  1. One of the simple pleasures in life. Frigging unreal Mike T. Have you shot it yet ?
  2. From what I have only heard and read the Springfield 1911 in 9 mm is a good gun and I certainly would not be looking at the other two brands mentioned. As other posters have mentioned it would be good to know exactly what the issue is here ?
  3. I to are a C grade shooter and will average around 1.3 - 1.27 sec for first shot into A zone at 7 yards or so with 1911 when training, This is not what will get be to B grade though. Same as above getting all my hits, moving faster and more efficiently and working on the transitions. My splits are getting faster like my draws and yes they need to get faster but even though all these little areas add up my main areas I need to work on is as kneelingAtlas mentioned. Recent comp my failure to back up to Mikes cost me dearly.
  4. Save for the SVI that way you will never regret it but you will if you buy less and are considering the purchase. I only own a Sig and Colt. If I could afford an SVI single stack I would buy one. What's more the money I have already spent on tweaking my two 1911s would have paid for an SVI - you live once dude.
  5. Here are some pics, very grey pic was taken a few months ago and he still looked good. Others were taken when he was around 3 - 4 years of age. Yeah it gets easier and because I knew it was right this time it was much easier but still hard. I would trade this pain anytime to have the time with a dog like this again. It is part of that unwritten contract.
  6. Damn, it is quiet today. We bought all our houses primarily around the needs of the dogs. We automatically step around where his dog bed where used to be out of habit. Woke in the middle of the night and wanted to pat him but he is not there. You truly forget how much of your day and life is involved with them.
  7. Well the little warriors soul is now up playing with his brother on this warm sunny day, his body is currently on his dog bed on the front porch overlooking what he considered his domain. I feel strangely calm after this and it was the right thing to do, held him in my arms until his heart stopped and then some and my other half said he was smiling. He did not even growl at the vet today in fact he could not care less about this stranger. She commented on how much he had gone down hill since she saw him last thursday and how he was not even watching her. I timed this right and it does not make it easier but I kept my promise I made to him last night that I would end his suffering. I have dug a grave under is favorite tree with the associated roots to hack through and will bury him once Lee gets home so she can say goodbye to him. Thank you all for your words, prayers and thoughts RIP Thor you will never be forgotten!

    Sassy

I'm sorry for your loss and I know how hard this is.
  9. While I'm not crying I will share something with you guys about damned special this dog is and how I got to look after him for the last nine of his eleven years. My first german shepherd was Stein who was Thors brother. I had Stein from a eight week old pup and he was a machine. Two weeks before Steins 2nd birthday his eyes went from brown to jet black and his moods were like he was short circuiting, turned out he was having some sort of brain bleed and I made the really tough call to put him to sleep. He did not die easy and in the end the vet gave him the same dosage they give to put a horse to sleep - he took half an hour to die in my arms and I still cannot think about this. Three months later I received a phone call and was told that Thor had been ejected from the police as they could not handle him and that the current owner an ex police dog handler instructor was getting nailed by Thor when they corrected him so he was about to get put to sleep. Talk about fate here was a chance to own another dog who was not just similar to Stein but was his brother, I took him and yes I had some really hair raising times with him along the way given his propensity to fight and enjoy it. With consistency and fairness this dog became MY dream dog, totally fearless with incredibly high drive but at the same time he would lie up side down in my arms and just lick my face. If you google " luga Von Heisenberg" on you tube there are some clips of him. He is also my avatar. I already miss you my ltlle buddy and owe you so much for what you have taught me about patience, tolerance and unconditional love.
  10. Thanks Steve, he has just had his breakfast. Trying to stay really positive here not that easy.
  11. He cannot handle a general anesthetic at his stage of life, shocking night last night. Had him inside and he just kept lying beside me then getting up and trying to crawl under the bed - this dog has the heart of a lion and does deserve this. Today is the day, thank you all.
  12. Here I am trying to decide should I put my 11 year old German shepherd Thor to sleep. This has been on my mind for the last two weeks as he he cut his food intake by half back then. Took him to the vet last week and had his bloods done and they indicate he likely has a tumor. Softened his dry food up for him and he gulped his normal portion down, great all sorted until today where he ate very little again. He always sleeps inside with us at night on his dog bed, last night he kept getting off his bed and lying beside me and panting like it was the middle of summer - winter here in NZ. Same again tonight so have had to put outside in his run as he his panting like crazy again. I know what I need to do and owe it to him but it does not make it any easier, I put his brother to sleep nine years ago and we put our pointer Kaiser to sleep last year.

