  1. Come on guys, its been over 2 weeks since this incident and STILL little to no detailed info??? From what I read it was old tec tube handles, but were they modified properly? Was the primer cut done correctly? How about a photo? With or without dowel? Possible dirt in the primer cut? What kind of ammo, reloads or factory? If reloads, were the crimps deep enough? What's the detailed story? I think the entire 3gun community needs to see as much as possible about this, the Tec Loaders have had quite a bad rap from mostly rumors... thanks! JJ
  2. A lot of times this is caused by the mag spring being waaaaay too long. I'm not sure about the CM, but the spring that comes with an extended mag is a standard length that would work in a 15 round tube and still be too long! Shorten your mag spring to about 4-6 inches longer than the overall length of the entire magazine; you will get easier, smoother reloads and the shells loading onto the carrier will not slam into the carrier quite so hard. Sometimes this excessive slamming can cause damage to the carrier/lifter system. JJ
  3. Am I reading the rules and stuff correctly and not seeing a "tactical" category, ie; all limited guns EXCEPT for a single optic on the rifle??? Thanks! jj
  4. EAA Bakal IZH27 Sporting report, after some use. Well, my Russian Pool Cue, as I call it, the case it comes in looks kinda like a pool cue case, is still running just fine. I've shot at least 2500 rounds thru it, maybe closer to 3000. I had a softer butt pad put on it, but other than that it is still stock. It shoots soft and points & swings well, I've used it in all clay games too. Bought some skeet chokes for skeet, and modified chokes for sporting clays for it too. I would highly reccomend it to anyone looking for a inexpensive starter! Their new sporting model, the 233, looks like it could have some promise. Haven't shot a perfect round of skeet with it yet, but been close a couple of times! JJ
  5. Mike, an argumentative bugger? Yep... "es off is ead!" (that's my best keyboarded Brit accent...) Again I say, if ANY auto loader proved to be more reliable and maintainance free than a Benelli, I would be shooting it in 3gun. I still think I would just use a O/U for bird hunting; simple, easy to use, and way more reliable than any auto loader. JJ
  6. EricW; Is that sub 1/2 MOA group shot from an AR? JJ
  7. The M1 Practical is an Open shotgun, it has a 26 inch ported barrel so even if you remove the comp it is still an Open shotgun. The mag is an 8 rounder, take it off and put on a 10 rounder and you have a fully Open shotgun, add a reddot if you want and hose! If you are looking for a Limited Benelli out of the box, get the M1 Tactical with 21 inch barrel, but again you will have to add an extended mag tube to get max rounds allowed for Limited. Either are great shotguns for their respective divisions! JJ
  8. Let me echo Kurt; Thanks to John for feeding us AND sponsoring the match, thanks to Joe, Tommy, & Rick for cooking the awsome meals! Thanks to John's family for helping feed us hungry ROs! Thanks to RM3G for having me as an RO, I learned a lot! This match is the only one I am even remotely interested in ROing, I just like shooting too much! Thanks to Denese for helping me RO stage 7 "Excess Baggage", doing all that extra work when I was away shooting other stages, keeping me straight on the very few abnormal calls we had, tearing down the stage before I even got up sunday morning, and for keeping the rattlesnakes away from me... Thanks to all the other ROs, we had a great day wednesday, and for letting me catch up friday and saturday, espcially Hung Dang for getting up earily saturday so I could shoot stage 1 and still get back to my stage in time, and Michael Fields and Dean Culver for running me last on saturday, cutting into lunchtime. AND, thanks to the competitors, everyone ran "Excess Bagage" very safe, you made my job easy! (I figured I ran about 15 miles in 3 days, 60 yards at a time...) And congrats to everyone for NO DQs! See everyone next year, if you didn't go this year, do it in '05! you won't regret it! JJ
  9. Shot 3 rounds of 5 stand and 4 rounds of skeet today with my new Bakal IZH27 Sporting. Gun ran well and seemed to do what it is supposed to, points well, it is not too heavy or too light so swing weight is just about right (for me anyway...) It came with 3 chokes, full, modified, & IC... kinda tight for skeet (but still shot a 22 on the first round), the IC and Mod worked well for 5 stand. The chokes are Tru Chokes, Brownells sells lots of Tru chokes, most of them are made by Colonial Arms so I need to get some cylinder chokes for skeet. So far, I am impressed. For the price & the way it shoots makes it a great gun for all clay games. Time will tell on duralibility... From what I have heard, they are very durable and reliable, which is why I bought one. Two thumbs up on the Baikal IZH27 Sporting! JJ
