  1. I suppose like car racing among car owners, competitive shooters are a small subset of gun owners. That would indeed be an interesting dinner party photo. That is an EXCELLENT analogy! Mind if I use it? CarinaB - thanks for the video.
  2. That style of carrying a mag is very common. The 'mag' in the gun is usually a dummy though the one it is attached to is not. I was told by a neighbor, from isreal that they do not carry off duty loaded rifles. Ammo close at hand though. Correct. I asked them about this when I visited. In "civilian areas" the rule is: no magazines in the rifle (though loaded magazines are kept "on" the rifle - with the device pictured or even with elastic bands). They also follow a "no loaded chamber" rule for pistols. There is a different rule for other areas like the many road blocks or at the border into Jordan - there I saw magazines in the rifles ready to go. The reason for this policy was explained to me this way: there are SO many different weapons in service and many more nationalities, languages, etc. represented in the IDF (the Israel Defense Forces) that the ONLY way to prevent accidental discharges is an empty chamber policy. Considering the fact that Israel won its independence using home-made Stens & every other "fire arm" they could get, I understand their distrust of mere mechanical safeties. Kingman & everyone: you should visit. Its safe there, the women are beautiful, and the Israelis love Americans (plus the food ain't too shabby!).
  3. Seems not to make judgements - just shows photos. Although these are gun owners, it does not seem from the descriptions like very many of them are regular "shooters" - and none of them appear to be competitors except maybe the guy with the AR. Funny how often "protection" is mentioned, yet none of them mention IDPA, training, etc. Here is the http://abcnews.go.com/WN/popup?id=3408842&...ex=1&page=1 on abcnews.com Here is one example:
  4. I wish more anti-gun Americans would vacation in Israel It is an EXTREMELY safe place to visit now that the security fence around the west bank is in place & Gaza went to the PA. I have been there twice and they LOVE Americans there (try finding another country in the middle east like that). In both Israel & Switzerland, the country is "awash in guns" and mere citizens are "armed to the teeth" with a "weapons cache" in every home. Both countries have miniscule violent crime rates that are lower than the US. What is the difference? -though they have the guns, the Israelis & Swiss don't use them on each other. U.S. anti-gun voters need to understand - its not the gun. Rather, its the mentality of the society that is at the root of the crime problem.
  5. It really pisses me off when a few people on the squad won't help out. I even find it distratcting to the point where my concentration is affected. How selfish & self-centered must one be to simply sit there & watch while others do the work for you?
  6. If you liked that photo, there are 21 pages of photos of ARs carried in Israel (co ed) on the following link: LINK TO AR15 PHOTOS or try: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&...0723&page=2
  7. Media reaction here (LA times): LINK TO LA TIMES or http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/a...1&cset=true Seems Biden questioned the man's mental fitness to own "that" gun. In the wake of the tragedy at VA Tech, I suppose we should not be surprised to see the issues of gun ownership, mental health records, and personal privacy cross paths.
  8. Well sure: the 610 can use the same .40 cal ammo you are already loading for your Limited .40 cal. I'd just like to see more options in the market and more moon-clip chambered revolvers.
  9. Just to clarify: Winchester White Box 147 = bullet tumbled (keyholed) Atlanta Arms Factory 147 = bullet tumbled Clays w/ 147 grn bullet = bullet tumbeled - 9mm M&Ps; 2 different guns produced tumbling bullets. Maybe bad run of barrels by the factory?? Other 147 grn loaders (this means you Jeff) - can you test your rounds to 25 to 35 yards and see if your 147s are tumbling too?
  10. Hey Kirk: Maybe ParaOrd? Glock? Tanfoglio? CZ? (could not resist)
  11. Did it look lilke this?? That is a Mossberg 930 Tactical - and it looks suspiciously like a Winchester Super X-2 Mk. II or FN Tactical autoloader - only the Mossberg only costs approximately $497.44. Any other reviews? Does the Mossberg 930 = Winchester Super X-2 ???
  12. Base model stripped down 1989 Eagle Talon. Ate clutches. No traction & all sorts of other problems. Regretable choice.
  13. Was surprised and pleased to see photos of our stages from the last match posted along with the scores (thanks Bill A. ). Here is the LINK TO PHOTOS OF STAGES. Here is one of the pictures for comparison: regards, C. TY-44934
  14. Thumb rests in Ltd. = no. Slide rackers in Ltd. = yes.
  15. Got one of tyhe 1st Sprincos from a friend who got to go to the SHOT show where they were introduced for the Standard IPSC. Despite being then-new, it has held up great. Like the other sprincos or recoilmaster, I don't think its "revolutionary" - but it is an incremental improvement. I just rant the stock spring & buffer; I might have to try a lighter spring - thanks for the suggestion.
