  1. Congrats! That was a nice blaster. And welcome to the dark side.
  2. This is a good looking bench. Very similar to what I am planning to build. Unfortunately time isn't on my side right now, so I think it will be a cold weather project.
  3. Wow, I had better go back and double check my notes. I could have sworn that 8.5 was making well over 170 out of my shorty. Now I'm second guessing that.
  4. Wow, that sounds high, but it's possible they don't ship in small quantities often, and may not have an account with one of the major delivery companies. It is large, and would cost a fortune to ship by volume. I shipped an engine cover for a boat once. It weight ~20 pounds, but cost me $156 because the box was so large. Some other places get around that by shipping in very large volumes, and only pay by weight regardless of volume. You may want to try another vendor for the same thing.
  5. I have a Stihl blower, and an Echo trimmer. I bought the Echo because it was on sale for a great price (I think I paid 175 for a straight shaft unit), and has a 5 year warranty. The thing has been fantastic, and is honestly a bit easier starting than my Stihl blower, and the blower was just serviced this spring. If I had to do it all over again, I'd absolutely buy another Echo over the Stihl, but I can't say I'm going to get rid of the Stihl blower for an Echo either. And by easier to start, I mean I pull the rope twice on the trimmer, flip to half choke, and it fires right up. The blower I have to pull anywhere from 3-5 times before flipping to half choke. Neither one are horribly difficult, just the Echo is slightly easier. My 2 cents.
  6. I personally know a FedEx contracted driver in my area, and it was unbelievable the stories he would tell about just this sort of thing happening. Call in and complain, it will get down to the sub-contractor. If they get enough complaints, they won't get another contract.
  7. I had a car stolen a few years back. Luckily before I owned guns. Unfortunately for me my options are to leave the gun at home, or leave it in the car as I can't carry at work. I now own a dedicated cheap car gun. If it ever disappears, I'll be mad, but at least it won't be one of my STIs.
  8. My girlfriend has small hands and really likes the xdm with the short insert. She has shot a lot of my STIs, single stacks, etc. but always goes back to the xdm with small backstrap.
  9. I bought a used one and haven't looked back. I figure when I get another 20-30k rounds through it, I'll know what I want and have one built by one of the big names.
  10. It should work, you just might have to mount it to a magnet or something. Does the SDB crimp die have a hole through it for the rod?
  11. I use mine for gun parts and rifle brass only. I don't have the patience to wait for pistol brass to dry before loading it, so that goes in the tumbler.
  12. Isn't it usually after nationals? I thought I read that somewhere, but can't for the life of me cite the source.
  13. From my experience, a sideways C-more will help make the transition from irons to the dot easier, and if I had to do it again, I'd get a full size. Not to say you can't train yourself to shoot a top mount scope, or a shorty, but I think a full size with a sideways mount is the ticket. Just my humble opinions.
  14. That's right-- I forgot you shot Super! I hit up Max for some info the other day as well, so some good local info on the subject. "Grah. Dot guns." went out the window when I saw the price on this puppy. I justified it by convincing myself bullets were so much cheaper, it was stupid not to switch.
  15. I noticed the SNL was a bit shorter last weekend. I have a gram's tuned mag that the basepad cracked on, so I was going to swap out for the SNL. Turns out I can't load it with that pad on it.
  16. i hope not...jk it just seems kinda creepy to me Hence my reason for asking... I don't want to try it.
  17. Anybody try this over a chrono yet? I'm curious...
  18. N350, 7625, 4756, all great powders. N350 is about the most consistent. If you can get it, start there. It's very clean, and very consistent. I run 7.9grns and make about 168-169.
  19. So I picked up an AT500 a couple of days ago. Does anybody remember these? What vintage are they? The one I got appears to have been sent in at some point. The casting looks to be newer than the really old 550s. I'll put some pictures up tonight when I get home. I am planning to upgrade it to match my other 550, so I can leave one setup in large primer, and one in small.
  20. FWIW, my 38 super matchmaster ran okay with magtech factory ammo. It left some nasty crap on the c-more glass and didn't have enough gas to runt he comp effectively though.
  21. WOW, I bet that thing is loud. Shuman hybrid barrels have spots to drill lots of holes, for what it's worth.
  22. Put up some pictures of whatever you end up with. I'd like to see it.
  23. I'll give a big ole +1 to this. I have about 7ish of the +2's as Noah describes them, and get about 23 without too much cramming on 13 coil springs, very reloadable. I'd love to get a few more, as the 3 I use most of the time are really showing their age.
  24. Do you have an STI gun, or an SVI? If it's an STI, did you have to mod the frame to accept the new SVI tubes? Or did they happen to just work after modding the mag catch? I'm not opposed to ordering one and trying it, but they're kind of expensive to do that TOO many times if there isn't a lot of hope.
  25. I'm not interested in the debate about it being useful. I think that horse is dead. I was just curious if anybody was still building them, especially now that old SV tubes are near impossible to get, and the new ones are a pain to make work in STI guns. I already have 2 very reliable 28 round big sticks that I generally use (29 gets past the ribs), and I have 1 SPS tube that I need to order a basepad for, but that should be about a 30 round tube. I have mandrels for pounding ribs into the tubes. I may order another STI tube and give it a go. I just didn't want to waste my time trying if somebody out there is already building them.
