  1. Thanks John, have not been able to Chrono the 5.1 grain load yet but 5.3/5.4 will be by next testing load depending on how the 5.1 goes. The bullets I`m using are Best 230 gain LRN and they have some gold coating on them. Mike
  2. Sig 1911R TACOPS - fits in the price category and in my opinion you get alot of pistol for the money and not 1 but 4 magazines come with it !
  3. I have one of these since dec2011 and it is very accurate even more so when I'm doing everything right, I will never out shoot this gun. I intend to use it in SS later this year. Had no issues with it at all and the fact that it came with four mags was a real plus. The grip is narrow but Im now used to that - go ahead and buy one.
  4. Welcome Ryan, I`m another one of the apparent many kiwi's who frequent this site. I have only just started IPSC and only just got my holster qual so very new.
  5. Oal of 1.265. The 5.0 gr of Wsi 231 takes mv to around 730 which is still short so the next batch at 5.1 gr should do the job and get me past 740.
  6. 4.8 made major for me out of a 5 inch Gov't Model. It was soft shooting and accurate, a little dirtier than WST but not that bad. Thanks for that. i am shooting a 5 inch sig 1911 so will see how the new loads work out.
  7. Well finally chonographed my nice shooting load and using Best Bullets 230 grn LRN with 4.5 grn WSI 231 (Lee load manual shows 765 fps)the chrono was showing around the 650 fps mark which hits around 149-150 PF. No wonder it was nice shooting, anyway have done a batch using 4.8 grn and 5.0 grn which should be closer to the 170 PF. Will test these later this week. I needed the the practice anyway and its fun making these loads.
  8. Well been shooting for about a month now and the majority of my shots not all ( still managed the occasional good group) were hitting around the eight to nine o'clock position. I have a sig 1911 with night sights which makes seeing the target difficult as it has a thick front sight however this is no excuse. No matter what I tried the shots generally went left except when I stopped trying and just shot 'instinctively'. Went to the range this morning with the sole goal of moving my groups to the right and it happened not all mind you but a vast improvement. What I did differently was a slight grip change but the biggest part was releasing the trigger more smoothly after each shot. Anyway it is progress and I walked away happy! This Sig is my first handgun and in .45 with a 5lb trigger and that combined with the night sights leaves no room for user error. Just got the Brian Enos book for xmas as well.
  9. finally set up the Dillon RL550b yesterday and reloaded my first batch of ammo, quite pleased with myself to be honest. i had the help of a fellow club member who has shot nothing but .45 and his input was invaluable. Tested the ammo today in my Sig and shot a three shot group standing at 15 yards and was within 1.5 inch group then went out to the 20 yard mark and finally drilled one right through the centre of the 2 inch square piece of paper. The others were in the A zone but I was working on groups so was only happy with the last shot. loaded 100 rounds using 4.5 grn winchester 231, federal primers and cases with Best 230 LRN. loading books indicate MV of around 765 but I have yet to chronograph this load. At least I can now afford to keep shooting. Thanks all for your help in my other thread. The rounds fed without any issues whatsoever.
  10. " We are what we think, all that we are arises with out thoughts with our thoughts we create our world " I cannot remember who said this it may have been in one of Richard Bach's books.
  11. The Win 231 is on the way now along with the federal primers and 230 gn lrn and the Dilllon will arrive this week just in time for Xmas. thank you all for the input it was appreciated.
  12. thanks for that info, have ordered 230 gn lrn and have ws231 ordered so I should be able to then find a workable load. How do like the Tac Ops?
  13. Thanks for that I have ordered my dill on 550 b and are shooting a sig 1911 tacops with a 5 inch barrel, so are still setting everything up.
  14. Anybody using win 231 in .45 cap 230 lrn, about to purchase powder today ?
  15. Gidday all, just purchased a sig 1911 tacops here in NZ and plan to use it in single stack here next year. Also have ordered a Dillon RL550b. Question is what to reload for target work FMJ,LWSC ? 200 grain or 230 ? Ihave never reloaded before so are keen to learn. Any ideas or feedback would be most appreciated. The sig has a 5 inch barrel and is .45.
  16. Gidday all from NZ, I have just started shooting IPSC and have just purchased my first pistol and 1911. Sig Sauer 1911R Tacops .45 5 inch barrel. I have also ordered a Dillon RL550b as have now truely realized the soon to be staggering cost of shooting lots of .45 acp. Appears to be a ton of useful info here and I will post some questioin in the correct fields. Still have yet to work out what loads to handload and what will work with the Sig and whether to use FMJ or LWSC etc.
