  1. I am trying to figure out how to purchase your revo for my 11 year old who loves revo's.  I will get back to you tomorrow.

  2. Please say the big match is back!! The Tyler clan missed our trip south this year.
  3. I know it it early but I have a busy schedule and I was wondering if anyone knows when the US Steel match, World Steel match or any other big steel matches might be scheduled? Thanks Keith Tyler Firearms Instruction
  4. YES! Springer Precision assures me they are being turned as I right this. I am waiting for mine also.
  5. I have ran 95 gr and 105 gr bullets in both my open steel gun and my limited steel gun (Single stack 1911). The guns just were not as reliable with the light bullets as it was with 124gr bullets. One thing I personally found with the really light bullets is they did not give a very good visual que of a hit on non falling plates. The other problem I had with shooting the really light bullets in my open steel gun was the rounds were loud even though they were only making 117 PF and they were very fast. My electronic hearing protection was still shut down when the bullets impacted the steel. So....we have 3 confirmations of a hit; sight lifting from the impact area at the start of recoil, followed by audible impact that we hear as we are transitioning to the next plate and the visual impact of the round hitting the steel, (which we rarely see but the RO's d) I played a whole season with the pocket rockets and I now shoot 124/125 gr bullets. The guns run better, I can hear the hit way better and can see a bigger splatter on the plates. I took top 4, 2 years in a row at the Briley West Coast Steel Championships. While chatting with the other top shooters, I learned they didn't really car about "light loads", it was about reliability. Hope this helps Keith Tyler Tyler Firearms Instruction
  6. It will fit just about anything with all the different spacers that come with it.  I did fit it to a STI open gun.  I know I will fit a limited and single stack because my son uses one currently on his set up.  Hope this helps

  7. Ramshot comp is reverse temperature sensitive. So hot outside but slower it gets. Example last week chronographed as soon as I got to the range. 3.6 great with a 124 bayou bullet came out at 130pf. Left the ammo out in the sun for a few hours and chrono before I left with a temperature of 85 degrees. Same load came in at 120 pf . In my 45 I generally go up .2 grains in the summer. Just my thoughts and experience hope it helps
  8. I bought an MBX 170 for my 9 major which I load to 1.170. I can get 29 loaded in the mag. IT runs but at the end of the stage or that mag, there is round under the follower bouncing around in the spring. Thankfully that pistol still ran but that's not right. Any easy fix out there. Thanks. Keith
  9. UPDATE OK, I have settled on a load for both the limited and open steel guns OPEN 6.2 gr of HS-6 with a 105 grain bayou bullet col 1.090 comes out to a 121 power factor and the gun runs flawless. IT a little dirty but it works Limited 3.5 gr of Ramshot comp, 105 grain bayou bullet col 1.090 comes out to a 117 power factor and it runs I know many don't care about steel loads but I wanted to post my findings so if someone is looking for it they have a place to start with. Shoot straight Keith Tyler Firearms Instruction.net
  10. Ok here goes range day #1 with load development. Springfield Armory Range Officer converted to an open steel gun built by JPL Precision. The slide is lightened up a lot and the upper is cut down to 4.5 inches. Once I narrow down my loads then I will play with springs. I also have a iron sight version I will be working loads up for but one at a time. 105 gr Bayou bullets CCI small pistol primer Winchester Auto Comp col1.100 5.0 vel 1056 PF 110 won't cycle the gun fully 5.5 vel 1188 PF 124 6.0 vel 1288 PF 135 6.5 vel 1352 PF 141 7.0 vel 1511 PF 158 95 Gr Bayou bullets CCI small pistol primer Winchester Auto Comp COL 1.040 5.0 vel 1059 PF 100 won't cycle the gun 5.5 vel 1169 PF 111 fun to shoot but brass is barely coming out and the slide is not fully cycling 6.0 vel 1300 PF 123 6.5 vel 1305 Extreme spead problem 7.0 vel 1548 PF 147 105 gr Bayou bullets CCI small pistol primer HS6 6.0 vel1081 PF 113 6.5 vel 1157 PF 121 7.0 vel 1278 PF 134 95 gr Bayou bullets CCI small pistol primer HS6 6.0 vel 1061 PF 100 would not cycle the pistol 6.5 vel 1172 PF 111 7.0 vel 1299 PF 123 From looking at video and the chrono I will figure out my favorite loads and head to the range next week with some new ammo to test. Much to my surprise, the 95 grain bullet and the 105 grain bullets both shot about 1.5 to 2 inches at 18 yards. I will continue to post data so other have a place to start from.
