  1. Woo Hoo !!!! Now that is more like it..... Mr. Clean
  2. Hey Sniper !!!! Good shooting at Nationals, too bad I did not get to root for you in person, as I was there for the first half. Keep up the good work, It is paying off !!!! Hop Yeah, I'm sure Lanny's book doesn't hurt either !!!!(good book btw)
  3. MCB, I started shooting Revos with a 4 inch 610... fine gun....I personally wanted a longer barrel, did not have anything against the caliber .40 S&W loaded to Major PF. Ran up on a good deal on a 625 so I got it, Like it as good as 610, reloads are just as good on 610 but more consistant with 625. Traded the 610 the other day for a third 625 I also have a 646 that I shoot with Minor loads, nice gun really "pointy" and since it is an L frame fits my smaller hands better.....I shoot this gun in ICORE when I get to shoot some (usually the Postal match as there is no other ICORE around my neck of the woods). If you find a 627 you would have to reload after every 6th shot any way so for USPSA Revolver division they are pretty much out. With Practice a 610 can and will be as good a gun as the 625 or 25 they are just harder to find (I like the longer barrels). Other equipment..... The safariland Holster is good, I use a CR speed, I see nothing wrong with some of the Holsters used in IDPA, with practice they are no different than a "Speed rig". Moonclips....there is a whole thread about them, I won't stir that pot Moonclip holders....Calfornia Comp is the most popular and that is what I have, but I am thinking about the Blade-tech double moon holders to try. Revo division is most likely the cheapest division to get into....4-500 bucks for a good used 625. Holsters from 30 to 200. moonclip holders 10 to 30 bucks. AMMO !!!!!! That is the Killer, and cost of gas to go on trips But sure is cheaper than Golf, Fishing and a few other "Hobbies" I've had Hopalong Glad to have you with us (we're a little crazy but it keeps the IDIOTS away )
  4. Well reading this made me go out and do it..... .80 draw, .18 split, 1.76 reload, .20 split. (2.94 total) I was shooting Static 8 inch plates at 10 yds, hit the right one twice and the left one once. Same Revolver and other stuff. Oh yeah.....A class hopalong
  5. So give them a demonstration of how the "new" division is no different than the "old" division. ESR vs. the old SSR Hop
  6. Our club bought one of these from Terry and Linda Asheton back in June, I have shot some of them before but after reading this yesterday I went and made a few runs on it. I decided to make it more interesting, shot it at 25 yds. 5.56 was the best run, most were in the low 6 second range (when I only needed 6 shots or less) Stars, like other steel are mostly hard only because we make it hard in our heads. Jerry, Have fun with the star you will figure it out as a very easy target. Hopalong
  7. Jerry V. You hit the nail on the head there with your signature line !!! Just right for that shirt Logo everyone was talking about in Pat's I'm a wheelgunner thread. Only thing, I would drop the IPSC and just put... "The few, the proud, the WHEELGUNNERS" !!!! I Like it, I like it a lot. hopalong
  8. On lead smoking and dirtyness... I have found the type of Lube is the most trouble.....Red seems to smoke the least but is a little more sticky... and yes they both get quite dirty after a good days practice. And I use 4.1 grns of Clays like Carmoney for my lead. Ranier 230 plated takes 4.4 for my gun Precision 230 takes 4.3 out of my gun that is to make 168,000 power factor or better. FWIW Mr. CLEAN
  9. Middleman and Underlug are shooting you a straight answer. S&W only made 900 or so 646 that were not performance center..... I have 2.....one that I shoot in ICORE, and goofing around with...I really like this gun and had purchased it for IDPA too but the new rules make it a poor choice as major loads really make it jump. The other has never been fired except by S&W and will stay that way as long as I own it.....maybe in 20 or 30 years I'll think about selling it. They quit the 610 last year, if you have one of the 4 inch guns they still have a few of the 6 inch barrels, you can change them out. Speed.....I don't see much difference in transitions betweem my 625 and 646 as it all boils down to the sights any way My suggestion....load up a bunch of 123,000 PF loads and shoot them in the 610, it won't even wiggle
