I started with a .22 target gun I borrowed in the local gun club. My first privately owned handgun was a stainless Beretta 92FS, then I got a Ciener .22 conversion unit for it. Next was a used S&W 586 with an Aimpoint. I had the Beretta for 9 years, but after I got my STI I didn’t shoot it and the S&W much, so I sold them along with the Ciener .22 conversion unit. Latest toy is a Marvel Unit 1.

My practice sessions consist of 200-250 rounds. Anymore than that and I get sloppy and just blast at brown (which can be fun, but just don’t improve my shooting)

I feel for you man. But when you (as I have) have tried to wait 3.5 years for a Ciener .22 cal. Conversion unit and 25 months for a custom STI you get to appreciate the virtues of patience

I have used all kind of 38 Super look-a-like brass (38 Super Comp, 38 TJ, 9mm Largo, 9x23 and even a 9x21) as long as they go through my 38 Super die there are no problems. This is with minor loads though.

If I could, I'd enlist today and help my country track down those responsible for killing thousands of innocent people in New York City and Washington, DC But, I'm over 50 now and the Armed Forces say I'm too old to track down terrorists. You can't be older than 35 to join the military. They've got the whole thing backwards. Instead of sending 18-year-olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join until you're at least 35. For starters: Researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more that 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy. Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is a dangerous soldier. If we can't kill the enemy we'll complain them into submission. "My back hurts!" "I'm hungry!" "Where's the remote control?" An 18-year-old hasn't had a legal beer yet and you shouldn't go to war until you're at least old enough to legally drink. An average old guy, on the other hand, has consumed 126,000 gallons of beer by the time he's 35 and a jaunt through the desert heat with a backpack and M-60 would do wonders for the old beer belly. An 18-year-old doesn't like to get up before 10 a.m. Old guys get up early every morning to pee. If old guys are captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd probably forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser. Boot camp would actually be easier for old guys. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we actually like soft food. We've also developed a deep appreciation for guns and rifles. We like them almost better than naps. They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I've been in combat and didn't see a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training. I can hear the Drill Sergeant now, "Get down and give me...er...one." And the running part is kind of a waste of energy. I've never seen anyone outrun a bullet. An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to actually carry on a conversation, and to wear pants without the top of his butt crack showing and his boxer shorts sticking out. He's still hasn't figured out that a pierced tongue catches food particles, and that a 400-watt speaker in the back seat of a Honda Accord can rupture an eardrum. All great reasons to keep our sons at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off to possible death. Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten cowards who attacked our hearts on September 11. The last thing the enemy would want to see right now is a couple of million old farts with attitudes.

April 2003 my lead level was about 40 (shot a lot indoors) 5 months later, after eating a lot of vitamins, it had dropped to around 26 (I haven’t been tested since). I haven’t shot indoors since I got tested the first time (except 1 match in November 2004).

cruiten Production is dominated by Glock 17, but a lot of shooters are also using HK’s and CZ’s. The new production gun from Tanfoglio however is looking very good. According to Eric Grauffel you can get a capacity of 21+1 (9mm) in the gun!

What are the common target arrays you encounter at matches? Start positions …? Practice things you see at matches, remember the goal is to do better at the future matches not to get good at 4 specific drills. Why not use the winter to turn some of your weak points into your strong points (or at least no longer quite so weak points ) If there is a big gab between your transitions and your splits, try to close that gab. Practice getting into and out of positions. See if there are ways to reduce your setup time on each target array (having the gun up and ready before you get into position). Don’t use the winter standing still drawing and firing at a few targets, when there are so many things you can do to better your chance at closing in on that magic 100% at your next match.

hdgun IPSC Modified guns are in 40 cal. So they are not any harder to handle than a limited/standard gun. Add a comp and a dot and you have a very fun toy to play with. For your gun I would suggest starting with a load used in the short open guns like the STI Stinger (do a search).

Take the priming system apart and polish the surfaces of the two parts where they slide on each other, reassembly (lube with some graphite powder won’t hurt), repeat approx. every 2000-5000 rounds.

Dalmas I can get 20 38Super in mine using modified STI followers (cut very thin), so that is what you can expect with 9x19 when using grams spring and follower. Bo

I have tried it in 38 Super. All I can say is, that it’s one nice and soft shooting little gun, even using Winchester 130 gr. Factory load at 1215 fps. It uses STI’s Recoil Master (do a search to find opinions on that unit) Bo
