  1. When I had my SLP every year I tore it down for a real serious cleaning and replaced all the springs. Only way to keep it reliable. All the springs were under $20 from Brownells.
  2. When I was shooting a SLP, I replaced the springs yearly. Was cheap insurance to keep it running.
  3. I need to shim my stock for a bit more drop. For RH shooter do I us the C65-DX to the top when installed?
  4. What shells are you using? I can get 10 Winchester AA's in mine, but only 9 Remington's
  5. Thanks, I've learned a lot of neat tricks here. Been dry firing for at least 2 hours every evening, 2 minutes dry fire 8 minutes rest then start over. Seen major improvements all ready
  6. I use the custom made ear plugs. I sometimes wear muffs and plugs when S.O. due to the comps and that isn't very often. I bought some Surefire plugs, didn't really like them, way too load.
  7. I have my spring at 10" over. Can get 10 Winchester AA in with maybe a 1/4" extra, but others are a real fight. With my Remington dummy rounds 10 has no extra clearance.
  8. Safariland ELS is a good start. I'd get the Safariland ALS holster. DQ'ed a guy yesterday for a dropped loaded handgun, fell out of a cheap Springfield holster. Mag holders I just use Bladetech's. For shot shell caddies look at the Invictus Practical. I just ordered a 2.8 holds 8 rounds and you can load2 or quad load from it. Price includes a Safariland or Bladetech mount for quick removal. I don't like anything quick removal for a holster, most aren't strong enough to handle a loaded handgun over a period of time. Also don't want to drop your handgun even in a holster
  9. What is the cardboard trick for striker guns? Racking the slide seems self defeating. I found my two biggest problem was I was not having my support hand provide the support and the front sight moving low left when pulling the trigger.
  10. When you dry fire, do you all rack the slide to get a trigger press, or just press the trigger each time your sights are aligned?
  11. how can you tell when the magazine were made? no serial number, no date of mfg. so how can law enforement tell you have illegal magazines? Don't want to get caught with Pmags, Cproducts, Lancers, Surefires. Also no handgun mags for a gun introduced after 2000.
  12. The Stag 3G is a great rifle to start out shooting with. Two options is buy the whole rifle, but if you don't like the stock and/or trigger. Just buy the upper and swap the comp. Then build a lower with the stock and trigger you like. Then add your optics for what ever range your local matches are. On one other note, do not sell your Edge,(unless it's a extra just laying around). Even the 40 cal Edge makes one of the best 3 gun pistols you can shoot.
  13. Thanks, wanting on a few more parts then will try out my new upper.
  14. What is the best orientation to time a Rolling Thunder comp? Thanks Don
  15. When cutting stuff like carbon fiber keep it wet and it keeps most of it contained. Good idea to wear a mask but nothing really fancy. I used to machine a lot of really nasty materials (beryllium/low grade uranium) you don't want to breath. Machined pretty much everything in a flood of coolant. We wore some pretty exotic masks and had an air flow coming from behind us.
  16. There are some cast lowers out there. Olympic made cast lowers at one time, so did Hydra-Matic (GM). Olympics looked OK, but Hydra-Matic look real crude.
  17. If nothing else, Burris stands behind the product. Years ago had a new XTR and whatever projects the red dot up came loose sighting it in. Burris offered to next day me another scope. With a return label for the first scope. You can't beat that.
  18. I never heard of Stag or JP until looking into 3gun. I don't think I am going to go with Daniel but I think you guys have made a good case for buying a 3gun ready rifle such as the Stag and Colt. If I go that route I could afford better optics. Right now I have an new Mtac 1 to 4. Its nice but I want to step up a bit. I wish I could get my hands on a Stag 3g. I can get a Noveske or a JP for about 2k and change or I can get a Colt Competition rife in 18" or a Stag 3g and spend the extra on optics. My shotgun is a Rem VersaMax tactical. My pistol was just changed form a Glock 34 to an all black FNS Long Slide in 9mm ( would like to NiBo the side and barrel). I upgraded the sights to Sevigny fiber optic sights. Is there a big reason that most shooters don't use the SCAR in 556? Get a Stag 3 gun, Stag has been around at least 10 years. The guy that owns it, his dad is one of the largest manufacturer of uppers/lowers I think it Continental Machine. Local shop (GDS in Austin TX) had Stag 3 Gun uppers for $799 ready to drop on your lower. There is nothing wrong with a MTAC starting out, after some matches you might want to step up to a Razor 1-6. Until then spend the money on ammo and practice.
  19. ASA used to be pretty squirrelly, poorly made cheap parts for the most part put together by idiots. The old owner Bob was a real piece of work. The stories about Bob at ASA are funny as hell, if you're not on a receiving end of them. The new owner is a guy that owned a pretty high end machine shop in the Phoenix area, why he bought the name ASA is beyond me. I would have rather started my own name rather than buying a name that was a joke. I THINK now ASA is a pretty good product, but for saving a few bucks not worth it over a known commodity like JP.
  20. We don't need a governing body per say, but there should be some agreement on especially equipment so you don't need 2-3 of each type of gun to be competitive.
  21. Was a scope issue, downloaded and read the manual on the scope from Leupold. Showed how to bypass the zero stop and adjust the elevation. Heading to the range at 7 AM tomorrow to zero it in correctly. Thanks for getting me on the right track guys.
  22. Does anyone else have a Mark 4 Leupold? Could you check the amount the elevation knob turns though it's entire range? Mine is only 1/2 a turn, however the windage is 2 turns though it's range. I think I may have a scope problem.
  23. I would recommend either buy an M2 and add a extension or buy the Beretta 1301 and add the extension. After you shoot 6-10 matches figure out what other modification you want/need done. Stay away from real cheap crappy ammo for matches until you know real well how it runs. The WalMart white box Winchester bulk packs are crap. Instead of $5.50 a box for the white box junk I run the Winchester AA target loads they are around $7.99 a box. For everything else you spend to shoot a match the $2.50 a box saved on crap shotgun ammo is just plain stupid.