  10. .92 draw .20 split, 1.89 reload .20 split...... Can do this pretty consitantly now. Revolver S&W 5 inch 625 in .45 ACP (Major PF) CR speed holster, California Comp moonclip holders (I reload right handed like Jerry Miculek) Hearthco moonclips. 4 Alpha, targets 10 yds away, arms relaxed by sides. Hopalong
  11. Spook, good to hear from you !!!! waiting on the world shoot to see how it all comes out !!! Carmoney, Like I said.... I don't have a 627........ a quicky on Randy's .25 average. we had 327 shots at the USPSA Nationals.....so we will go with a good number of 50 reloads in the match (likely a little less). 50 x .25 = 12.5 seconds If you took 12.5 seconds off your match score where would you have ended up? I think you (Carmoney) might have been 3rd but am only going by memory. I know D. Carden would have finished ahead of Cliff Walsh if he had 12.5 seconds removed from his score. I am not saying that Hearthco moonclips are the ONLY way to go, what I am saying is......If you don't mind spending the extra money they are another option out there that needs to be looked at. I personally will not be caught at a major match without them. Hopalong
  12. Paul, I don't have a 627 so I am giving you my experiences with 625,610, and 646 moons. I like most others got my first moons from Brownells, good price they do a good enough job.....I think they are Ranch Products but I have been wrong before. I want my rounds to fit tight in the moon clip to keep the bullet end from wobbling so much that they have to wobble around and then go in the cylinder holes, the Hearthco Moons are the tightest ones I have tried, they do allow a little wiggle but are way ahead of the "punched" out ones. If you get enough you can get them at 7 bucks apiece.....pretty salty if I should say so myself..... compared to Brownells. a standard S_I mag holds 18 rounds and runs you about 100 bucks....... 3 hearthco moons holding 18 rounds will run you 21 bucks Dave machines his they are not punch press made like some of the other moons that are also cheaper to buy. Hearthco moonclips will be IDENTICAL to each other (until you step on them) the only variable will be brass mfg tolerances. Hearthco moons come in two materials, Stainless steel and Spring steel... I have both and suggest the spring steel, it seems to be a little more durable. I still have a large handfull of Brownells moonclips, I use them to practice and at local matches to avoid stepping on the Hearthco clips, Like I said they do work and some poeple would rather have the wobble... to each his own. For me the Hearthco moonclips just help make reloading the revolver more consistant and that is what we are after, consitant reloads. FWIW Hopalng
  13. Heath, I had this problem too, use the same or just a little less grip pressure in the right hand.....Add 30% more grip pressure with the left hand.....make sure the left thumb is putting pressure on the gun and not just bouncing around along the frame. good luck with it, all grips are not the exact same but most are similar. Hopalong
  14. Way to go Kathy!!!!!! I can't seem to get my "Field course" on paper the way I see it in my head.... Lots easier to build and design stages "on the fly" at the range !!!! SAM
  15. Well it is one year older and for CliffWalsh NONE the Wiser !!!! and for RAZZ, MacTiger, TheOtherErik, and Don45cal. Happy birthday to you too !!!! I'm pretty sure ya'll are a little wiser though Hopalong
  16. Sounds good Jerry, only thing is ..... See you at Nationals next year !!!!! To be honest with you the funnest Nationals I have shot was the one where I did not think there was a chance in H**l for me to even have a go at class placement !!! Since then, I some how had this thing about wanting to do good.......... Nationals are what you make of them, as is any match. I have enjoyed the social aspect of these matches as much or more than the shooting for the last 2 or 3 years. Have fun with it, that is what it all started out as (supposedly). SAM Oh yeah, round nose bullets..... I used the Precision 165 grn when I used a 610 !!
