  1. I have done exactly what you are looking to do with my Open Glocks 17's. A guy who shoots at our club bought one the the "ultimate" type trigger kits for his Glock 17L. I fitted it for him. I compared it to my guns and in MY opinion I found it to be well................."disappointing" for the money he spent. I would caution against installing the light striker spring with the standard striker............I got like strikes with S+B and CCI primers, we can't get Federal here.
  2. I shoot IPSC 9mm MAJOR in Spain. I zero benchrested on a pistol rest or even a rangebag at 15 metres. This way you get a quick result using less rounds by eliminating human error i.e trembling. Then I check it shooting with my normal two handed freestyle grip as per a normal course of fire and "fine tune" if neccessary. I do tend to go slightly low and left unsupported. 9mm major shoots pretty flat so between 5 to 30 metres I pretty much have it covered. Different people use different methods, you need to find what works for you.
  3. Norincos in Canada are cheaper than Glocks. I have finished mine see the photo attached. Crisp 3 pound 1911 trigger, IGB compensated barrel, Dawson magwell, sidewinder slide racker, Weigand scope mount and Truglo red dot. Superb reliability and shoots like a dream. Very soft recoil mainly due to the weight as its all steel and .45acp accuracy with the match barrel. I have fitted Dawson base pads to the original mags that give me 17 rounds in the mag reloadable. However you have a 10 round restriction in Canada so hi capacity 9s and 38s are of no advantage to you. So for that reason I suggest a Norinco NP30 in .45acp 369 CAD for a blue one, with the modifications I have done to my NP44 (P14 copy) No screaming pocket rocket pressures, pleasant to shoot and you should be able to do it for about 1200 CAD.
  4. Check this out. A couple of solutions for you. An OKO frame mount. Blank with no frame holes drilled. Or a Weaver adapter so you could use the above WEIGAND mount with no drilling ? My link
  5. Do you need a WEAVER / PICATINNY rail for the OKO ? If so have a look at the link below. I have one of these on My Norinco NP44. The hole spacing looks correct ? Well made and very good quality. My link
  6. dot sight = not Limited legal. Yes correct it is an OPEN I.P.S.C pistol, 7 1/12 inch ported barrel. Regarding LIMITED I don't think any pistol with 7 1/2" tube would fit the box ? Correct me if I am wrong but I am sure I have seen some pretty nicely built LIMITED pistols with "melted in" red dots on this forum ?
  7. Well.................. I have a SEVEN AND A HALF INCH fat free Glock 17. It shoots like a dream. With 8.4 grains of Vectan SP2 and a 124 grain FMJ it EASILY makes IPSC major, and some.
  8. Hi I live in Spain and have recently ordered a few bits and pieces from Brownells. They tell me for the parts you want you have to get an Australian Import certificate. Then you send the original documents by post to them in Iowa. You have to pay a 150 USD fee (non refundable) and they obtain an export certificate to send your order to Australia. Have a look at their website it tells you all about it. Brownells international orders
  9. Those MAKO mounts are Israeli and look like they should be okay. Just an observation though. With that Weaver rail under the mount it won't make the Mako very "holster friendly" Have a look at the link below. The Fab Defence USM mount also Israeli is similar, except it is aluminium. So you could have the extra Weaver rail under the front milled off to make it holster compatible. My link I have bought one of these and I am having it milled and intend to try it. I have two OPEN Glock 17's. One has the Burris Fastfire 2 and the other has the CMORE STS. In use there is nothing to chose between them. But the CMORE gets the nod because you can change the battery without removing it from the mount. So then you don't have to re-zero.
  10. I agree, stock Glock sights are very poor. Even 15 years ago when I had good eyesight my stock G17 service pistol sights were not good. Now at 53 I have a Glock 19 fitted with plain black HEINIE sights. I find these nice and sharp for my old mans's eyes. But it is a matter of personal preference what suits your eyes. But yes the stock sights need to be thrown in the bin.
  11. Looks like you have a combination of things going on there. That first photo looks like a problem a friend of mine had with his STI Edge. Nosediving and failing to feed because the round could not slide up behind the extractor. One AFTEC extractor later problem solved ! We have also tried SPS mags in the Edge and STI Steelmaster. They didn't work.
