  1. A box of Federal American Eagle .45 230 fmj of 50 costs around $55-$60.00 a box, so reloading is an absolute must.
  2. The guys in New Zealand pay anything up to $45 per hundred for pistol brass..... I reckon that by Kraj's measure they would be amongst most polite shooters one would be likely to find. $45 per HUNDRED!! Average price would be around $55-$60 NZ dollars for new pistol brass per 100.
  3. Am I reading this right - your best time on 7 plates from the holster was 0.08 seconds? This - 0.08 from the holster is smoking, hell I would be happy with an 0.80 draw from the holster onto paper ?
  4. I have a 3.5 lb trigger in my colt gold cup this is actually not bad, I have a 2.5 lb trigger in my sig tacops with a short reset. The sig trigger is fantastic however the colt one is fine. The sig was over 5lbs to start with and felt horrible.
  5. That is one exceptional looking 9mm!Given I've heard back from Matt Cheely, SVI and Akai Custom, I will be looking at one of these three. I will need to make a call early in the new year given build times etc and finances. All three appear to build excellent, accurate and reliable 1911s and have fantastic customer service. I'm still hopeful of tactical rails being approved for ipsc single stack so that I can shoot my Sig and sell the Colt.
  6. I have the same problem and I asked Larry Davidson to make some thicker than normal grips and that is exactly what he did. I also put in a S&A arched mainspring housing which helped as well.
  7. Sigs are seriously underrated and very good 1911s. They do apparently advertise a 9mm 1911 but I have never seen one.
  8. 45 is what I'm currently shooting and set up for and I'm to lazy to change plus already have two 1911's in 45. There is an Svi agent in Australia JPP Imports, Matt Cheely indicated from what I recall that he could assist with the export or maybe thats through an agent, Camerons I'm not sure about. Cheely was 10 month build time, length of build time is not an issue for me at this stage.
  9. The obsession is starting. I do not need a new 1911 for ipsc single stack however I want one and I want a custom one and I've been looking at Cheely Custom, Camerons and SVI. Other than the price spread across these three is there that big a difference in them all ? It will be a .45 of course and will continue to shoot the 230 grain rn.
  10. That is a stunning piece of work. Those new VZ grips will really finish it off once you get them on. You will have to of course let us know how it shoots as well.
  11. I was using w 231 with 230 grn lrn through my sig. 5.1 grn from memory and this load made major and was very accurate, plus soft shooting with the heavy Tacops.
  12. Thanks Sandbagger for that, it was surprising to me at least the substantial drop between the sig and the old colt barrel. That colt is accurate however and the Berrys shoot well. What are you shooting yours out of to get those figures ?
  13. Dave, you will not like the answer, assuming you are in the US. Serious Shooters, Auckland, New Zealand.
  14. WST all 13lbs has been ordered so we will see how it goes but I'm expecting great results with it.
  15. Thanks kind of what I was hoping to hear. I never had issues making major in my sig 1911 tacops but the early 1980s colt has been another story, infact I was chronoed at a recent big shoot and ended up being scored minor. Will never make that mistake again. Thanks for the info it is appreciated.
  16. I'm running out of 231 with no more in sight for a while but can get hold of wst. I'm loading .45 230 rn berrys for my Colt gold cup nm. I need to easily make major power factor and the old colt barrel is indeed old. Would wst be a good replacement ? My coal is at 1.265 but the colt is very accurate with this length. Also struggling to find accurate load data for plated berrys so any input would be appreciated.
  17. Well really struggling to make major with the berrys plated and my old early 1980 colt gold cup national match. Oal of 1.265 and 5.7 gr of wsi and only just hit 750 fps which makes major but the majority where in around 720 fps. These loads are very accurate with this oal so do I either bump them up to 5.9 of 231 with the berrys plated 230 or do I reduce the loads and oal ? I really think at 5.9 I should be fine and at 5.7 of 231 there were no indications of pressure issues , I know my oal is long but it works well in my colt and is accurate so I would prefer to just increase to 5.9. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  18. I never knew another calibre even existed other than .45. I have learned something today. I'm still sure however that there is no other gun other than a 1911 ?
  19. There are 230 gr plated berry s I'm using which I believe should be loaded somewhere between lead and fmj.
  20. Well the other chrono is playing up so I'm going to go with 5.4 gr of 231 and will hope they make major which they should even in th old colt barrel. I tried 5 rds today of 5.5 gr 231 and they were really nice and snappy but felt a little on the hot side but nothing like the federal ae I shot off last week which are around the 850 fps mark according to the packet anyway.
  21. I have lost 100fps by going from my 5 inch sig and lead round nose to using my old 5 inch colt and Berrys plated. I was surprised by how much I lost.
  22. Had not chronoed any loads for a very long time and have a big shoot coming up. Lucky I did, I'm shooting a colt gold cup at the moment and now using berrys plated 230 grain same coal and 5.1 g of 231. Average of 650 fps and need 740 from memory to make major - big drop changing from the sig and to plated from lrn. Just brewing up a batch using 5.4 of 231 which should do the trick ??
  23. That is beautiful. Thank you for that - now i want another 1911.
  24. The first hand gun I ever shot was an ss .45, I now own two of them. As a Matt stated it teaches you everything - and shooting a ss well is a very cool feeling especially a .45!
