  1. On the Kimber, activation of the grip safety raises a pin in the frame which engages a springed block in the slide. With the pin pushing the block upward, the firing pin is free to move. Just "pinning" the grip safety causes this pin to be permanently raised with causes the slide to not be removable. I just got into the habit of removing my grips and putting a piece of electrical tape around the grip safety on Friday night before a match. When I got ready to disassemble the gun I just cut the tape. To remove all this you would have to ..... 1) Remove the rear sight and remove the block from the firing pin channel. 2) Remove the pin from the frame. 3) Pin the grip safety
  2. Having watched the video and read the rulebook (but not an RO), the following is my opinion. Two (2) procedurals for the stage. I do not see where any advantage was gained by the positioning. In fact I would be hard pressed to come up with a position where faulting the rear charge line gives an advantage, but I am sure its possible. Personally, I think rear charge lines, especially as tight as these look to be are poor stage design or the result of lack of stage props. I agree with Vince that extending the wall a couple of feet and then placing the charge line would have resulted in a much more friendly stage. Since this was a club match and club matchs are not required to strictly adhere to certain rules, why not simply state the arrays had to be engaged through the ports and do away with the rear charge line?
  3. davidwiz, Nope! Thats the problem. All The Para Ord Pro Shop shows is pre-ban P14 magazines. Given all the hype we heard leading up to the end of the ban, you would think vendors would have been waiting on ready to cash in on the "Finally At Last Spending Sprees"!
  4. Jn, Unfortunately the NE Regional is not on my dance card this year. I started the year off shooting nothing but USPSA matches, then bent to the calls from all my friends who shoot SASS to come back, so my match budget for the year was pretty much blown early. Most of the majors (both SASS and USPSA) I have shot this year have been on a "work for entry" basis. SInce you are going to be on the East Coast anyway, stay the week and come down to Ashevile, NC for The Gunfight At Wolf Creek. If not catch you in the spring at Mule Camp. JD45, Lets be honest, to shoot cowboy all you need a pair of laceup leather workboots, a pair of jeans, a button up long sleeve shirt, and a hat, and of course guns and leather. The more costly B and C Western outfits are not needed. As to only one SA ..... well, from what I hear SASS started out that way and shooters being shooters wanted more rounds so it has evolved into two pistol game. Average stage round count is 23 (9 rifle, 10 pistol, 4 shotgun) very similiar to USPSA stages (except for the 3 additional guns). fomeister, your right on one thing.... swapping sports/games/guns tends you let you play a lot, but kills performance across the board. In the end there are only so many Sats and Suns to shoot club matches on, and only some many $$$ to be spent. We see very few crossover shooters in the Central/Western NC area between SASS and USPSA. The few who do are usually serious at one game and casual at the other, or burned out on one and switching to the other for a change.
  5. I found some. ArizoniaGunRunner.com has P16 LEO marked mags. They are $49, so I will be direct ordering bodies instead.
  6. Hey Joel, or should I say "Doc" Shapiro? 'round these parts they call me "Preacher Jim" and I am the happy holder of THE UPRISING (NC State Championship) 2004 Frontier Cartridge 1st Place Trophy. My personal belief in all this is what I have always said.... Gun Games are FUN! I like SASS, IPSC, 3-GUN, IDPA, and Skeet/Trap (though I suck at it!). I still believe that we all need to stick together and respect each other or we are all going to end up sitting at home knitting.
  7. On the SASS Wire, some cowpoke who just don't get it complained about the ad. Both jnshapiro and myself chimed in that "the us and them B.S. from gun owners has to stop" and "sold ad space is sold ad space". I like seeing USPSA and SASS living peacefully. Yes, in some ways they compete for the same shooters and shooters $$$, and in some ways they compliment each other, but if we don't all stand shoulder to shoulder regardless of what guns we own and what games we play .... we will all lose in the end.
  8. Rhino, its funny you should mention that. It makes sense anyway since the baseplate gets thrown away and replaced with a Dawson, the springs and followers..... But what makes it funny is that Para Ords website still says its illegal on the page where you buy tubes!
  9. I have been watching ParaOrd, Dawson, and CDNN's websights and no one is showing new standard capacity magazines for the P16 pistol. Does anyone know of a source for new magazines? James

    Puppies...