  12. Yes I would agree 100% with Kevin. A friend has a 17L, I do not like it. It feels sort of "CLUMSY". A lot less "pointable" and slower than the 17 and 34.
  13. IMHO slide rackers are ESSENTIAL. With my Open Glock 17's I don't tend have jams so thats not really an issue. However for stages like empty gun, pick up off the table and load, they make those drills a lot easier and a lot faster. They also jack up the gun off the table making it easier and quicker to pick up............for me. Gas pedals ? Nope no use to me. I got short thumbs, I can't reach 'em. Magwells ? On single stack guns like 1911 with slab sided mags which are a tight fit in the aperture............yeah definately. Double stack mags are all TAPERED at the top so are usually are a pretty easy to hit the aperture with. But I have them on mine anyway............ overkill?........ probably. Slide mounted STS CMORE is great, very low in relation to the bore, great for close up targets and distance ones alike. Same indexing as iron sights.......... easy transition. I was shooting a friends SPS with a Quinn 2 mount and 8 M.O.A Cmore. Very quick also low on the slide, but I don't like the "blind spot" it gives on the left.............just my personal preference. Yes I suppose we can and do "over accesorize"
  14. The Glock is a good way to go, irrespective of the price. I currently shoot 2 different OPEN Glock 17's. Both have WOLFF springs and 3.5 pound connectors. All polished trigger parts with the dremel and jewellers rouge. Glock extended mag buttons and slide releases with plastic mag wells- IGB Austria scope mounts. One with a Burris Fastfire and the other with a CMORE STS. Arredondo and Taylor Freelance mag extensions. They both have IGB barrels. One is a 7 1/2" ported barrel. The other is a Steel compensated barrel. The 7 1/2" one EASILY makes major over the chrono at lower pressures. I am beating guys with STI and SVI guns every time out.
  15. I live in SPAIN and I am in the process of doing just what you are thinking about. NORINCOS are available from MARSTAR Canada right? I have a Norinco NP44 in 45acp. It is a copy of a Para-Ordnance P14. It uses Para mags which are a perfect fit. The big difference is that the frame is NOT cut for a ramped barrel, it has the standard 1911 non ramped barrel. Polishing with the dremel and some jewellers rouge, a bit of spring adjustment and two coils off the hammer spring I have got the trigger with stock parts to 3 1/2 pounds. The NP44 cost me 602 Euro NEW. I believe they are cheaper in Canada. I have on order, A Weigand Weaver mount 72 Pounds Sterling A Truglow 40mm red dot sight 72 Pounds Sterling, I can always change this to a CMORE railway in the future ? Two Arrendondo extended Mag bases 36 Euro, Big head Mag release button 12.50 Euro, An IGB Austria compensated barrel .45acp including export documents 380 Euro. I could have had a .40 S+W barrel using the same slide but I have all the reloading gear for .45acp. I already have an SPS aluminium slide puller that fits in the rear sight dovetail 15.50 Euro. So that comes to a grand total of 1645 in CAD, minus the mag extensions because you have 10 round mags ? These are European prices, probably a lot less in Canada? I will need the frame and mag button drilled to install the Weaver mount and the mag button so I don't know the cost of that yet ? I MAY get a Dawson Ice Para mag well 95 USD ? ProMag do a 170mm .45acp 20 round magazine for the Para..................next on the list ?
  16. Erik, you need Taylor Freelance 170mm mag extensions. They give you 28 rounds. BUT in my guns they do NOT like short length cartridges. Loaded to 28mm they are fine.
  17. There is a Spanish guy called Angel who shoots in our IPSC matches. He is in his late sixties and shoots a 9mm SVI in standard division. He isn't quick on his feet for obvious reasons and because he is retired, as a hobby he casts his own gas checked lead bullets and "rolls his own" 9mm rounds. He is a JOY to watch. He takes his time very deliberately and EVERY SINGLE HIT is an "A" zone. He NEVER comes last.................EVER, Normally about half way down the result sheet. Which is more than can be said for some of the "whizz kids" shooting .40 S+W major in the same type of pistol. By all means try MAJOR loads but shooting just for sheer enjoyment there is a lot to be said for MINOR.
