  1. I agree w/ Mark: Tanfoglio. Both of these guns are difficult to obtain here in the USA so I take they are for use in IPSC & not uspsa? What country? BTW, the excellent Tanfoglio line here in the USA has taken another hit with "EAA" deciding to drop import/sales/support of the the steel framed Tanfoglios & sell only the polymer framed guns. Sad really.
  2. Another vote for "leave revolver division as-is." First, there is the possibility of migratory IDPA shooters disgruntled at the possible inclusion of 8 shooters in some IDPA division (the "new" IDPA rules are not final yet folks & Bill Wilson appears set to issue another set of rules in February. Anything is possible come next month). Second, there are other sports that emphasize the revolver (ICORE & PPC) & I think we ought to maintain a division where shooters can come to USPSA with their equipment & give it a try without feeling totally "outgunned" Finally, most shooters in the US think of a "six shooter" as well, a six shooter. The 7 & 8 shot revolvers are just not what I think of when I think of revolvers (particularly practical revolvers). It must have been a sad day for some owners of 8 shot revolvers when USPSA limited revolver to 6 rounds between reloads but what is done is done & I think revolver should stay just as it is. BTW, my opinion is as valid as any regardless of what I shoot. Just so happens I ocasioanly shoot a 625 (& I used to shoot it in IDPA, but I will not be buying special IDPA competition gear just to keep shooting that game if the rules stay as is). We will see what happens in February. Regards, Douglas
  3. "Due to Civil unrest . . . , It's not a good idea to have civilians running around with guns." Most unfortunate. As for the excuse of "civil unrest", that is exactly the time when civilians SHOULD be running around with guns in my opinion. Sure, the government would provide the patronizing response: "There could be an accident & the army could shoot you!" - which sounds to me a bit like: "you could shoot your eye out!". I prefer to take care of my own, thanks. Has the world learned nothing from the formation of the United States, our second amendment, the LA riots, etc. etc.?!?! Pity.
  4. Rhino wrote: "They were leaving the factory with the front sight tower improperly indexed. I had to send mine back to the factory to get it fixed." That mirrors my friend's exact experience in 2004. THe shop where he bought it first swapped out carry handles. Same results. After the complete rifle returned from the factory, the problem was fixed free of charge. I'd return it under warranty. If its not under warranty and if you have receiver blocks & the wrench, try shimming the barrel index pin to the left-most position.
  5. Krang - welcome. The gun you have right now is a fine gun to start with. No need to buy a new gun. The critical thing is this: get yourself to a match asap even if its only to watch once before you shoot. ANd as Rhino points out, find a "strong side" holster (right hip holster if you are a righty) for your new .45 and two extra mags, plus a double mag holder, and you are all set. Again, the critical thing is to get out there & start shooting. Everything else will become clear in time. Regards, D. www.shootersparadise.com
  6. From the replies, you are looking for shot. If you also want bargain slugs, then try German Sheonbeck slugs marketed in the USA by Wolf (and at the typical low Wolf price). PMC makes low recoil buck shot that was on sale at Natchez recently for $1.50.
  7. Duane wrote an article describing Hodgdon's "ejecta test" of Titegroup loaded in .40. Titegroup produced very little ejecta in that loading. There was a tragic fire at Glock USA HQ in the last year or so that caused the death of at least one employee. One likely cause was the ignition of range floor sweepings that had been collected in a bucket or a drum. Anyone have more details on the final results of the investigation?
  8. Thanks for the heads up from Winchester. Probably best to avoid reloading these as heavy pin loads or for use in a blow-back (like a carbine) & toss them after one reload.
  9. Another brilliant feature of the new SP-01 is that the frame is steel, just like the new competition 9mms from Sig & Beretta and frankly, its a bit like a long heavy dustcover SV or STI (only its allowed in Production). While it resembles the new Czech national police sidearm (the alloy P-01), the SP-01's frame is larger & made of steel. There will be both a frame safety & a de-cocker model produced. It should shake things up in both USPSA & IPSC production - particularly with Todd Sindelar, Angus, Matt & Petros behind it.
  10. Good anecdote & good advice ima45dv8. During last night's USPSA indoor match (www.shootersparadise.com) I noticed a shooter on the open public side of the range wearing an IDPA hat. Since I shoot both sports, I walked over & asked if he was shooting on the 8PM squad since we were about to start. He responded that no, he was not shooting at 8 but rather he was practicing for a match & then he added: "And its an IDPA match!" I guese he expected a negative reaction from me, but I simply told him "Cool! Most of us shoot IDPA as well. We have some open slots on the squad & if you want to use our match for practice & shoot it IDPA style, you are more than welcome to shoot with us." Well, he declined but at least the offer had been made & maybe he'll shoot with us next time. Or not. At least he was shooting an action sport. Hard as it is to hold back sometimes, it does not pay to piss people off.
  11. Hey Rhino - does your 9mm have a ramped supported barrel? If not, do not shoot the L7A1 ammo. When reloading manuals warn about unsupported chambers, they are also talking about the traditional 1911 barrel design - which offers very little case support. This is in addition to the Glock .40 warnings. Frankly, I think it is iresponsible to even make an unramped 1911 barrel in 9mm, .38 super or .40 S&W. Anyway, I have used this ammo in the KKM barrel Glock 17 Open gun that John Nagel built for me & a friend w/an open STI uses this ammo exclusively. Good stuff. Runs well over 45,000 psi according to the lab tests he got back from the ballistics testing lab a few years back.
