  1. Carmoney, Guess I've been too much a traditionalist but you've got me thinking. Everyone here has been in search of the "Holly Grail" of triggers. Seems like until 1/2lb is reached reliabily the quest continues. Funny thing a few months ago I used a new 627 in a steel match, gun was new to me but the previous owner didn't do anything to it...bone stock...12lb trigger. I won the match by 8 seconds, a land slide. Don't get me wrong that 12lb trigger was stout but in the heat of the moment I really didn't feel it. Most of my revolvers are in the 6-7 pound range but very smooth. My questions are: 1. Bobbing the hammer a 625 with a 6lb trigger might have what effect (in your opinion) on the trigger pull? Just looking for an estimate not a guarantee . 2. How do you post expandable thumnail pictures on the forum like the ones you did here? I know how to post links and pics, but the thumbnail ones are pretty cool. Thanks
  2. How does a Lee Factory Crimp die help? The problem was sizing not cripming. The base of the case wasn't getting sized correctly. Don't get me wrong I've always heard good things about Lee's crimping die but that doesn't help the situation here.
  3. I shoot revolver mostly and yes the brass does expand in this area. There is a moon clip that goes around the extractor groove then the problem area is just above it. Granted some of my cases are getting pretty old and perhaps that could be some of the problem. Now that the sizing die is adjusted for it's maximum ablility most of the case are now being sized correctly. Time will tell if I run into any further problems with these cases. For my 1911's these rounds chamber because of the slides force but in a revolver it's good ole Mother Gravity and sometimes a push from the thumb, LOL. Man it took me forever to see what the problem was in these rounds. Now that I know it seems so simple. It's a new revolver so I was eliminating one variable at a time then bingo the solution!
  4. I used WST in both revolver and 1911's. It's a good powder. My 1911's I used a 230gr FMJ and revolvers got a 200gr FMJ. Swithed to Titegroup and have been pretty happy with it but am now expiermenting with Clays. Looking for a fast powder that feels soft shooting the 230gr RN FMJ. Overall WST metered the best but was dirtier than Titegroup.
  5. Okay I'm pretty sure I resolved the problem. I accidently changed the adjustment on the sizing die when I changed the primer punch adjustment in the die. Now having screwed the sizing die down to the shell plate it appears to have solved the problem. I took a couple rounds that were sized incorrectly, pulled them apart and resized the cases. Now they fit. Still it appears that the RCBS sizing die only resizes about 90% of the length of the case. For now things look good. I left the post here rather than deleting it as perhaps it could help someone else.
  6. Who makes a full length 45ACP resixing die? I have several cases that won't fit in the cylinder of my relovler because the base of the case is too fat. Reloaded 250 the other night and had 50 out of spec.
  7. Cuz, WST was/is the powder the USMC pistol team used. It's a very good powder for the 45ACP round. I used it for sometime before switching to Titegroup. I would think with your load it will be very close to Major. My guess is you will have to chrono because it's boarderline Major. Every gun is different. 4.7gr TG, 230gr FMJ makes major in my 1911's and just short in my 625 4" revolver (need to bump it up a grain or two). I recently picked up some Clays to try. Titegroup is a little snappy and many have said Clays is softer with the 230gr bullet.
  8. ...or how about the others listed in JohnRodriguez Area 2 thread. Where'd they all go?
  9. I'm in, shooting 5" 625 Major. Wow I thought there would be a dozen or so shooting wheelies. Did everyone get shut out? Haven't heard from a couple buddies of mine yet. I know two of em didn't make it, three more arre possible.
  10. Area 2 Nov 10-13..... Who's going? What are you shooting? Major or Minor? Rumor has it the match filled up in 4 days.
  11. I considered the short colt but went with the long colt (Starline brss) for my 627. I know many have never had a problem but it's a long jump to the forcing cone. I'm still working with powder and bullet weights but lately have been using 3.5gr Titegroup with 158 RN FMJ. They definately load faster than a standard 38spcl. It's a soft load but need to do more chrono work. I hope to get to the range this week.. The round is about the same length as a 45ACP while the short colt is actually shorter than the 45ACP. I'll share my results with you when I'm done testing.
  12. GRD FYI http://www.corrosionx.com/ I don't have any any connection with this company but started using their product after researching it. Most knives don't rust but this lubercant stops rust in it's tracks. I've been using it in my revolvers for action shooting and to preserve older blued guns sitting in my safe. email or call them for a sample it's part of their promotional marketing. Brownell's sells the product or get it direct.