  18. Barry I shoot I.P.S.C in Spain with two Open Glock 17's. One has a Burris Fastfire sitting on a weaver rail frame mount. The other has a CMORE STS mounted directly on the slide using the standard dovetail adapter that came with it. When shooting there is nothing to choose between the two, as the sight picture they both give is virtually identical. The only advantage that the CMORE has is that it has a sliding battery tray that comes out of the side at the base. So you can replace the battery easily and quickly without re-zeroing. The Burris you have to remove it from the mount. They both have switches. CMORE's is three position top located OFF,ON auto brightness setting and MAX brightness. The Burris has a side mounted switch OFF and AUTO brightness. They both work great on the auto setting in varying light conditions. Waterproof? I don't know. Both are of very high quality construction and up to now no durability problems. There is a similar sight made by TASCO the XT2 which is advertised as waterproof but I have no experience of that. I had the misfortune to try a cheap Chinese made "BSA" stamped one. It lasted 30 rounds of 9mm before the lens fell on the floor. You get what you pay for ?
  19. I have a slide mounted STS. In any event it does not matter frame or slide mount the procedure for zeroing is the same. Firstly make sure it is tightly and securely mounted to eliminate any movement. They have NO reference to any existing iron sights. They are completely independent. Set up a new cardboard target for example an IPSC one at 25 yards / metres Bench rest the pistol on your range bag on top of a table / bench. Place the dot in the centre of the target, fire 5 rounds centre hold each shot. See where they print and then adjust up / down, left / right accordingly Repeat another 5 rounds, see where it prints....................done!
  20. I have two Open Glock 17's. One with a steel compensated IGB Austria barrel. The second gun has a 7 1/2 inch IGB barrel with five ports at the end. The steel comp gun is slightly softer to shoot but the ported one has the advantage of easy stripping for cleaning, no removing and re-loctite the compensator. Both are EXTREMELY reliable with no issues. Nothing to chose in the accuracy stakes.
  21. I have a Taylor Freelance 170mm 28 round extension for use with my 9mm Glock 17 open guns. It does NOT like short rounds. My 9mm Major loads at 28.5mm long work perfectly. The shorter Arredondo 22 round extensions work flawlessly. They do not appear to dislike short rounds, the guns feed and fire just about anything I have tried through them with these magazine extensions.
  22. No problems so far with mine (photo above). Thousands of rounds, don't keep a count. I believe Angus Hobdell of CZ USA is running a slide mounted STS on a CZ 75. He says he has clocked up TWENTY SIX THOUSAND ROUNDS so far with no problems.
  23. I have an alloy compensator too. True you do not need a steel compensator but the one I have gives a bit more of a muzzle heavy feel. So the gun shoots a little bit softer. Not a bad thing. That surpressed Glock looks AWESOME !!
  24. Hello from Spain, 1st post here guys. I shoot I.P.S.C over here and I have two Open 9mm Glock 17's. They both have the same trigger jobs, polished internal parts and reduced power springs, same mag wells, extended mag buttons and slide releases. Taylor Freelance and Arredondo magazine extensions. Both are fitted with I.G.B Austria barrels. The Steel compensated one is quite clever. It uses gas ports around the outside diameter of the barrel to force back the steel "Impulse ring" against the slide like a piston. This opens the slide faster so you can use a STEEL compensator without machining the slide to lighten it. Shoots nice and flat too. This gun has the slide mounted STS CMORE red dot sight. The other G17 has a 7 1/2 inch I.G.B barrel with five ports. Over the chrono it typically gives 100 fps more than a standard G17. So with fine tuning of your hand loaded Major 9mm you can use slightly less powder, resulting in lower pressure but still comfortably make Major PF 160. This one has an I.G.B frame fixed weaver mount and the Burris Fastfire. Doesn't shoot quite as soft as the steel comp one but is very fast. I use once fired cases usually GECO or S+B with a 125gr H+N (German) plated TMJ bullet over 8.3gr of Vectan SP2. Factors out at 165 in the shorter gun. After using both I don't think there is anything to choose between the Burris and the STS. The only advantage the STS has is that you can change the battery without removing the sight from the mount. We all really envy you in the U.S for your available choice of after market go faster bits and being able to readily and easily buy them without licencing.