  12. A good way around this ruling is an SSP gun that comes with an overtravel stop in the trigger as a factory part; such a gun is the CZ-85 Combat.
  13. From today's Washington Post (www.washingtonpost.com full link below) "A Maryland law requiring state police to collect ballistics data on every handgun sold in the state is ineffective and expensive and should be repealed, according to a report by the Maryland State Police." http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/artic...-2005Jan17.html As Turtle points out, things are better under the Republican governor. As for an MD CCW, make sure that you have a documented threat against your life or documented proof that you routinely carry very large amounts of cash/pharmaceuticals & its possible. Do nto bother submitting your CCW from other states; MD simply does not care about that. For the average citizen who simply wants a CCW for personal defense, it is possible but be prepared for it to take upwards of 2 years. Just file & take the initial rejection, appeal it to the Board (you WILL lose) & then file a lawsuit to have it heard in the State courts. After that, they should relent & issue the permit though they usually place restrictions on it. Alternatively, if you hold a high position in the State government, permits seem easier to obtain & without the restrictions to which commoners are subject. I am thankful to live & work in Virginia now. D.
  14. Worked fine for me though I too noticed the slight primer crimp. Some would load SPP fine, others would cause the primer to go in sideways. Loading on a 1050 would cure that (I use the XL650). One good thing about them: you are nearly assured that they are once-fired (since few of us bother to reload them).
  15. I ordered 2 back in September & they arrived just before x-mas; both LEO marked. I gave one to a close friend as a holiday gift. Work very well. Follower is unstoppable. Heavy though. And they were $47 each (ouch). I will need to check the receipt but it might have been foufourmag.com. I would try cactus tactical or Arizona gunrunners. Also search on something like Cal's sporting armory. D.
  16. Welcome P99! I understand that for IPSC rules, Production magazine capacity is important. How does the P99 compare to the Glock 17, CZ SP-01 and LDA? Factory full capacity magazines are just now becoming available in some parts of the USA so these details are new to us civilians. Regards, D. BTW, what country p99?
  17. Todd wrote: "-the 85 Combat (vs. the 85B) has an overtravel stop for the trigger and -NO firing pin block safety. " Both 85s feature ambidextrous controls. The Combat has adjustable sights. In comparing the 75B with the CZ-85 Combat, the additional features include: -ambidextrous safety -ambidextrous slide release lever -slightly longer mag release than 75B -factory installed adjustable sights -firing pin is removable in the same fashion as a 1911 (75B is retained by a roll pin) -magazines drop free (75B is designed to retain the magazine in the well when the release is activated) -in dual tone, the 85 Combat features a non-reflective finish on the slide to cut out glare. Until the SP-01 arrives in the USA, the 85 Combat is the perfect 9mm CZ for Production division. D.
  18. CZ still sells this brand w/ their logo printed on it. Try calling CZ to see if they will fix it or they know who can. D.
  19. JD - .45 ACP blazer has gone through 2 types of aluminum cases; the older cases were berdan & one had to remove the center post to load a boxer primer (only tried that once). The lastest cases have a weird double flash hole - each hole is a semi-circle. THese load OK w/ regular boxer primers. D.
  20. "Methinks he's referring to the original question, Doug" Yep, could be. To play it safe, I will edit the post text & make it more polite & more in the spirit of the forum our host wants. Thanks Gorilla! D.
  21. CCI/Speer Blazer loaded with copperized SWCs? How about the copper colored primers used by Winchester? CCI/Speer does not make Blazer with a SWC. But I do. Regards, D.
  22. What about the Blazer .45 cases I reloaded for Limited - 10? Not something I make a habit of doing, nor would I recomend anyone trying it. Loading any aluminum case other than a .45 is foolish. I do it because I can.
  23. I did some research on all past posts here that mention "Universal". Here is what I found: -Turtle used it w/ satisfactory results in .40 until he began to "load long" - i.e. 1.200" & longer in .40 & then it was inconsistent as to SD & accuracy. -JFD had problems with it in .45. as to SD -Others used it w/o a problem for .40 Major. What seems to be happening here? The stuff seems position sensitive as well as sensitive to partially filled cases. It seems that if you put a major charge (as listed in the manual) in a .40 & load it to the "short" recomended OAL (1.13 or so) then it may work. For a 1911 based gun, the length of 1.13 may not work as well as loading long - to 1.200 or more. Looks like an OK powder for non-1911 guns that must run the shorter OAL.
  24. I think you meant to say "slight over-charge" instead of "double charge." Two solid bodies of mass cannot occupy the same space at the same time. The charge bar can only fit ONE (1) charge in the bar at a time. Therefore: The only way you can possibly get a double charge is if a single case stays in position under the funnel while the charge bar makes 2 trips back & 2 trips forth, dumping 2 charges into a single case. As for a slight overcharge, such a charge is common with the dillon powder measure if it is left to sit for several minutes, hours, or overnight. Simply dump the first couple of measures back into the hopper. Regards, D.
  25. dcloudy wrote: "Of course, my gun and the holster I ordered last week for it are IDPA illegal now too, so I guess the moonclip holder thing doesn't matter." If you are talking about the S&W 625 & 610, then you are currently correct. Both guns are banned by IDPA. As to what might happen or what rules IDPA might choose to pass in the future, I have given up trying to predict those. I will believe it when I see it happen. Until then, I'll be shooting my 625 in other competitive sports. UPDATE: there seem to be some who feel the 625 meets the weight requirements while others are finding it does not. Will have to "weight" & see.
