  1. Kewl Match! Had a great time even thou the bowling team was out there in full force! The roller coaster was a kick! That was the only stage that required the shooter to use his head, I didn't see it shot the same way twice! I had fun on all but one of the stages, and the ROs and staff were great! Stats did a great job getting scores up in record time! some comments; I agree with Michael, the ROs on 4 were not doing what they said they would about giving the flying clays to the shooter if ANY of the ROs saw a hit. They were gruff and short and did not even discuss things with a shooter after he shot. I saw many puffs of orange that were called a miss. I think the BIO clays were a bad choice for flyers, they don't break as easy as regular ones, and flying clays should be a bonus target or 5 seconds penalty, not 10 seconds penalty. Stage 8 ROs didn't allow anyone to look at the stage when there was no one shooting the stage. Why? all the other stages did... Stage 5, the helicopter didn't lend itself to a lefty very well. a righty could rest on the seat in one place and get all the steel, where a lefty had to shift positions at least twice (unless there was something I missed). I know there are some stages that are either right or left hand friendly, but that was lefty evil... too much like an IPSC match, ie... too many speed shoot stages. I'd rather see 8-9 longer stages that require the shooter to use his head rather than 10-11 short stages that are done just like everyone else. that just turns it into a foot race. only one required the shooter to think while on the clock. match DQ for not putting on a safety, even thou the abandoned gun was facing in a safe direction???? it should just be a procedural. got lucky with the laru targets out long range. In 2004, 2005, and 2006, the laru targets caused the stage to be thrown out. they get dirt, rocks, sticks, etc stuck in the mechanism and prevent resetting, or even worse, prevent them from falling... my wife got ripped for a FTN with a single hit TOUCHING the perf on the A zone...made for a long ride home...doesn't touching the perf count??? I agree with Taran, sepearate Tactical scoped and iron divisions, and dump HM auto. It was great to see everyone, and do some shooting in shorts/t-shirts after a looong winter in Colorado! Thanks to everyone on squad 7, and the entire staff! jj
  2. We are coming along, getting a few apps in but could use more! Some of the AMU guys are in, Daniel Horner and Robbie Johnson... I suppose Robbie would have to shoot the Johnson 3 Gun! So if you are planning on coming, get your apps in NOW! Only 3 months to go! www.home.earthlink.net/~johnson3gun jj
  3. Nope. It just adds to the arms race crap. It is clearly defined in the IMGA rules as an Open Shotgun. If we keep this stuff up we will hafta re-arm ourselves every year to be competitive. More often than not when I ask an ipsc shooter to try 3gun his answer is 'it costs to much'. Do we want this to be even worse? And, 'the arms race' is the main reason all the hell happened to ipsc shooting a few years back in the US, and idpa was born out of it. Of course everyone wants an edge, (even if its only percieved). The troops in the real stuff are learning from us and doing things like multiple optics on rifles, etc. But just because they are doing it doesn't mean we don't need boundaries in 3gun. (and I can see Russell being in favor of it, there are more Tactical shooters to sell em to! ) And they ain't cheap! Check out the price of a 'Race Ready' model! More than a Benelli! jj
  4. yep, something is wrong. try diffrent ammo maybe??? the cases should hit the deflector and end up on the ground about 3-6 feet in front of the rifle at a 45 degree angle. jj
  5. You should not be getting anything back in your face. Something is wrong, and its not that you are standing on the wrong side of the rifle... The ONLY problem I seem to have is when using the short range sight on the LEFT side of the rifle (at 10 o-clock) I sometimes get hot brass on the inside of my right elbow that may sit there and sizzle. When shooting a short hoser stage I just keep reminding myself that pain is weakness leaving the body...and the faster I go, the quicker I can get that hot little bast#!d off my arm! jj
  6. you bet that is THE Eric Miller the lefty, a legend in his own mind!
