that shot today, 1 MM, 2 SS and 1EX(me) I can not remember the exact numbers on the others but the MM seems to me that he shot a GOOD Sharpshooter score. The two Sharpshooters may have been had by the Marksman they all seemed to me as they shot the same speed and the MM had fewer points down. I had a good match but can do better (and worse too) so I will take what I shot and let the rest try to catch me. ( I know there are at least 2 more Expert signed up for Saturday) It is a 10 stage match with several movers in all directions no swingers but some drop turners and some twisters( on elctric motors that continually appear and disappear) there is a reload standards that even require revolvers to do a reload with retention or tactical reload. There is even a Lefties revenge stage wehre you have to move to the left (quite different). I shot a raw time of 164.47 and dropped 25 points for the match giving me a total of 177.97 If I had to shoot it again after seeing the stages I don't think I could improve on it much maybe 5 to 7 seconds faster but the chance of more dropped points would be higher so I am kind of satisfied with the results. Tomorrow Jerry M will show us all how it is done and so will Ron Holland a Master Revolver (IDPA) shooter from Alabama that if I can remember right ended up 4th at the IDPA Nationals this year. I will post results for the revolver Division in the evening when all the smoke clears. Sam
  5. gunboy, Welcome to the forums, I have been using a S&W 610 loaded with 10mm that work out to the same as a 41 mag. I set a 100 yard max for me using Iron sights and have had good sucess with that. (150yds with 1 1/2x5 scope) I use a Millet Medium from brownells ( the same as My USPSA sight on my 625 ) and the factory front sight and have ZERO complaints, if I do my part the gun does it's part. This Year I will be using the 657 with a 2x Boush&Lomb that is slightly more accurate, it doesn't increase the range just the confidence factor Good Luck and Good Hunting, let us know if you get the MONSTER Elusive Whitetail. SAM KEEN / Hopalong
  6. Benny, I have good news for you.... for the Mississippi state match I am including a seperate division just for fun, the overall match will be the same Limited, Tactical, open but will have a Heavy-Metal division as a test run. Simple rules. Rifle Major PF .308 cal or bigger Limited and/or Tactical (depending on entries) Shotgun 12 guage only no speedloaders Pistol Major PF Single stack autos or revolvers Notice I put Major PF..... There may be a chrono this year.... We are planning on the 1st weekend of May so there is no conflict with Area-6 pistol match and the TX 3-gun. Details to follow as we get them hashed out. By the way good shooting at the ARKANSAS match... and good to see you again. Hopalong
  7. Ok so I am a day late so: Happy Birthday +1 both of ya'll Renee, see you in 2 weeks please don't smoke me as bad as you did at the Mississippi Monsoon Jake see you sometime, somewhere until then were pulling for that 100% for you, Know you can do it !!!!!! Hopalong
  8. Bjorn, Jerry said the small slick grip is the KEY to his fast reloads, he said he can manipulate the gun in and out of his hands best with the small grip and even goes as far as sometimes adding a little "cornstarch" powder to his hands to help make it slicker. I myself on the other hand have short fingers and the smaller grip makes it (N-Frame) more like an L except the weight. and I think grip adjustments are slightly easier with the small slick grip too. RogerT good luck, Welcome to the forums and the world of revolvers, when I changed over from the autos I never thought I would enjoy them so much. Hopalong
  9. Well it is no longer Mercenary !!!!! Bottom Feeder sheered a lug off the bottom Oh well I guess I will just HAVE to shoot the 610 instead time to go practice and knock off the spider webs.. Will give results in a week. HOP
  10. Mississippi State USPSA 3-gun will be held at the same place as last year, but in early May instead of Late, That way the serious 3-gunners can shoot the Mississippi state match AND the Texas state match. More Details to follow..... BUT I can tell ya'll this.... it will be a two day match again, Saturday will be multi-gun stages and a few single gun stages, Sunday will finish up the single gun. I am thinking of a HE/IRON man division but also including those scores in the Tactical or limited Division.... more to follow on that too. I did agree to be the MD again, But we have a new Prize Table/Sponsor coordinator and a very energetic one at that. things will be the same.... Prize table by random and payback from entries to match, division and class winners. I will post the official announcement on the USPSA and 3gunmatches.com when it is finalized. SAM KEEN

