  1. I'm sorry Troy, but having the awards 2 hours after last shot fired IS realistic! What is not realistic is announcing at this late time that awards are 6 HOURS after last shot. Since USPSA waited until now to announce this, there will only be a handful of people there because travel arrangements are made. And I am sure there is someplace at the range... This (among other things) really needs to be reconsidered... jj
  2. Bruce; Scan them into a word doc or jpg and post em here as an attachment... jj
  3. here's a link to most of the rules used today. The 3rd one down on the page is the what the old SOF rules turned into, circa 2003 (I think used by SMM3G that year) and what most individual matches have based their own rule set upon. http://www.3gunrules.com/documents/multi-g...ules/img-rules/ there is a contact page on 3gunrules.com, so you might try and ask if the webmaster actually has an old set of SOF rules. jj
  4. All non-USPSA (read IMGA) major match rules state something to the effect of no speed holsters in Tactical divisions, but have NO restrictions on holsters in open. I've gone prone with my Ghost in SEVERAL matches and during lots of practice sessions, and RAN while carring a long gun as well with NO problems, thank you... the only way the pistol will come out is something has to flip the locking lever, hopefully just your finger when you want the pistol to come out. go prone with my race holster? you bet!!! Run with it? SURE!!! the kydex is definately easier to RE-holster hot under the clock thou, but not done very often. Re-holstering a Ghost is not that time consuming, but IS slower than a kydex. Althou the kydex is NOT fool proof! I have seen more than one fall out of a kydex while prone or during running. I have NOT seen one fall out from a Ghost, YET... Bottom line is, neither is perfect in all aspects. I choose to use my Ghost race holster because I feel it is MORE secure than a kydex, not because I want that lightning fast draw...most people can take a nap during my "speed" draws! jj
  5. I've been using a Ghost holster (on my Tanfoglio) this year with very good results! Very secure when locked, but easy to draw when you want it... last year (on my Para) I used a custom built Kydex holster (BB in Tuscon AZ) and it works well, long enough to cover the comp and goes around the scope. I also have a semi custom Blade Tech (longer to cover the comp for my Tanfoglio) but haven't modified it yet to go around the scope mount. I did use it for a while with a JPoint scope. jj
  6. Go ahead and use your steel jacketed Wolfe ammo on your own steel, but do not take it to a match unless you want to provide the steel targets. The notion that steel jacketed projectiles will not damage steel targets is ludicrous. And yes, if you are caught with steel projectiles at most matches, you will be encouraged to leave, for good reason. Steel targets are expensive, and the excessive wear is avoidable! please do not bring steel projectile ammo to Rocky Mountain 3Gun. thanks! jj
  7. You will soon discover that "how it looks" means very little in 3gun. Modifly the carrier so one more can be loaded there. Get the 26in barrel, and as long a mag tube as you can find. For uspsa matches, plug it to hold only 10, and IMG matches take the plug out. The other option is to get 2 tubes, one for uspsa (10 rounder), the other for IMG (as long of a tube as you can find). Having 9 in the tube, (if you get a 9 round tube) one on the carrier, and one in the chamber works ok, until you run across a stage (at a major match probably) where you NEED 11 rounds in the gun after the start and after shooting part of the stage! So my advice is, don't get a 9 round tube...putting one on the carrier under the clock would take WAY too much time, and I have never seen it attempted. jj
  8. Phil, A suggestion on squad scheduling; change the matrix to a squad shoots a stage, has the next block time off, then shoots another stage in the third block time, etc. The negitive to this is everyone is at the range all day. The pluses are many however, as 3gun takes a shooter/squad alot more time to prep for a stage compared to a pistol match, changing kit for the next stage, loading mags, etc. The match big picture will also flow better as the oncoming squad will be ready to go right after the outgoing squad finishes a stage... jj Rocky Mountain 3Gun
  9. uscbigdawg, I may be missing something here, but I think when you push the silver button to put one on the carrier, you can't add any more to the mag to top it off because the one on the carrier is in the way... Must be something in the water over there! jj
  10. I think it's actually 18.5 (ATF) but yes, an "18" is ok... jj
  11. your one-stop-shop for 3 gun rules; www.3gunrules.com for specific matches, see their websites. jj
  12. Don't read too much into the sling requirement... Its just a way to carry the rifle while you are shooting pistol. The rifle will be empty until you need it. 7.5 shot on poppers? probably ok... not sure about 20 guage thou (just kidding) jj
  13. That's right Jim. Thursday thru Saturday, 6, 7 AND 8 September. The match is getting closer to full by the day, probably will have to start a waiting list soon...so to stay off the waiting list, don't wait. Stages are pretty much set, we have 10 planned out and will be using the best 8 for the match as usual. Bring lots of ammo, at least 150 of each +35 slugs. Lots of longer rifle shots, 6 of the 8 stages will be multi-gun. (HINT: know your zeros! rifle out to 400yds and beyond, shotgun slugs out to 100, and pistol out to 50!) Bring a standard 2 point sling for your rifle. Prize table is coming along nicely... Shooter's BBQ is set for friday right after shooting, FREE for shooters thanks to Sabre Defence! Remember, all stages are in natural terrain and spread out over several miles of the NRAWC (6000-7000 feet elevation), so be prepared for bumpy dirt roads to stages (leave your Ferrari at home), have sun screen AND rain gear, bug repelent, water, etc. There will be a food vendor on site at the main scoring area/Coors Center for lunches. and BTW, this will be the 5th Rocky Mountain 3 Gun Match, Match sponsor JP Enterprises! see yall there! jj www.rm3g.com rm3gun@yahoo.com