  7. SSLAV, I'm a lefty, and shootin right handed guns is the shiz! I wouldn't get a lefty gun, in any flavor...I'm too used to righties! Left handed AR mag changes; Leave left hand on pistol grip, be careful of your trigger finger... With right hand, grab new mag and bring it forward, push the mag release with your right thumb, seat the new mag. Quick and easy. If you use a mag cinch this is the same motion, except for goin to the belt for a new mag. Make sure your mags drop free, and keep the muzzle down so the mags fall out. BTW, I was taught by Eric Miller, one of the best out there, who happens to be a lefty! jj
  8. HM Only; The specific rules about He Man are posted on our web site. But to answer your question, no problem with any kind of .45 pistol, just have to use .45 ACP or .45 GAP max of 10 rounds per mag in He Man. Here's the website; http://home.earthlink.net/~johnson3gun/ MLM; I use a ching sling sometimes, and sometimes use a 3 point tac sling that is quick adjustable. Most of the time I don't use a sling at all. It just depends on your preference. Yea, I know that the market has about a bizillion available... best to just pick one and try it, better yet is to borrow one and check it out! Like I said, carrying one in your bag is definitely a good idea. EVERYONE! Lets get those entry form in! I know its winter and all, but the match is only 4 months away! We need to get trophys ordered, and I can't do that without knowing how many are shooting each division! If you send in your entry and find that you can't make it, you will receive a FULL refund. Just let us know BEFORE the match as soon as possible so we can pull the next person from the waiting list. jj
  9. Poly chokes are totally legal, ther is no difference between using a poly choke or changing regular chokes. just be careful when changing a poly choke during a course of fire so you don't appear to sweep yourself... not many people use them thou, probably because they increase the barrel length quite a bit. And the notion that #4 has more recoil than #8 is absurd. an ounce of shot is an ounce of shot no matter what size it is. this is of course assuming the powder charge is the same. personally I use #4 most of the time, mostly because I think it helps a lot on steel. and it works fine for me on clays too, even the flying ones... jj
  10. In RM3G rules, under "Sportsmanship and Conduct"; 3.4 RO’s may assess additional “unsportsmanlike conduct” penalties to competitors that intentionally fail to make a good faith effort to engage and hit targets in order to gain advantage. The Match Director shall be the final arbiter of any such penalties. As stage RO I would probably assess penalties; 10 seconds for the miss (cause you didn't shoot it) 10 seconds for 3.4 interesting thought thou...I sure don't want our IMG rule "book" to become as large as IPSC, so don't kick em, punch em, smack em with barrel of gun, tip a barrel over onto it, knock down a wall on em, etc.... Just shoot the %!#@ thing! jj
  11. probably no need for slings, a word to the wise thou, most people carry a sling in their rifle bag and shotgun bag... just in case! get yer apps in soon, we need to figure out the trophy count! jj
  12. HM Only, as RM3g brought HE-MAN into being, I'm not sure what you are trying to say. The original intent of He-Man WAS to be a scoped class, as described by Eddie Rhoads the 'founder' of He-Man. 3 gun is a game, and we must have rules. the different classes are ALWAYS evolving, if they didn't we would be using lever action rifles, revolvers, and double barrel shotguns. (wait, thats called cowboy action!) also, we must listen to the competitors and be aware of new techie stuff that enters the shooting arena. we can't let it be a free for all thou, years past of USPSA have shown us that. the shooters wanted scoped tactical, so with some restrictions it was brought into being. we are trying scoped He-Man this year, with some restrictions, at Rocky Mountain 3 Gun. it is, after all, our match (and I mean ALL shooters), using mdified rules from IMGA, the accepted guidlines of most 3 gun matches, and it is evolving. if we used the original IMGA rules, there would be no He-Man. way back in august we asked for opinions, and the majority said they wanted scoped He-Man. it will be scored like we do tactical, on rifle stages irons are against irons and scoped are scored against scoped. all he-man are scored together on other stages. this does not give you, an iron shooter, a disadvantage. rule changes are a fact of life in this game... jj
