    Glock 34 mods

+1 on the Vanek Trigger. I love mine! My apologies on my lack of knowledge of rules in 3 gun, but I have a Dawson Heavy Ice Magwell on mine and it is great. I added a tungsten guide ride and a 13lb recoil spring.. but not sure it makes a big difference. Agree on that you need to find some sights you like. I have 3dot Trijicon on mine and they work well.
  2. Nice work on your 35! I am building a 17 right now for open. I am in a similar situation, I have been shooting iron sights for the past 9 months or so, but I really enjoy shooting my .22 open. One aspect to look out for is your recoil springs you are using. Based on the changes, you may need to tweak your springs to get your 35 to run "smooth". Good luck and let us know how it goes!
  3. What is interesting.. my kimber 1911 out of the box seemed to be more accurate that my G34. I realized that the size of the frame with my smaller hands needed some practice. Now, I can shoot both about equally well. Some mods to my 34 certainly helped IMO.
  4. I have a BarSto on order for my 34 that should be delivered by Santa. Based on the feedback, I look forward to having it fitted and take it out to the range!
  5. Welcome back! I grew up in upstate NY, outside of the freezing cold/snow, taxes, and gun laws, it is a great place to live during the summer:) I started out with 1911s and a friend of mine introduced me to Glocks just over a year ago and I love them.
  6. Congrats, good for you! I was doing well in a Steel Match and shot my best time with my .22 open ... I thought I had it but Sevigny and a couple others showed up. Oh well Steve
  7. My 2 cents is buy another gun in case you get tired of buying ammo for the .40 you can sell the whole gun. The RTF2 frames are the same for a 17/22/34/35 so you should not have any issues there. You may get into trouble if you buy a gen4 and try to put that slide on a gen3.
  8. Nice setup. I am waiting on Santa to bring me a cmore for my unit#1. I wish Marvel made a slide racker, anyone hear of one that would work? Steve
  9. I did the search and where I ended up is trying both tripod and Wilson ETM. The Wilson are very tight to get the last two rounds in. I called Wilson to see if they had a speed loader and their tech laughed. He said leave them loaded for a weekend before a shoot and they are still tight. They have run 100%. The tripod mags were backordered for 2-3 months, bit they have run flawlessly. They are a little bit easier on the thumbs. You will be happy with either one.
  10. Mark, What is the name of the gun club in Columbus? I live in McDonough and I am thinking of checking it out this weekend. Do you know if they are shooting this Saturday? Thanks in advance Steve I'm thinking Mark was referring to East Alabama Gun Club. http://eastalabamagunclub.com/ Thanks, I sent him a PM. A bit of a drive.. but the inlaws are in town this week. Might have to make this one! Steve
  11. All, I have been thinking about heading into the world of open guns. Thank you for the quality information, it is very helpful. Steve
  12. Not sure if this email is still active, talked to them a couple months ago on it: pistolsmith@GlockJockey.com Steve

    Open G17

Try a reduced spring. Odd things happen when you add weight and comps..etc. SJC has a 10lb spring for ~$12 that they put in their 9mm open guns. I had a similar issue with a limited gun, took the spring weight down and worked like a champ. Steve
  15. I second the Vaneck Trigger, I have the super trigger kit and it is worth the$. Until I get the Mrs. to let me spring for a second.. I ordered a Zev Tech V4 Race Connector and ZEV Tech Competition Spring Kit for another Glock. This cost me $24 with shipping and it is in the 2.5-3.0 pound range. There is still pretravel in the trigger, but it breaks a lot cleaner than factory. May be worth a shot.
  16. Kirk, I think you will find a variety of opinions on this subject, I know I did when I started to ask around. If you plan to keep the gun "forever" I would recommend a stiple job. For me, I find it important to try one out before putting the $ into the modification.. Since I have not seen too many people effectively add plastic back on . I have not been brave enough to try it out. What I have done on my latest 34 is take a RTF2 frame and put the 34 upper on it and I absolutely love it. For me, I have smaller hands and the rtf2 texture lets me hold onto the gun more. I have tried the gen4 with the smaller grip and it is nice, but I still prefer the rtf2. This may be another option, but it may cost you a bit more, but I knew what I liked and I am glad I swapped frames. Good luck! Steve
  17. Thanks, I appreciate the invite. I may take you up on your offer. I have lived in the area for a couple of years and there are a lot of great people in the shooting sports in the area. Thanks again! Steve
  18. Pizzim, When they lower the ejection port, do they refinish the area that they cut the metal from or does it look OK without it?
  19. Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. I live just south of Atlanta. I am a trapshooter that has recently moved into the handgun side of things. Lately I have been shooting steel plate matches and I can't get enough of it. Look forward to learning from the group and hopefully I can contribute on occassion. Steve
  20. I have a couple rtf2 17s, 19, and a 34 that I bought a Rtf2 frame for. I love the feel. I have smaller hands and until thegen4 came out the other gen guns were tough to hang on to. I would not recommend carrying them though. I would recommend shooting one before you buy. There is not a lot of in between on the opinions of the texture, people either love them or hate them.
  21. Matt, In addition to what is posted, take out the connector and make sure it is truly a 3.5lb. I bought a lightly used 34 myself and they swapped connectors. You can tell if it is a 3.5lb connector if you see a "-" on it. This may be why it seems a bit heavier.
  22. Nice. Does SJC make the top part of the mount or is this something you added? If you don't mind me asking, did you install yourself or did you have a gunsmith do it for you? I believe there needs to be a whole drilled in the frame. I am not sure I am that brave. Appreciate the input.
  23. Yes, I am. I had issues with the poly mag that came with the gun. You can usually find them on sale at Midway for $16.99 or so. IMO it would be worth getting one and trying it out. I tried 4 other types of mags and my problems went away when I used the Kimber ones. Good luck and let me know how it works.