    The Knowing Mind

Mt avatar - Thor is a zen master! Dogs completely and utterly live in the now. When they miss something in a training exercise you do not see them stomping around with a pissed look on their faces. They just repeat and nail it and their confidence soars.
  14. Well have been doing some dry fire practice and need to do alot more however have started setting my pocket pro 2 par time at .70 with ipsc target at seven yards and are now getting the the 1911 out and aimed at the A zone consistently at .70. (this is not pressing the trigger and releasing the safety though) Happy with this however need to do more live fire work with this as my last one was at 1.27 into the A zone with a .45 hole right in the middle. I think I am waiting to see more than I actually need to when doing the live fire practice.
  15. I have no experience with the nine or forty however I have a .45 tacops. This thing is a beast it leaves my colt gold cup national match for dead. It feeds and extracts everything. The Sig magazines are superb and I have 8 of these which I also use in the colt. I replaced the sights with a bomar and f/o and had trigger reworked with egw parts including extended e trigger. I love this gun. The external extractor is faultless.
  16. I nearly died laughing my head off at that video, especially after a day at work in the pc government environment. I truly had a zen moment watching that. I do not collect gear yet but have two 1911's and want more, bit like doing stuff to the Harley - you do not need it but you must have it and it becomes and obsession and your focus is like a laser. Guess what before you know it you have it or more gear or whatever. Sorry this would have been no help at all.

  18. When I first started shooting dec 2012 there was some discussion that accessory rails could be allowed so I thought cool in I will go and buy a Sig 1911 Tacops. I then spent another large amount of money replacing sights, trigger and internals. It was after that it was confirmed that it was not legal because of the accessory rail. I live in N Z and there are not a large range of 1911s available and you need to take what you can get. I have a Colt Gold Cup NM which I compete with and it is a good gun but I shoot better with the Sig so if possible I would compete with that. I actually do not have an issue with other calibres being allowed as we need as many shooters in this division as possible hence I also think accessory rails should be permitted. I actually enjoy shooting against people with 9mm 10 rd mags as it makes things very interesting, I do not have an issue with any perceived advantage or not of the other calibres.
  19. I just use a Blackhawk Serpa which works fine, too many other aspects of my game need to speed up before my holster could ever hold me back.
  20. I am not concerned with the calibre so much it's more that I cannot shoot my favorite 1911, ha!
  21. I personally think it should be .45 only, no 9 or .40. Given that the Classic design was a .45 plus I own two 1911 and shoot I P SC SS however only my Colt is SS Classic legal as my Sig 1911 Tacops has an accessory rail on it but as far as I'm concerned that is still more classic than a 9 or .40 and to me it is a contradiction with the way they exclude accessory rails. Just my opinion and I would rather shoot my Sig if I could. Regardless of the rules however it is still a great division to shoot in and I would not shoot anything else.
  22. Pocket pro 2 for the reasons already covered including large display that can be read while on your belt.
  23. Yes I do, pretty basic set up though just three IPSC targets in the lounge spread at varying distances and height across. Draw and fire 2,2,2 from 1 - 12 yards, purely work on transitions with multiple shots and the same again while moving all the time. I'm getting Steve Andersons book in late August so will then have a lot more to work on this.
  24. I shot my last big comp in June and prior to this the last big comp was in April. I only shot live fire three times in that gap however I also started doing dry fire practice at the same time ( it actually works). Yes I would have shot a lot better if I had done more live fire practice however I walked away relatively happy with my performance. The dry fire has helped with my transitions and sight pictue on that first target from the draw. What cost me big time was my failure to back up three Mikes over two stages - live and learn.
