  1. Thanks guys, Paperkiller, as for whats next......spend the next 12 years training my son to do the same:)
  2. I just had to blow my own horn. Just checked the USPSA web site and its offical, I made GM in open. I've been shooting IPSC for about 12 years but just started shooting open about 2 years ago. I may never win a nationals but I achieved a goal that I started out on 12 years ago. To say I am jazzed would be an understatement. A big "thank you" to all the shooters over the years for taking the time to help me learn and grow as a shooter and person. Thank you Brian for taking the time out of your range day way back in 95 at the Desert Classic to answer questions and help along a newer shooter. a early Merry Christmas to you all Ktyler
  3. Congrats Brian, glad to see the classifier helped you also. I decided to through the open gun in the bag to shoot this classifier. If the Ohio site is right I nailed it, 4.71 down 3 points HF of 12.1 getting me a 100% and moving me to grandmaster. Finally made it. Ktyler
  4. This may come as a surprise, but open shooters rarely, if ever meet SAAMI spec with there ammo. Most of us are way above "max load". When I read your post I was surprised anyone besides Corbon made major. You migh try finding a local commercial reloader to load some ammo to your spec. Just make sure they follow you receipt. If you have a local shooter with the reloading gear you need, ask a shooting buddy to lend you a hand and get you started. There is a guy in Oregon that will load super to major and sell the ammo, I just can't remember his name....maybe one of your local shooters will remember and post the info for you. Shoot well, Ktyler
  5. Greetings fellow Mongoose shooters, I am looking to see what you all have tried and are currently shooting. I have been using True Blue and have tried Power Pistol. I am looking for something cleaner and with less of pressure spike than TB. I am also to cheap to purchase Vitv. After shooting a friends open gun I realized how much dot movement I was having. Now startes the quest for a better powder. Sound off with your experience and reasons why you like one over the other. Also, have any of you tired a recoil master in your gun? curious if they work well or not. Ktyler
  6. After shooting a recent local "tactical" match I have really come to like shooting sports that; have walk throughs that are written out so all understand what is being asked, established rules that are applied equally to all shooters and rules that govern course design. This not a jab at the larger established "out law" matches. It is more about me venting about a bad experience. Lawdawg and I both left with a very sour taste in our mouths. Its too bad some hate IPSC so much they don't try to take the good from it to help improve their matchs. When I kept hearing these "Tactical guys" tell me IPSC has too many rules I asked them for an explanation. The responses I got were not well thought out. Most common was they didn't like all the penalties in IPSC shooting. I started to explain the reason but within a few words realized I need to save my breath. Trying to tell them most of the rules are for safety or to ensure that each shooters gets a chance at the same course of fire would have fell on deaf ears. Like IPSC courses, each course of fire at this match presented a differnt problem to be solved. The funnest thing I saw at this match occured on a free style field course (the only one). None of them knew how to shoot the course. They expected the course designer (me) to tell them exaxtly how to shot it step by step. I looked at them and told them, "here is the start box, on the signal engage all the targets as they become visable while you use cover". The blank stares where priceless. I mentioned to one of the IPSC bashers, "No IPSC shooter would have to be told how to run his gun through a course of fire". OK the rant is over and I feel a little better. Will I go back and shoot this match again.....maybe. Does it have a place in the shooting sports? Sure some like shooting it and it makes me appericiate the rules we share in our more organized shooting sports. I almost feel better......I think some Jameson on the rocks might help the mental scars heal. Ktyler
  7. Does anyone have experience with using once fired Magtech brass loaded to 9 major. I did a search, lot on 40 brass but not on 9 major. Any input is welcomed Ktyler
  8. I have tried them and have friends that shoot them. We have all noticed the sizing and weight was not very consistant which lead to others going minor at matchs. This was a few years ago so they might have tightened up their quality control. Just my 2C Ktyler
  9. What a fun match with great competitors. A big thanks and job well done to Mike McCarter and staff for putting on another great SS match. I was surprised I remembered how to do reloads after shooting open for the past year. Not very ofter do you go to a match and find there are 4 A class shooters and 9 masters/GM. Great competition this year with lots of courses daring you to speed up. Next year maybe we will see even more shooters shooting single stacks....yes this includes you Chuck. Ktyler
  10. Boo, No IDPA or PPC for me LOL. I have been shooting IPSC since 93. I am a master in L-10 and Open. Besides having a lot of experience in IPSC I also have a instructor/teaching background. I am a firearms instructor for Vancouver PD and a field training officer, with that I have been to the Washington State, FBI and NRA's instructor schools as well as teaching matial arts while I was in college. I don't believe in tricks or just being fast. I believe you must master the fundementals then apply them, speed is just a by product. All that and $5 will get me a coffee here in the northwest. Ktyler