  16. WARNING: The new PMC/Wolf primers are ultra-sensitive like the Federal and are as dangerous as Federal small rifle primers as far as the possibility of a "slam-fire" in a NRA Service Rifle/Camp Perry rifle. Wideners put out this warning about how sensitive the PMC's are: The WOLF Standard Small Rifle Primers have an all COPPER CUP, which is a little more sensitive than the brass cup magnum primers. If you are loading for an AR15 or Military Style semi auto rifle, or are loading high pressure cartridges in any other type of rifle ,we recommend you use the Magnum Small rifle primers. Both primers use the same amount of compound. The only difference is in the cup hardness. If you are looking for M-14 or AR-15 service rifle primers, better use the small rifle Magnum primers. Again, the PMC's in the picture above are about as sensitive as Federal.
  17. I tumble most of my loaded rounds (except JHP). Never had an issue & I use only Federal primers (they are the most reliable brand). Powders include V V, Solo 1000, Clays, power pistol, 2400, Antique, 4756, 7625, TG, 231/HP38, and many others I do not recall.
  18. I agree. I often see reloaders mistake the OAL number in the book for "recommended" when it should actually be read as "minimum safe OAL." Besides, most guns feed well with an OAL of 1.150" or slightly more (however, Angus & Matt use a much shorter OAL in their CZs. They know a lot more than I do about CZs. Nonetheless, my guns work w/ ammo that is 1.150"). What benefit is there to loading short? None I can think of. It presents less of a margin for set back, raises pressure, as a result it is harder on the brass, and puts your bullet further from the rifling.
  19. Thanks to A8 director. Although i shoot a CZ SP-01 & would not be affected by the rule, I am glad it was defeated & i personally believe it makes more models competitive in Production rather than fewer - as it should be.
  20. I brought in a professional German interpreter (my wife who is from Munich). Although the sound quality is bad, apparently the kid is attempting to get a video game to work on his computer; he gets "upset" when the game freezes or does not work the way he wants. We figure that mom & dad knew he was likely going to throw a tantrum and thankfully for us, they got out the video camera. There is no mention of Prairie dogs or chipmunks. But, we both found it realy amusing nonetheless. I also googled Dramatic Prairie Dog and apparently its a short, meaningless UTube clip from a Japanese TV show with a host, 4 teenage girls and a prairie dog. Wierd.
  21. Funny thing is: -there are growing masses of AR-15 owners - even ones who consider themselves "AR experts" - on places like AR-15.com, who would be completely unfamiliar with the JP rifle shown, or the growing sport of 3gun (much of which is not governed by USPSA). What are these people doing with their AR-15s? A. the are generally, going to "the range," sitting there at a bench and (slow-fire) "shooting a group" off a rest or a bipod - over & over, weekend after weekend. Slightly more advanced users will "take training" - which has all sorts of implications & few defined best practices. Funny how often they scoff at the suggestion of trying out a competition.
  22. Good example - gas here IS super cheap. And $7.05 proves a modern economy can survive much higher prices. We just like to whine - which is a sad comment on the state of the USA. I hope that gas in the US goes up to $5 a gallon - nothing short of that would move some of the fat arse single-passenger SUV drivers off the D.C. beltway & into something a little more reasonable. Can't see squat around those things & none of drivers seem competent (nor able to put down their cell phones).
  23. I don't think the 92 or an Elite version would hold you back at all. Accurate, reliable guns with MINOR ammo (they don't hold up to Major 9 - but thats another story). Issues are: -alloy vs. steel frame. BUT - there is a steel frame version of the 92 if it matters to you. And the Glock & M&P use light frames to great effect. -length to trigger. BUT - there are Vertec models with a shorter reach. -Magazines are not as resistant to dirt as the Glock mag. BUT - few mags are as dirt resistant as the Glock. Gotta clean Beretta mags like you do with the CZ & M&P.
  24. I will go out on a limb & say they grant cert (hear the case). Roberts, Alito, Scalia and Thomas have said that such a decision is overdue - though who can say if they think Parker is the "right" case to hear? Whatever happens, D.C.'s restrictions are not likely to change much at all. The real impact of a Parker win would be National - not so much for D.C. Sad too, since D.C. sits 1/2 way between my work & my wife's employer - it would be a convenient place to live but for the crime, taxes and unconstitutional gun laws.
