  1. RGS, Yes I'm familiar with the Weigland sight conversion and seriously considered it at one point. Too bad their trijicon sights are discontinued. I had inquired about them back around the begining of the year. I do think this is a good sight system just not convienced I need to change the sights frequently. I shoot a gold bead and it's about the best going in a variety of lighting conditions. Ahhhhhhhhh the 325PD one of my favorites. Don't own one yet but it's on the short list. Don't think I've been good enough this year for Santa to have an extra for me but soon it will be in the stable.
  2. Okay check this out: http://www.arizonagunrunners.com/Products/...meprolight.html I've thought about trying this MeproLight for my 625. They have both styles available ( insert and pinned). Page 11 is the pinned version as in 625 but no picture is available. My problem is I've been shooting the revolver so much I'm now use to the gold dot up front and the white outline in back. Like you all my other guns (read 1911's)have nightsights on them and when I go back to them the sights look very foreign. If you like nightsights I'm sure there are other options for the S&W orund guns as well.
  3. I've never loaded or unloaded a steel 610 moonclip so I can't compare them for you. I am familiar with both in the RIMZ product line. IMO the RIMZ 610 is still the most perfect clip in thier lineup. I say perfect because if it were any stiffer you would need tools to load and unload it. Guess it's just the realtionship of the hole size to the material around it. As far as 625 clips go I've been using their RIMZ 25 clip in my 625-8 model. It is as close as possible to the stiffness of the 610 clip that you can get. If you were just going to do casual target shoting I'd suggest the 625 clip. For steel clips I'd suggest getting high quality clips as the cheaper ones seem to get out of round easily and require replacement. What seems to be cheaper up front usually is more expensive in the long, run but it really depends on the volume and style of shooting you do. I've also found the tools that help you use steel clips can actually wear them out or bend the clips faster if not used correctly. Dillon or TK Custom will usually have all that you will need for steel and TKC carries the RIMZ stuff as well.
  4. Standard moonclip holders will work fine for the RIMZ. Some shooters use a belt sander to take down the fins about half way but it isn't necessary. Front sights are a very personal thing from what I see the gold bead up front seems to be one of the most popular.
  5. Who's using a V notch rear sight and likes it? What's up front to compliment it.
  6. Use the link posted earlier to contact Beckham Design. I believe they are still sending out demo clips. Most mail order houses carry them or just order directly from the designer. You'll love not having to use any tools plus they are priced right.
  7. Is it a night sight, 3 dot, fixed or adjustable etc etc ect for the S&W revolver? I did some research after asking here but couldn't get a good picture of it.
  8. Try the RIMZ no tools required to load or unload. great for speedshooting IDPA etc or just target shooting. http://www.beckhamdesign.com/html/speedloaders.html
  9. I like the fact you can see other penalties in addition to points down. I don't like the sorting method. As others have stated seeing it sorted by Division then Class is a much better way to go. You might already have this capability. It's an interesting and timely thread...still looking.
  10. Good choice of grips, LOL! But then again I'm a big Jerry M. fan. Have fun this weekend. Nice holster as well. Couple quick things. 1. I'm guessing you reload already .40 cal is what to shoot for IDPA 10mm is way over kill (buy very fun). 2. Try to find round nose bullets (Berrys or others) as it maks reloading faster. http://www.berrysmfg.com/categories/14-0.php 3. Try the RIMZ moonclips. You don't have to spend any money for loading or unloading tools. The 610 RIMZ is one of the best models available due to it's stiffness. It will give you the "Feel of Steel". http://www.beckhamdesign.com/html/rimz_610_faq_s.html 4. IDPA load 4.0gr Titegroup 155gr HBRN (hollow base round nose) makes 135pf. 5. Dillon offers revolver accessories and they suppot alot of IDPA matches, ie moonclip holders. Standard reloading disclaimer please consult reloading manuals what works in one gun may not in another. Play it safe and work up to the load that works best in your gun. Welcome to SSR! Keep the reloads smooth and the cylinder in motion but most of all wear a smile and have fun!
  11. Thanks for the link very informative.
  12. I also agree. I can't really judge speed WHILE shooting but after the fact it's clearer. When I'm performing "in the zone" (not often enought) it feels like it's slow motion but the times are usually really good. Hard to describe but I understand what you're saying. At the point where I'm at now it just helps if I go into the stage with a concious thought before the buzzer to "keep the speed up and watch the front sight". I fall victim to cadence shooting instead of breaking the shot at the moment the sights are good to go. Thanks for the input.