Remember the old saying about keeping your mouth shut and letting people wonder or opening and proving your an idiot...... well I guess this guy provided all the proof we needed. I figure the real story is that he had puppy in one hand and gun in other and missed the puppy and shot himself (yes, he deserved it!) and made up this dumb story to cover his butt. Now if he had just said, I had an accident, people would have mutter about his intelligence and forgot the whole thing. Now he is brand as stupid for life! Sort of like that "Gun Safety" demo on the boat ramp at 11pm that started with "Hey Ya'll Watch This...." Plus, what he was doing was just mean and karma has this funny way of showing up when you least expect it. Go Puppy Power!
  11. I'm still waiting for some idiot to grab some lady who reaches under her jacket and puts a hunk of lead in his groin! Proof positive the CCW works!
  12. Jerry Clower told that story many many years ago
  13. At the Michigan NASCAR Race on Sunday (Aug 22), Julie Roberts, an up and coming Country/Western singer (whose from my hometown) sang the National Anthem. Watching her, you notice that she keeps looking at the cue cards. This morning on the local C/W radio station they were talking to her. She said she was SOOOO nervous cause thats the one song you hear all your life and you can't mess up in front of 140,000+ very patriotic fans and a national TV audience. She admitted that she had cue card to both the left and the right and the words written on her hand! But she did a nice job.
  14. Another way around many of the US Local fire codes is to reload or at least store supplies in a "structure not intended for habitation" otherwise known as a shed, work building, etc. But in reality, unless you have a fire or explosion, or are a business, there are no inspections in most places. And the reason the laws are passed ... In 2003, a fairly well know regional gunsmith (largely concentrates on the SASS market) left his shop to go into the house. About the time he reached the door, the shop exploded leaving a massive crater and killing his father who was in the shop. In the ensuing BATF investigation it was determined that they had been using an old safe for powder storage (both smokeless and black). The rifle his father had been working on is thought to have delivered to the shop loaded and to have fired (a fired casing was found in the remains of the chamber). The investigators think the round peirced the safe and detonated some powder which in turn detonated the rest of the powder. Since the powder was stored in a safe, it held the pressure and let it build until the safe failed creating a massive bomb. Had they been using a simple sheet metal cabinet or open shelves this could have resulted in a very different (and maybe much better) outcome. Here amount was not the major issue, but storage method was. So regardless of what you can keep, think about how you keep it as well. One suggestion I have seen for a poor man's powder safe is to find and old magnetic door refrig, strip out the non-working refrigeration units. If something where to blow, the magnetic release on the door would fail not allowing the pressure to build.
  15. Hidalgo was a cool adventure movie. But the advertising of it as "based on a true story" was misleading since the story has been proven to be completely made up.

    Consultants

Consultant's Creed ... "If you can't solve the problem, there is money to be made in prolonging it." 10 years on the road as a consultant was enough, and now I miss it! James
  17. Does anyone know a good economical way to get rid of the bulge in brass that is shot from an unsupported chamber? I am tired of running ammo through the case gauge and throwing as much as a third out. Specifically I am looking for a solution for .40 brass. Thanks James
  18. Jon, I think Hot Shots is out of business.
  19. Cool, I will make sure the DVR is set. If you can elaborate, why did you get static about this particular episode?
  20. A " ... first chrono placed no less than ... and no greater than ..." rule would also allow MDs the leeway to setup based on whatever model of chrono they have/are given/etc. But competitors will always know that they have to make power factor at a distance no greater than X. I like that much better than specific distance.
  21. Hey, now.... maybe the shooter is just trying to protect their sunburned neck!
  22. The biggest problem is how do you cover a national championship, whether is USPSA, IDPA, SASS, or any of ther other shooting sports, in 30 minutes. Yes, Shooting USA came off like an infomercial, but I think they did a great job for a 30 minute slot.... other than taking 12 months to air. I would like to see the 2004 USPSA National coverage by both Shooting USA and Shooting Gallery. I think that the contrast in styles and formats would make for a fairly great overall coverage. Or maybe on of the two shows do an hour or two hour special on the championship matches. James
  23. Erik, I am helping him look for either Competition-ready aftermarket or factory guts to replace the junk ones. In some of the aftermarket standard capacity magazines he replaced the follower with the ones from the factory restricted capacity magazines, and they now work like a charm. If you pull the followers and compare them, the differences are very noticable. Actually looking at where he bought the magazines, the vendor lists them as Factory EEA built. The follower does not sit up as high as the factory restricted capacity one does, and the lock-open notch on the follower is non-existent. Basically I am just looking for "good" quality parts to help him get these magazines running reliably so his wife can start shooting with him. At least until Sept when hopefully factory standard capacity magazines will become available once again. James
  24. A friend bought some aftermarket magazines for his wife's IMI Baby Eagle in .40 SW. The followers on these magazines are junk. Does anyone know of a vendor who carries magazine parts for these magazines? I have been told that CZ parts are .... compatible. Does anyone have any experience that can prove or disprove this? Thanks for your help! James