  11. Ok LEO's and tactical rifle shooters gimme some advise. My departments policy is 1.5 power or lower for patrol rifles. My first generation aimpoint is about dead so I am in the market for some new optics. I like the aimpoint but I am wondering if the acog TA44's might be a better choice or if I stay with a 1x, the trijicon tripower looks interesting. I've had the chance to use a TA44-2 but I have never seen a tripower. If money was not an issue which one would you buy? and which one if money was an issue. Thanks for the help, KTyler
  12. Nope, no web site. But if anyone would like to get more information just email me clantyler@comcast.net I would be more than happy to answer any questions. Ktyler
  13. Thanks Tom for the kind words. I'm glad you learned a lot and at the same time had a good time. Keep up the hard work and apply the fundementals and it will happen. Ktyler
  14. oooops, I shouldn't type that late at night. My bad 5.9 53 points 8.98 HF forgive me for I am a product of public education. Ktyler
  15. Shot this little beauty a few weeks ago. I stayed in the boxs for all rounds fired. Left side, right side then moved up and took the poppers on the rigth side. I remember nothing about shooting the stage. I was truely in the bubble and preforming without thougth. (not that I am often accused of thinking) Way cool. open 5.9 time 58 points 9.83 HF I hope it comes in at 100% and gets me one step closer to GM Ktyler
  16. I plan on being there. Its been a great match in the past. I just hope you guys take it easy on me this year and give a guy a chance. Ktyler
  17. My Cmore is not holding zero. I shoot a nice group, but its 3 inches low and 3 to the left at 15 yards. I re-sight in my scope and shoot a group point of aim-point of impact. Turn off scope and put the pistol back in shooting bag. When I pick it back up and turn on the scope, it shoots about 4 inches left and about 3 inches low. I re-zero again and put it back in the bag. When I got it back out, 3 inches low, 3 to the left. This pattern went on for about 7 -10 groups. The mount is solid and so is the diode. Everything is tight. Is the diode bad? It only about 4 months old with less than 3,000 rounds. Will Cmore take care of the problem? Ktyler
  18. ED I haven't shot much out of the western WA/OR area with the load so I am not sure about temp. At the low temps it has been working well. Haven't tried the hot stuff yet. Ktyler
  19. Another powder you might try is Ramshot TAC. I have been using it for 2 years now and love it. Getting sub MOA at 100, 200 and 300 yards using 68 gr match bullets through my 20" JP. The powder meters really well on my Dillon. If you want the load work up let me know and I'll see if I can unbury it form the bench. Ktyler
  20. I am looking for an area 1 registration form, if anyone knows were to find one (besides in my missing Front Sight) please let me know. ktyler
  21. John I recently watched Matt's videos and realized I do it the same way he demos. I experimented with both to figure out why I did it that way. What I learned if moving right and put my right foot in first: -had a tendency to over shoot the box, couldn't absorb the speed well enough -the foot would slide causing me to lose balance (Mostly gravel bays around here) -my set up was slower because the sights were moving around more What I learned if moving right and put my left foot in first: -I had a lot more control/balance -my entry foot never slid out from underneath me -My set ups were better/smoother -I could run harder at the box because I was able to bleed/absorb the speed better Either way might work better for some, but this is what I found after trying both Ktyler
  22. Cops are a very loyal group and if they view someones comments or views as anti-police, they will often choise to take there business else were. Same reason informed cops don't buy Paul Newmans products, or Ben and Jerry's Icecream. The FOP has put out a list in the past of anti/not police freindly business and I choice not to buy from those named. Same reason many shooters don't buy Nike products, they dumped a large amount of money a few years ago into the anti-gun campain.
  23. Being a LEO, Field Training officer and Firearms instructor I get asked the question "what do I do if I carrying and I get contacted by the police" Do what ever you are told to do by the officers. We train officer who are off duty or plain clothes to do the same. Follow the instructions of the responding officer. He/she doesn't know you from Adam, he has no idea what any ones intention is and is under enough stress already. Now is not the time to argue with the police. Just telling an officer you have CCW doens't mean you mean him no harm. I have arrested many documented gang bangers who were carrying legal and even had a CCW. I have had this happen to me while responding to calls before and I can tell you from experience as an officer I can not afford the luxtury of assuming what someone intent is. Cops get ambushed and killed at rate of about 9-14 officers a year. Just telling an officer you have CCW doens't mean you are meaning him no harm. If you haven't gone for a ride-a-long with a busy police department, I would highly encourage it. You will see things from a very different perspective. Having said all this, I am all for private carry laws and will protect the rights of citizen to do so. K Tyler