  13. Not sure at all about IPSC, but most IMG rules state something to the tune of "factory configuration" for Tactical or Limited. Technically, a mod of any kind is not factory configuration, unless it is available from the factory. So to answer your question, you need to look into it closely, least you find yourself shooting Open. (which ain't a terrible place, really!) jj
  14. Some updates: Just wanted to let yall know, stages are developing well! 9 stages total. 3 stages, one each, rifle, pistol, shotgun. 3 stages, two guns each, rifle/pistol, pistol/shotgun, shotgun/rifle 3 stages, three guns each. Rifle shots out to 400 yards, pistol shots could be out to 50 yards, shotgun will have flying clays and slugs out to 50 yards. Rough guess right now is about 150 rounds of each, including maybe 25 slugs. All stages will be field courses, run and gun, make lots of decisions on the run, no standards, no box-to-box! Get your applications in soon. Because of the nature of the match, we will need to limit the number of shooters. See yall in June! jj
  15. to paraphrase the world-famous KellyN... "I want all my right handed competitors to use right handed shotguns." I'm a lefty... jj
  16. Mark, The application is a Microsoft Word document, you need Word or Wordpad to open it. If you don't have either of those, PM me with your snail mail address and I'll send you as many as you want. If you do have Word or Wordpad, be patient when opening it, it takes a couple of minutes with my DSL line, much longer if you are using a dial-up connection. (must be our fancy logo...) As for Major/Minor power factor, there is no such thing in IMG scoring. The only thing close to it is He-Man class (Heavy Metal, etc) where its required to use the larger calibers in each of the 3guns. And for everyone, your gun and ammo choice must meet a bit of a power factor requirement anyway to put down steel plates, poppers, and make long range rifle reactive steel targets indicate hits, which we will have out to 400 yards. It also takes out the problems of having everyone go thru a crono stage, quite a time waster which would reduce the number of actual stages by one. Match plans are coming along well, just got a caterer! jj
  17. OK, here we go, been planning this for a while! We have secured the range, have a concept, have a website, and even a few stages! The Range: Pueblo West Sportsman's Association, Pueblo Colorado, 23-24 June 2007. 4 pistol bays, 4 rifle bays (out to 400 yards), one shotgun range with flying clays. The Concept: Choices!!! Tired of box to box, or engage these targets with rifle, these targets with pistol, etc? The website: http://home.earthlink.net/~johnson3gun/ Some details: 9 stages over 2 days. time plus scoring, 100 points per stage. Dedicated ROs (taking volunteers!). Trophys only, but who know? We already have 2-3 sponsors (and more are welcome!) Applications are not yet available but will be soon, watch the website and we will post it here. Don't miss this one! email: johnson3gun@earthlink.net jj & denise
  18. jhgtyre; Now that my wife and I have already sent in our applications WITH ONE CHECK ( we sent our apps in last wednesday, before the lastest change) what's going to happen with us? We looked everywhere to make sure one check was ok. What about all the other couples and small groups who want to shoot together? Say that one of them gets chosen and the other(s) don't? Why would you break up couples/shooting partners? this is just crazyness... Stick with the plan and don't change stuff mid-stream! So far, I think the Ft Benning method is the best; no overnite mailings needed, use the time/date stamp (after a certain date) on the envelope the application is in, and fill the match from the earliest time/date stamps. Simple, to the point, easy on everyone, (even the match staff), and no BS controversy. jj
  19. Hey Paul! Why the interest in ARs? You thinking about joining us crazy 3gunners??? You will like it... jj
  20. An ultra-sonic cleaner works great for the bolt & carrier... When assembling after cleaning I coat the entire bolt and carrier with break-free, seems to make cleaning a bit easier even when cleaning by hand. jj
  21. Does anyone know the guy that was building kydex holsters at this year's SMM3G? I need to get in contact with him... All I know is he is a rather big guy, and marks his holsters "BB" Thanks! jj
  22. Does the barrel stick out of the bottom of the kydex holster??? jj
