  1. I'm a big fan of the Chocobock. Two of my favorite things and good beer and guns (not enjoyed at the same time...)
  2. I'd say go for it. I did a competition my old box put on. I sucked at it took like 5th place or something but I had fun. I recently sprained the crap out of my ankle and I am still recovering from a busted knee so count me out but I'll be cheering ya on!
  3. Not trying to stir the pot or hijak the thread but... If you can be competitive in production you'll be competitive in limited or limited 10 (you just have to shoot A's and as we all know thats what we need to do regardless of powerfactor). I'll point out Bob Vogel as an example. He's kick butt with a Glock in production, L10 and Limited. I'm sure they're modified and I know were all not Bob Vogel, but it's the indian not the arrow. Though I do conceed great arrows will help a lot. Limited/L10 minor would hurt a bit but would put more of a focus on shooting A's. And for your first few matches Saftey and getting good hits should be your major concern. Just my $ 00.02.
  4. That sucks, sorry to hear that. I've used literally hundreds of different ones (all work guns except the one thats mine) and they all functioned perfectly. Were they all factory? I think scattergun technologies works on ours that may be the difference or I may be really lucky.
  5. I drive a minimum of 4 hours to "local" matches here and all are around 15-20 bucks. My bad fortune to live that far away, an extra 15 bucks wouldn't deter me much but I'd be more willing to drive to the other matches as opposed to that one. Unless of course that 35 dollar match was first class everytime, then I'd be in.
  6. 1300 is a touch high. I picked one up in MT for 1100. But it thats the only one available then I'd jump on it. I personally love mine and would have spent a little more if I didn't find one when I did. Good luck with it.
  7. There is a special place in Hell for that motherf#&$^r. Self edited.
  8. I'd personally go with the 870. Nothing against the rest of them but I've used several 870s at work and a personally owned one for hunting and none of them have had anything close to a hiccup. I can't speak to the rest of the ones on your list as I haven't used them (except the nova and I shot one once so I can't offer an educated opinion). I don't think you'll ever have an issue with the 870 and there are tons of upgrades and aftermarket parts available. I assume you're shooting heavy metal?
  9. I shoot Limited, Limited 10 and SS simply because I really like my 2011/1911s. But I'm going to start venturing into revolver and production this year. We'll see how bad I really suck when I have to reload everytime I move my feet (and/or when I miss a lot).
  10. Thanks for your service keeping us safe sir! and welcome to the forums.
  11. "while you're reading this, your enemy is training." "If things seemed easy, you've obviously missed something."
  12. The shop here in town has the JG model and the other M&P 9mm (sans pink grips) for the same price. Maybe a shop specific thing though.
  13. Didn't Barnhart win a bunch of matches (or at least do really damn well) with an compensated gun with iron sights back in the day? Granted I couldn't do it but I seem to remember it being possible. The real advantage of a dot (at least in my limited experience) comes when you have a tight/tough shot and are trying to go fast.
  14. +1 Never met Mr T but I've never heard a bad thing about him. Takes a lot of "Testicular Fortitude" to man up and say "I screwed up" without someone else saying it first. And like he said, it happens to the best of us.
  15. I'd rather shoot well and get beat than shoot like crap and win (not that I have to worry about winning even shooting well for me).
  16. I recently procurred a second M&P and have noticed that very few magazines will fall freely from the gun. On my other M&P every mag falls free so I know it isn't a magazine issue. So here's the question, can the issue be solved by taking a finger nail file or some super fine grit sand paper and sanding a little off the interior where the mags seem to be sticking? And once thats done hwo do I smooth out the polymer so that the mags don't stick because the sanding created a rough surface? Thansk in advance for the help and advice.
  17. I picked some up not too long ago and have had good sucess with it. I doubt it's an industry changing product but seems to work well for me.
  18. I shot a bunch of matches at SAPSA back in the 90s. Bunch of good guys then I'm sure its the same today (even if the group has changed).
  19. it's been my experience (and I'm no expert) that you pay for what you get. But even then, what do you need vs what do you want? I have an LMT AR-15. It is an outstanding gun and with certain ammo I'm getting well under 1/2 MOA. And I paid a lot more for the gun than say a DPMS 3G1. But that doesn't mean I win matches either. There's guys and gals beating me with 800 dollar ARs. more than likely the more $$ you shell out, the better quality of all the parts you get included on the gun (again thats typically not always). I'm not a frankengun kind of guy (though there are people who can do it and have great sucess) so I buy factory and then change the trigger or muzzle break. An example of good parts would be the Colt CR Pro, ie. the adjustabe gas block, surefire comp, fluted barrell, giesselle (spelling?) trigger, magpul CTR stock ect... and at 1700 bucks (dealer price) it should have great components. But the argument to that would be the DMPS 3G1, it has a JP trigger, JP handguard, decent comp, magpul (I think) stock, ergo grip ect... and it's about 1100 (dealer price). So saving 600 bucks and getting a comperable rifle maybe an option for most people. I think the asthetics of the Colt a lot more so some may go that route. Bottom line I guess is what Steve RA said, if it's reliable, accurate, and you like it then late the haters hate brother!
  20. I've put a few hundred rounds through mine so far and have had zero issues. Using a +2 with the stock spring.
  21. I personally think it's a great idea. Two matches in one spot back to back, only one extra night in a hotel. If you drove or flew to Barry why night stay another night and shoot the other match? I bought a revolver rig and am looking forward to shooting revolver nationals for the first time. I've always wanted to get into it but revo nationals was always grouped with another division I wanted to shoot. So here is my chance. It's been said here in previous posts but I think Single Stack will sell out (as always) regardless. It's always been a fun match and I'm sure it will continue to be.
  22. out of the box I was hitting a gallon milk jug POA POI at 50 yards with Federal slugs. Haven't shot any others out of it.