  10. Picked up my IZH27 Sporting, 29.5 inch barrels, ported, selectable trigger, turn on/off the ejectors, good looking wood, mid barrel bead, front bead is slightly fiber optic. Takes Tru Chokes too! Comes with a nice soft case. So far, so good! Will shoot it tomorrow Sporting Clays and Skeet... JJ
  11. How about the Damar mount? Takes some smithing (6 screws), but you can mount any scope/reddot on it that has a Weaver base. http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/Pro...GUN+SCOPE+MOUNT JJ
  12. Just bought a new IZH27 Sporting, picking it up today... I'll let you know what I think of it, I just couldn't pass up the price, and it has had some good reviews... JJ
  13. TXAG, The Benelli is the only answer, unless you are willing to shoot a double barrel or over/under, for reliability in VERY adverse conditions. (Although for waterfowling & clay games I would choose an over/under) Gas gun reliability goes to Hell in a handbasket when the cold/wet/muddy/dusty conditions set in, somthing you may have seen a time or two when hunting waterfowl??? Yes, you guessed it, I am a Benelli Snob, and that's just the way I see it... In my favorite game (3gun) if ANYTHING else proved to be more reliable & maintainance free I would immediately switch from Benelli.. JJ
  14. Anyone know of a manufacturer that makes a monte carlo type stock for a Benelli M1? JJ
  15. All, I just noticed that the MOR results are now up on the USPSA web site in the match results for the 3gun nationals. I'm not sure when they were put there, probably in the last 5-6 days...the top 5... 1 MOOTS, CHARLES TAT FY40444 B Manual Open Minor N N 120.5464 100.00% 2 BURKETT, MATT L2135 GM Manual Open Major N N 96.0020 79.64% 3 CARBON, CARL TY21955 M Manual Open Minor N N 77.6406 64.41% 4 HOLDSWORTH, JIMMY A42038 B Manual Open Minor N N 77.1211 63.98% 5 CARLOCK, SHAWN TY32148 M Manual Open Minor N N 76.1285 63.15% JJ
  16. Bruce, 3 biggies that STILL have not beed addressed; I won Open C Class, and still haven't received a plaque, 2 weeks after the match, anyone else? When at the Open prize table, it seemed that people were getting called up out of order, after I looked at the sheet that was being used, I noticed I was placed 42nd, when in fact I placed 28th overall, but I did place 42nd in overall PISTOL. What happened? Where are the results & recognition for the MOR match? JJ
  17. Thanks Erik, Change my stance, ok, I'll try that... but I have noticed it doing that thrusting to the right thing even on a bipod, would that make a difference? In regards to that, maybe my grip on the pistol grip is causing it??? JJ
  18. I've got a JP "tank" break on my AR, it is set up neutral, and I have noticed that it thrusts to the right into my support hand slightly when I fire (i'm left handed). Is the break causing this? Anybody got a remedy for this I'm more than glad to listen... JJ
  19. I agree Geroge, where is the recognition, where are the plaques/awards as well? Charles "Tater" Moot won the MOR match, the results were posted on the "wailing wall", but I haven't seen them since. JJ
  20. I think Tactical Division needs to be finished, ie; all three firearms need to be Tactical. The rifle is perfect; one optic allowed. The pistol should be a production/carry type in a carry holster, caliber of your choice, major/minor rules apply. Shotgun should be the same; production type that a cop would carry in a squad car, I'm not going to get into the pump vs auto loader or number of rounds it should hold... This would make it a clearly defined separate Division, instead of a sub-division of Limited like RM3G and SMM3G handle it. And also, USPSA needs to adopt the Heavy Metal/He Man Divison. More shooters with different equipment, more reconition, etc... JJ
  21. Bruce, Oh yea, I forgot one other thing... The lack of TROPHIES was VERY unprofessional, whatever the reason. There was NO reconition (other than overall Match Winner, congrats Teran!!!) for anybody. It was almost a free-for-all at the prize table... Granted, the encroaching storm had some effect... another neg for Reno... And keeping the overall scores "a secret" until the prizes were distributed added to the free-for-all. The overall scores should have been posted, that way (at other matches I have been at) the winners will be standing in appropriate order at the prize table, and prizes are distributed in an orderly manner... Another angle of my point is, does anyone who was there at the "awards ceremony" know who won Junior, Senior, Super Senior, or Lady in their respective divisions? (without looking...) Or their respective Class winners? And what the **** happened to Law and Military??? (another thread... sorry...) uscbigdawg, As for burning rounds unnecessarily to speed unload; It's a pet-peeve of mine, unloading on the clock IS unsafe, and the number of DQs that resulted from NOT having an unloaded firearm grounded or "abandon" is proof of that... At this match, at SMM3G, etc... Unfamiliarity? Sure, that is a major reason, but I think if we could ground a loaded firearm ON SAFE pointed toward a safe place (45 degrees down, into a sandbag bunker) is MUCH safer that having rounds going over the