  13. I was wondering if anyone has put together a summary of the NEW vs OLD Rules? I did a search and didn't find what I needed. If somebody has already done the grunt work it will save me some time. I know this was done early on before the final rule book was done (coouldn't even find that one), just wondering if it was updated. PLEASE for the sake of everyone lets NOT open up a rules debate. I respectfully request just the facts new vs old or a summary of the new rules. I admit up front I'm looking to save some research time on this one. TIA
  14. JohnRodriguez, if the group has room for more I can swing it this year. I think I can get two more revolver shooters to join me as well. I came over from IDPA this year but two of my friends have been shooting IPSC and ICORE for awhile.
  15. revchuck I agree. I visit AZ once a month an catch Tue Night Steel at Salado and have shot State and regional matches at Phoenix R&G. There isn't any shortage of shooters in AZ! Hope to shoot at Tucson one of these days but rarely am I there on a weekend,
  16. All hotels are in James Derichweiler's name & California IDPA Championship 3 hotels that have rooms on hold for the match are: Ayers Corona West Group Rate $99/night 1900 Frontage Rd Corona, CA 1-800-452-4990 Super 8 $ 60 to $65/ night 180 E Trird St Corona, CA 1-951-738-0888 Motel 6 $ $ 53.95/ night 200 N Lincoln Corona, CA 951-735-6408 As indicated earlier Ontario has plenty of hotels and a close by airport. More info will be on our website soon. http://prado-idpa.com/ I'd like to see more revolver shooters sign up, right now I believe we have about 10 pretty equally split between ESR & SSR. Autos rule the roost but we always get a fair amount of round gun shooters.
  17. f250sd sorry been traveling last couple days and missed your post. I'll get back to you on hotel info. Ontario, CA is just north of the range and since it's near the airport every level of hotel is available. There are others but let me check with the guy coordinating this info this weekend. I'll get back to you.
  18. Hope the fax didn't wake you up I am off to a match. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Never heard it but it came through in great shape. I emailed you my contact info regarding your offer. I like the idea of a charging No Shoot I was planning to make it a threat target but I like so I'll plan to use both. Have a good match. I shot an ugly one yesterday not sure where my head was, LOL. Ralph
  19. WOW you guys are comming up with some good stuff . I really like the idea of a decicated photographer shooting stills and video. If a professional doesn't work out maybe an aspiring college student studying the art. An organized parking lot with directions is a very good start which could be emailed to everone prior to the Championship. Our matches usually have an abundance of REAL props, cars , mailboxes, airline seats, stairs etc. Our State championship will be awesome, not a theme park but real props adding value to the scenarios. Just found out today we are going to get a Huey helicopter to work with. Could make for a very interesting stage....your at the airfield touring a military display including a helocopter when all hell breaks out you use your sidearm to protect yourself and property, dropping to prone dispatching the first three gunmen at 20 yards, you notice several more duck into the building with your daughter as hostage, you call 911 on the pay phone and come under attack again from the window of the building (payphone is an activator), you take low cover behind a 55 gallon trash can return fire and enter the building to rescue your daughter (could even be a dimly lit building requiring a flashlight)...... Now where's that pilots license, is air support legal for IDPA, LOL! Keep the cards and letters comming guys!
  20. Plate Rack 35 yds, Ltd. Vickers Load only 6. Would make a good standards type stage. RWMangus, where is your state match going to be? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> SoCal where the LA Olympics were shot, check website http://prado-idpa.com/
  21. Larry Vickers Mini Monster Standards Par Time Limited Vickers 36 rounds Max 180 points possible If you want it get me a fax number for 2 pages. Regards, Gary <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Check PM.
  22. Thanks guys keep the ideas comming. at our monthly matches we get to shoot 8 stages which is the most of all the local clubs. The State Championship will be 10 stages and yes Standards will be included. The directors really want to make the Championship special so we're pull'n out the stops. I love the comments posted so far and many have been already considered. While the final stage designs haven't been made and I'm still looking for suggestions is there anything other than stage design and suggestions already made that really seperate the men from the boys?
  23. My question is, in your opinion what distinguishes a State Championshio from other matches? In other words what do you want in a State Championship? I'm looking for feedback from other IDPA shooters what they feel makes for a memoriable match ....other than winning their class! Thanks.