  17. Jerry, Glad you enjoyed the match !!!! While on the bottom end of the learning curve of shooting myself I ran into my now shooting "buddy, coach, partner" ect. He was at the time on a 6 month break from "dedicated" shooting and had just made Limited GM and had been Open GM for a while, he also started shooting this stuff in the 70's. When you run into these guys that can make they type of gun you are shooting look really simple to shoot it does 2 things.... 1 Opens your eyes to what is possible (inspirational) 2 Shows you how much there is to do to get there (Humble pie to say the least) EVERYONE started this shooting stuff not knowing what to do, how to get the skills up and so forth. EVEN Dan, Jerry Miculek, Rob Leatham, Brian Enos....and the list goes on..... Getting to see a good shooter in the act does a person good, but can also be intimidating.... I know I have been there (and still am in more ways than 1) Revolvers are not that much different than autopistols, fun to shoot both... Go find you an accomplished auto pistol shooter and pick their brain.... Get Brians book, Get Steve Andersons Dry Fire book....Brians book is pretty deep, it may take several times through (will) to pick that stuff up. The biggest thing in Revolver shooting USPSA/IPSC is Stage breakdown, then maybe the reload..... talk with the good shooters in the club, get them to help with stage breakdown.... for them it is where to reload once or twice, for us it is to efficiently break a large stage into small stages to use the "6 shots" wisely. Keep at it, there are not many who have the dedication, stuborrness and desire to excell at this action pistol game with a revolver.... but the ones that do........ Hopalong / Sam Keen
  18. Jake, You DON'T want me to break out the OPEN 40 round blaster and be on the OTHER team !!!!!! Team Idea sounds good to me !!! who cares what division(s) are represented all should go by match points any way !!! (1 open, 1 prod, 1 L-10) if all 3 win thier respective divisions then they get 300 team match points.... pretty darn simple if you ask me !!!! SmittyFl was toying with the idea.....do a search quite a long post !!! Hopalong
  19. The Steel match screw up and a tight budget are making me think twice about the Fall classic, just may have to skip that trip Hard for a club to get over bad management at a match.. FWIW Hopalong
  20. I don't know about pistol bays having berms or not but for the Hi-Power Matches at Camp Perry they shoot into Lake Erie (or what ever little pond that is) HOP
  21. That is a millet rear sight on the 25..... Oh yeah he's been doing this for 1.5....I mean 15 years !!!!! Nice wheelie..... too bad it has never been used in the long 1.5 years he's been shooting !!!!! MR. CLEAN
  22. That 1 helper was Joy Heiden, from Arkansas. Joy is one of the much under appreciated, overworked people in our sport.... You will see Joy (and David) at USPSA Nationals, Area-4, Arkansas Anything, and who knows where. Joy and David are Class Acts, and Joy can really do STATS too !!! (That is what she did at A-4, Arkansas Everything, and USPSA Nationals). Thanks for all the Hard work Joy, and all other who deserve the extra "Thank YOU" Hopalong / Sam Keen
  23. Sorry to hear that Erik, I know Benny was looking forward to a rematch (and a few more of us) Still have room, entries coming in regularly now....... (in other words, Send yours in if you haven't) Great mix of skill tests, You folks will LOVE it !!! MGM targets have signed on as sponsors, as have STI Thanks go out to Mike at MGM and the bunch in Georgetown. Your gonna miss a good one Erik !!!! 5 weeks to go, see ya then. SAM
  24. Waltermitty, He's on the short list !!!! The range at Lakeland (Memphis) is now adding more bays, when done there will be enough room to have a good match with a good variety of stage size and type. They have hosted the Springfield steel challenge and shot 500+ shooters in 2 days !!! It will be up to you guys/gals out there to talk it up and get the interest up for this thing. Gonna be GOOD !!!! Hopalong
  25. They have a 6 1/2 inch non full lug.........Called a 25-2 Just wish they were still making them !!!!! HOP