  14. out here in Colorado we use MGM type flash targets and RnR Racing type targets all the time out to 400 yards and beyond. a few lessons we have learned: paint the target plate black. it is the best color to use in all lighting conditions for scopes and iron sights. DO NOT put a backer (big white sheet or the like) behind the target. the shooter will not be able to see his misses and adjust. this will piss off the shooters more than anything else. use at least a 68 grain bullet in 223 for obvious reasons. use a fluorescent orange flasher card. not green or yellow, etc. make sure the ro knows which target the shooter is engaging. yes, the ro must call hits so he must know where the shooter is going. so this ultimately puts the responsibility on the shooter to let them know where he is shooting. the spotting ro (not on the clock) must have good eyesight and probably a decent of binos. calling hits is all he does, from a comfortable seated position if possible. a scribe is also handy to mark down the hits he calls. hope this helps! jj
  15. that info was sent out in an email earlier, but basically shooters meeting is at 0730 saturday, first shot at 0800. same time sunday. registration from 1600 - 1900 friday and LATE REGISTRATION 0700 saturday. Should be done with shooting and awards by 1500 sunday. arrived at the range today at about 1300, set up a stage and moved a bunch of props, etc to stages for the big setup party tomorrow. if you are inclined we could use the help ttomorrow... free lunch! weather is gonna be hot and dry all weekend, so bring lots of water and sunscreen! we will have a caterer at the range for breakfast and lunch sat and sun, so no need to pack a lunch. 4H shooters will be here selling popsicles and iceceam as well as helping run the stages... jj
  16. Well all the prizes are here, the stages are on paper, prop count, etc is done... Its all ready to rock! Still have a FEW slots, if you want to come and haven't sent in your application, bring your check book and sign up this friday 1600-2000 at the range, or 0700 saturday morning. shooters meeting at 0730, first shot at 0800. see everyone in Pueblo! jj www.home.earthlink.net/~johnson3gun
  17. that might be ok for a tac light or something, but I think the 90degree offset will be too much for a sight. most folks mount a secondary sight on a 45degree side mount or on the handguard at about 2/10 o-clock (depending on right/left handed)... jj
  18. Never said my JP fire control system was faulty... It was a combination of the nut on back of the stock, and replacing the bolt with a lightweight bolt and titanium firing pin... Works great now! no slam fire OR bump fire... Hung, Before we trade I want to see you use one of the mil-spec units in your rifle in the next match you shoot, just to make sure they work. jj
  19. Yep... at the time mine was doing both slam fire and bump fire. jj
  20. OK, stages are posted on the website! Johnson 3 Gun Stages Slots are still available, see the website for the application. Its important to avoid last minute registrations for squadding, ro assignments, awards... please GET ER DONE! Hotels are kinda scarce now in Pueblo, but look in Fountain or Colorado Springs on Circle Drive. These are about 30 minutes from the range. jj Johnson 3 gun website johnson3gun@earthlink.net
  21. Since it appears that there isn't a Texas State 3 Gun match, why not just come to Johnson 3 Gun? We are holding a bank of slots for Texans, but get er done cause they are starting to come in and fill up your Texan slots! If enough of ya come, we could call it the Texas State... Pueblo Colorado, 23-24 June. Johnson 3 Gun Website Lots of choices, (like Texas State 3 Gun), lots of movement, lots of shooting! jj
  22. Otherwise known as "bump firing", sometimes happens to me on short hoser stages. Its all in the trigger finger and the way the rifle is held. At the height of my problem I could get it going then take my finger off the trigger and it would keep going for 2-4 rounds. The rifle had to be heavy (re; C-Mag in a mid weight 20inch upper) on a bipod and held loosly to allow it to get rocking. There was nothing wrong with the fire control system. (read, there was NOTHING WRONG with the rifle.) How I fixed it? A titanium firing pin, a stainless light weight carrier (IE, tuning the rifle to me) and just learning how to use it. It/I will still double maybe once or twice every 6 months, but it doesn't eat up a C-mag worth of ammo anymore like it used to. What I think happens most of the time is the mass of the bolt coming forward moves the entire gun forward and smackes the trigger against your trigger finger, the fire control system will have reset and is waiting for you to pull the trigger again and....bang....bang....bang! It sounds like it goes full auto because that is basically how fast a M-16 on auto fires...but actually you are getting just real fast splits! jj
  23. ... or straight from the mfg; www.betaco.com jj
  24. Trapr (and CMMG), I also hope the powers that be will change the "unloading on the clock" rule. But if you read the DPMS rules (which CMMG is using) they state that all abandon guns will be unloaded... As far as I know this is the ONLY set of rules that still has this... for the record, an abandon gun pointed in a safe direction (puts the burden on the stage designer first, then the shooter) IS SAFE, no matter if its loaded or empty, on safe or off safe. Muzzle down barrels work the best! And a match DQ for loaded not on safe abandonment is just crazy, it should be a procedural, but not a match DQ, because there is nothing unsafe about it if the stage is designed correctly. Match DQs are for major safety violations, not technical nit-picking... jj