berm, or having unknown loaded firearms uprange pointing in unknown directions that Joe Target Taper could bump into, etc... Personally, I do it this way, I think this is the safest (and fastest), but I may be wrong; Pistol; drop the mag, rack the slide multiple times on the way to the grounding table... Shotgun; do a GOOD round count when loading, plan for several (2-4, depending on the shotgun round count) makeup shots, and unload it by shooting at the last target until the shotgun is empty, and I check the chamber/follower to make sure before grounding it... Rifle; same as pistol, but I am slower at this because I am left handed. Sometimes I drop the mag and shoot the last round... Again, the match had GREAT STAGES, (I love multi-gun!) the perfect number of stages, and MOST of the staff were great too! The RM Carl was AWSOME, he should get an award of some kind, talk about over and above the call of duty!!! I met him on tuesday, he was very friendly, helpful, relaxed and composed, and that did not change thoughout the match, how did you do it, Carl? JJ
  22. Bruce, Thought you told me you wern't going to Reno??? Would have been great to meet you and discuss this stuff... The number of stages was PERFECT! The problem that bit us was the low number of squad members. We only had 6 shooters on our squad, and I'm here to tell ya, I sure am glad I made a point of walking ALL the stages thursday before the match. With only 6 squad members you have one that just shot, one shooting, one getting ready to shoot & maybe preloading (on deck), and one walking the stage the last time before preloading (in the hole). That leaves TWO shooters to help tape/set steel/etc. Not enough... I don't mind helping, but I came to the Nationals to shoot, not patch targets... More stage assistants were needed. More than once I shot a stage not having that warm fuzzy of knowing I was doing it the best I could, and it was totally attributed to being rushed... Then you move to the next bay and you see what firearms are needed and hardly have enough time to load mags, speed tubes, etc before the stage briefing. Forget trying to find time to clean your gun after that dust devil went thru... (like I said, I'm glad I did walkthrus on thursday...) I can think of two stages that needed 10 point targets, the 340 yarders on stage 15, and the 130 yarders from the haybales. There may have been more needed, these come to mind thou. The Multi-Gun Rule Book needs range commands. Pistol range commands don't work all the time. The Multi-Gun Rule Book came out WAY TOO LATE! Abandoning an empty firearm got too many people DQ'd because they didn't have time to figure out how to do it correctly before the nationals. Abandoning EMPTY firearms has once again proven itself to be UNSAFE. The problem is emptying the firearm ON THE CLOCK. rounds into the berm (maybe over), ejecting all but one, having a jam on the last round, etc, all of it is unsafe. Putting a loaded firearm, safety on, into a padded barrel/tube/carpet cradle pointed at 45 degrees or higher into a sandbag bunker IS SAFE and simple. Scoring problems? Easy... FIX EasyWinScore to support multi gun, or develop another program that will!!! ROs. Most knew what they were doing, were great to be around, and were helpful. Some however need to find something else to do. I was once ORDERED by and RO to help tape a stage right after I was done shooting when I was cleaning mags... The "Them vs Us" attitudes were abound, were unprofessional, and have no business being at a national level match...Nuff said??? On the other hand, some shooters should have taken lessons from some of the ROs... Eric, Your stage in peticular comes to mind as being the least "stressful" for me anyway. Great job on standardizing the range commands! Also bay 3 was run by some very helpful ROs. Reno... Nice range, but... two HUGE dust devils in one day? yech... it will take me a month to clean that horrible fine dust from everything, including my truck... I had a great time, learned a lot, and shot well (1st Open C class). would I do it again? yes. At Reno? probably not... JJ
  23. Troy, The IMGA rules that SMM3G in Mesa AZ used are at; Superstition Mystery Mountain 3 Gun The MGM Iron Man 3 gun rules; MGM The JP Rocky Mountain 3 Gun match rules; Rocky Mountain 3 Gun And the local match Rocky Mountain 3 Gun rules; Local Rocky Mountain 3 Gun I'm sure there are more out there, these are just the ones I had a shortcut too... Blue Skies! JJ
  24. How in the world do you keep the first round of the mag NOT in the mag well from working it's way partway out making the reload slow or impossible? I took my coupler apart after it did that a couple of time, at the most in-opportune moment... JJ
  25. I'm left handed and shoot a right handed 1100. I love the port where I can see it, operate the bolt with the weak hand, etc. As for the safety, on "standby" I put my left thumb on the enlarged safety button I got from Brownells, on the buzzer I push it in, shoulder the SG and blaze away... No problem, easy as pie! Blue Skies! JJ