  11. I have searched but I have not found. I am looking for a good starting place to work up a load using the bayou 95 gr bullets or 105 for my open steel gun. open gun is a 4.5 inch 1911 with a 3 port comp. I have auto comp and silhouette on hand. I am new to working up minor stuff since I usually shoot major 9. I already have a 105gr bullet load for my iron sight gun but ramshot comp is too fast and not enough gas for the open gun comp. If anyone has complete data great but if anyone can offer a safe starting point that would be awesome. Once I have data to post I will share what I learn. I am hoping to be in the 1200 fps range to give me a 115 PF. Slower if I can get the comp to work. Thanks for you help Keith Tyler Firearms Instruction
  12. I recently worked up a load using 105 gr bayou bullets to be used in my limited steel gun. Very soft and accurate enough for steel. There were shooting about 2 inches at 20 yards off hand. I posted the load data on the reloading section. I am using Ramshot comp powder. Came in at 106 PF Keith
  13. I have been working up some loads with Bayou Bullets and Ramshot Comp for 9 minor and steel challenge. Just thought I would share what I learned. All the data is with Ramshot comp as a powder, CCI small pistol primers, bayou bullets and range brass. temp was about 70 degrees. All fired out of a Springfield Armory RO in 9mm charge Bullet Vel Extreme spread COL power factor accuracy 3.3 gr 147gr bullet 927 29 1.125 136 1-2 inches at 18 off hand 3.1 gr 147gr 905 26 1.125 133 same 3.5 gr 135 gr 980 39 1.110 132 2-3 inches 3.8 gr 124gr RN 1036 17 1.145 128.5 1-2 inches 3.8 gr 124gr TCG 1028 29 1.100 128 1 inch Steel challenge loads. 3.3 gr 105gr 1010 46 1.095 106 1-2 inches mouse farts. Functioned in the pistol with a 10lb spring. Same spring I used with the other loads. As far as feel, I did not like the 147 gr. Gun is too sluggish. I loved the 124 gr TCG. Gun shot great, accurate and the sights came back faster. Much to my surprise my 11 year old also liked the 124's better. I hope this helps someone out there. 14. I am getting ready to build a 9mm open upper for shooting steel. I am going to use the stock Springfield RO for limited and I won a Caspian slide recently at the Briley's West Coast Steel match and I plan on having it lightened and mount an optic on the slide. Leaning toward the RMR right now. Any suggestions on that part would be great. I am at a loss for what the best comp set up is. Aluminum , titanium, steel.....2 port 3port ect. Looking to use 105 gr bayou bullets with autocomp , I have shot open for years and I am familiar with how to set up those pistols but steel is a different game. If there is anyone that would mind sharing their set up they use and tell me why you settled on it I would really appreciated it. Thanks Keith
  15. I have been shooting USPSA for 23 years and recently got the whole family into shooting steel. I won a Marvel #1 and a Caspian slide of the table at the Briley's West Cost Steel Championship. I also recently purchased a Springfield RO in 9mm to be used by my son in uspsa single stack pistol and for me to use as my limited steel gun. (Of course change springs and loads). I am not new to shooting with optics I am a GM in open using my JPL Precision 9 major 2011 with a Cmore serendipity, so I am familiar with the benefits of a frame mounted optic. I love the serendipity set up but I am also LE and carry an iron sighted 1911 for work which is why I am concentrating on single stack for USPSA now. After playing with some slide mounted optics at the match this past week, I really like them and for me finding the dot was effortless. BUT.....I need something that is reliable. I can not afford to travel 1000 miles to a match and have my equipment go down. I'm thinking of having the Caspian slide carved up by JPL Precision, fit it to my RO and would like to mount a optic on the slide and put the same optic on the Marvel upper. My thinking is: same frame, same trigger and same presentation to the target. The slide mounted optic also allows me to use my Garrett Industries Silent Thunder Champion holster, which is nice because they sponsor me for USPSA. Is this a good plan? why or why not If it is a good idea, which optic seems to be holding up the best. Remember this is a steel gun. If I was shooting Pro-Am I would load up to 130, but the majority of the time I would be running sub minor loads. Keith Tyler www.tylerfirearmsinstruction.net
  16. Wow! Thanks for all the praise, I really am flattered. I have enjoyed researching, testing and putting together these current training classes. The pay off is hearing your comments and watching my students match performance just take off. Keep up the hard work. As long as students are interested in classes, I will keep holding them. Keith