  12. I left out a small amount of info.... This gun is drilled and tapped from the factory. Could you give a source, (link, phone number, catalog ect) Thanks HOP
  13. I have this new to me 657 S&W that I plan on Deer hunting with, I have a good scope but am needing a mount. Is the only one available the B-square? how well will it hold up to fairly Hot loads? Any one else have an N - frame with a scope other than the B-square? running out of time, have the 610 (4 inch) loaded with 10 MM for 50 yds and in(Iron sights I know .40 S&W would do but just in case I hit the shoulder) would be able to get 150 yds in several places with optics on the 657. Thanks for the Info, ahead of time. SAM / Hopalong
  14. Dave, See post above last..... I am going to Athens AL. this morning but will be back Thursday, will see if I can get results or at least a link then. Sam
  15. Well I really enjoyed the Arkansas 2 gun (yes you read right) as the pistol portion of the match was cancelled due to excessive Humidity (ok rain). Clay and David and Mike and Mark did an excelent job of getting some good stages for us to shoot that tested me pretty good. I am sorry we did not get to shoot on Sunday as I was looking forward to it but that is just the way it worked out. Benny Hill won Tactical Aggregate for rifle and shotgun Kurt Miller won Limited Aggregate for rifle and shotgun James Darst took Open Aggregate for rifle and shotgun Benny and James were both on my squad so I actually got to see the butt whipping they were giving me but the Rat Rifle and I did not back down (ran out of bullets though) I enjoyed seeing everyone again and hope to see ya'll soon. Congrats to the overall and all class winners and keep up the good work. Bronco----You know I will not take a butt kicking like that sitting down SAM
  16. BIG thread drift the MERCENARY shot a steel only but USPSA style match with the bottomfeeder today..... Evedintely I did not forget how to use it, ended up 2nd overall behind an Open blaster. Reloads were S L O W as I had to think about doing them instead of just doing them like I used to. Will be glad to return to the wheel gun for the East Texas Section match. In the year I have shot the wheel gun I have had as much or more fun with it as my Auto and have really enjoyed the challenge of shooting it. FWIW Hopalong / Sam / Mercenary
  17. But guys, I have a decent chance at winning my class with the ESP gun and that would be all I need for the Contengency win to pick up a new slide for the "project bottom feeder" Besides, I have had the pleasure of shooting with Jerry at Area-3 and at the same matches at US Nationals and Mississippi Monsoon. I will be a safety officer on one of the stages therefore could not shoot with him anyway so I will only get to watch him on the stage I am working. He is a pleasure to shoot with and is inspiring to watch for sure. The chance to get the slide will more than likely win out here though. SAM You know it is a money thing, not spending any money on the match except ammo, but have chance to get expensive slide if I win.
  18. One week away from tomorrow Have M1A sighted in with 168 grain bullets (NOT WHIMPY 110 grn) Will shoot Flat sided Bottom feeder in All steel match to warm up for it this Sunday Shotgun is Remmey 11-87 all it needs is food. Looking forward to seeing everyone, but I am apologizing now for not remembering the name with the face. Sam SG good to hear the news, will be fun seeing RB hobble around trying to shoot, and you giving him a lesson in the propper way to shoot a 3-gun match
  19. I just got off the phone with the Our Match director, Greg Brose he informed me that he recieved an entry from one MR. Jerry Miculek and two cohorts. He also said that he is up to 80 competitors with 3 weeks to go and is still expecting 20 more that have verbally commited (some shooting revolvers) Now that puts me in a delima, STI has granted us Contengency status and I was planning on shooting ESP to try for a contengency win but NOW there is this situation. Shoot STI? or Shoot SMITH&WESSON ? I am in the process of trying to build a flat sided bottom feeder and only need a slide as I have aquired a frame and barrel and some other parts so a contengency will would be a good thing. More info on the match : www.crssa.com Hopalong we have always had a fairly good turnout of revolver shooters any way so this is like icing on the cake.
  20. Oh yeah, I forgot on the previous posts so here goes To the BE.com ers the ones who introduced themselves that I had not met yet like DAJERREL and his crew he brought with him it is always good to meet some others and put a face with some kind of name. Thanks for introducing yourselves and those whom I already knew (some only after getting the cobwebs out of the way) good to se you and sorry if I could not remember all of you as I can mostly remember fish swimming by. Bryant and John, see you next year. Hopalong