  13. Yep I 100% agree a down zero is a down zero anywhere in the circle but old habits die hard. Guess something in the greymatter is programed for X's. Can't explain why but I know sometimes when I see what I need to see from the sights I don't break the shot at that point there's a slight hesitation. That hesitation I call dead time really adds up over lots of stages. So now that we've identified the problem, HOW do ya FIX IT? I've recently gone to videoing each stage in a match and boy that tape tells the truth. Don't get me wrong I'm pleased with the progress but have a long way to go.
  14. Wow I hate to muck it up being an IDPA revolver shooter but here it goes anyway. Being a SS in SSR I really don't feel very qualified with all the Masters and GM's that hang out here but I do try to be a good student and learn from those more accomplished at this action shooting stuff. This has been a battle with me all year...speed vs accuracy. Generally speaking I shoot 90-95% points in all my matches. I'm generally very pleased with the points but not so with my times. At my level I have to think speed. Too many times I hold off the shot after seeing what I need from the sights just to get a better down zero hit. Okay I told you in advance I was going to muck up all this A, B, C hit stuff with IDPA lingo. Just shot another match tonight did well in all but one stage just fell asleep at the trigger in the second half of the stage and shot way too slow. First half went fast and both halfs were the same in the accuracy department but the time ate my lunch! Last month shot IDPA Natl's finished 4th 297.30 -51points. 3rd place was 292.82 -82points and the winner was 291.73 -90points. My accuracy was about a 15-20 second advantage but I still got smoked. Granted it was a tight competition 18 satges and some 230 rounds but 4th is still 4th. Man it's sure hard to feel like speed isn't important with results like this. It's been the same story all year. 12 months ago I came into IDPA from a bullseye background and everyone said great cause you know how to shoot and speed will come. I'm still waiting!!!!! Hey I know it's only been a year and only 7 months with the round gun thing and these things take time but I'v never been real long on patience. I'm pretty pleased with my progress so far, but I gotts ta say (from my expierence) "if ya shoot'n all A's (down zeros) ya shoot'n too slow!
  15. As others have stated depends on the intended purpose. Assuming it's for action shooting I prefer a smooth hard grip (ie: wood) no finger grooves. Personally I use the Miculek grip and love it. Grips are a very personal thing and you should delay your purchase until you have tested many from your fellow shooters. Revolver shooters will gladly let you try theirs on for size so take advantage of it before jumpiing in to buy a set of grips. As for hand postion you're on target. Get the grip as high as possible and depend on the support hand for about 75% of the control. Welcome to the forum!
  16. Airedale thanks for the info. My plans are to try the Bushnell HOLOsight. You've really got me thinking C-More also. The Bushnell is basically free using Cabella points so that's a lay up. Two bills for the C-Moore is reasonable if that's the hot ticket, certainly doable. If I was spending cash for the HOLOsight I'd go Eotech no question but I think the commercial unit will work fine. I was also going to expierment with a tube sight Simmons or Tasco but I'm going to hold off on it leaning towards the C-More. Having never used a C-More is there anything special I should know about mounting or zeroing it?
  17. WOW that's interesting "expoxy bedding" the base to the gun. Why did you go this route (retention problems?)? That looks like a pretty good scope thanks for the info.
  18. Another bump for info on the Doug jones mount. I will have to use a rail or weaver base as my application for a red dot will be on a revolver. Research indicates the EOTech is a higher quality unit than it's sibling the Bushnell Holosight. Still open to suggestions as I haven't made a decission yet.
  19. That's a good point about the batteries but only if the overall unit is smaller. I shot the AA version on an AR15 during a demo and really liked the sight. Only wish I had played with the sight alittle more. Guess I was having flashbacks getting the opportunity to shoot an AR15 again, too much fun! Too bad our CA legislators don't have enough real work to keep them busy. Anyway I'm leaning towards this setup for the revolver.
  20. LOL when is money never a problem??? I've got Cabellas points for what is effectively a free Bushnell Holosight. Now mind you those points could always be used for something else. Just wondering how much difference there is between the two? Also keep in mind it's not going to war just on an Open Gun to have fun with.
  21. What was Jerry shooting in that competition? Is the EoTech/Holosights the same as the Bushnell HoloSight? They look pretty similar!
  22. I hear ya on the C-More situation. Not having ANY expierence with Open Guns or optics I'm most likely going to follow the crowd on this one. I've done business with Shooters Connection before and that is a good price. Is the Bushnell HoloSight Red Dot Sight too large a unit for a revolver? Just wondering if anyone has had expierence with it. edit: Airedale what MOA on the C-More did you order?
  23. I'm looking to set up a S&W 627 V-Comp for Open Class in ICORE and need suggestions/recommendations on what would be a good red dot to put on it. Anybody have a set up they like?
  24. Those who have mentioned the Arredondo peg for the CR Speed holster where can it be purchased? edit: Did a web search and found it.... question answered.
