  1. Okay this thread is getting deep......grasshopper Reloads.... simple anything over 1.5 seconds is burning daylight! BTW that's one sweet looking PC revo pictured above!
  2. Actually that's not a bad idea along with proper eye protection. The training classes I've taken suggested and required this as well. I'm sure the SO classes were educational. Enjoy the match. Wish I was there!
  3. "Hat Ruling" okay give it up for the less informed!
  4. Looking at the Powder Burn Rates Uniques is quite abit slower than anything I've used in the past several years (231, WST, Titegroup, Clays). http://www.reloadbench.com/burn.html What advantages do you like from this powder for the .38? Is your 627 compensated? For me 231 was too dirty, WST was okay, Titegroup was more consistent, Clays is the cleanest. All of this was for the .45ACP platform I must admit. The .38/357 is new to me or I should say reintroduced to me after 20 years!
  5. Here's the measurements; 38 Long Colt 1.031" case 1.325" max OAL 38 Short Colt .775" case 1.180" max OAL 38 Spcl 1.155" case 1.550" max OAL comparison 45ACP .898 case 1.275" max OAL I'm very interested in working up a load in the 38 Long Colt with perhaps Titegroup or Clays for a 627 V-Comp. I prefer a plated or FMJ bullet however. IMO the 38 Long Colt might just be the ideal cartridge as it gives more room for powder than the 38 Short Colt, gets the round closer to the forcing cone and is very close to the OAL of a 45 ACP (the ultimate reload round). I've been researching the 38 Short Colt and while it's the shortest OAL of the bunch it seems that many feel it cretes more problems than it solves. The 38 Long Colt is basically a slightly shorter case than the 38 Special and I'm thinking it just might be the ideal reload ammunition. Any opinions or expierence in this area is welcomed.
  6. I'm so far down the wait list they would need a 200% cancellation to even get a shot at it Guess that's why it's an Invitational
  7. shred...very trick target stands! edit: a piece of angle iron welded to the front of the flat spot where the wood goes in will prevent bullets denting it sort of a bullet deflector. Murphys Law someone will shoot it!
  8. Hopalong, I'm an IDPA shooter, now also shooting ICORE and will join USPSA to do this - so yes your numbers are about right. 249 more members too go When you determine a date and location let us know. I will do my best to support it.
  9. Sam Where and when might this Southern Revolver Championship take place? I'm game and wish you the best of luck in getting the Open Division established. I think you would get some ICORE ans IDPA guys to participate. Revo shooters are always looking for good competition.
  10. Okay what am I missing hear? Forged vs MIM in a hammer... how can you feel the difference when shooting? I'm uessing if you swap out the hammer you should swap out the trigger as well?!
  11. I'm setting up a 627 V-Comp for ICORE right now. Do you shoot iron sights or electronic? Are you shooting a 158RN plated bullet? BTW I've heard good things about Randy's work from the folks at Hogue Pistol Range.
  12. Well yes and no. We now have +P brass which has alittle more wall thickness for higher pressures that the boys of WWII didn't have. BUT yes I agree with what you said.
  13. Anyone using Titegroup or Clays powder for thier 38 spcl or 38+P loads? I'd like to hear about your results.
  14. Are you referring to Mainspring or rebound spring? It's gotta be mainspring. Who would want a lighter rebound spring? I want the rebound to be twice as fast as I can pull the trigger, LOL Jerry has a spring package and sells it as a kit. http://www.bang-inc.com/products.htm
  15. If you follow Jerrys advise on his video you'll wind up with a very nice competition 625. I left the spings stock but did put at extended firing pin in my 625. While it will shoot Winchester primers I use Federals. As far as triggers go that's a very personal item. Try several if you can before changing it out. I prefer the stock trigger. And yes the stock 625 being delivered these days is pretty bad. I almost declined my last one feeling that an angle grinder would be needed to whip this bad boy into shape . Still the platform is awesome I just wish the S&W boys would spend an extra 5 minutes smoothing thigs up abit before sending them out the door.
  16. If I get into the S&W match I'd sure like to see your sight set up. Been toying with the idea of night sights on my 625's. Not really convienenced it's necessary because they are IDPA and ICORE guns, not CCW. Rarely shoot night matches and the gold bead white outline combo work pretty well in most conditions.
  17. Well partner ya gotta go with the flow and if bigger and stickier works just do it. They never ask how, just how many!
  18. Pierruiggi.... just wanted to say nice post, very thoughful and informative post
  19. Well Spook is one heck of a shooter so I'll not argue with success but that's one U G L Y grip,
  20. RogerT I agree it shouldn't have left the factory this way but it really isn't worth the postage to send it back for just this. Some say they don't have the skills to work on their weapons but if you can shine your own shoes you can fix this problem. You are not recutting the forcing cone just cleaning up the edge. Even if it were perfect you'd still have to "break" the 90 degree edge cause they are all sharp. Use a ceramic stone or fine file to works doen the burr then stone a slight angle on the outside edge so you don't cut your fingers on the reloading. Same goes for smoothing up the innards use a stone to take out the tool marks on parts that contact each other. It's just a light stoning or smoothing up of the parts. Basically it's a quick way to get the same feel that 6-8K rounds would give you. If you're new to working on revolvers do a search here or at the S&W forum for help.
  21. Mine wasn't that bad, it sure looks ugly but as everyone said just file it smooth. I agree with Wildman cause it will cut you deep if you reload with weak hand fingers going through the frame. Don't wait for break in it should be done as part of the gun prep.
  22. RogerT Those parts can always be replaced. I for one wouldn't care for that look. Guess it depends on the price. 1000 rounds is nothing they usually need 3-4 times that just to break in. 625 is a great platform sounds like you've looked it over pretty good if it's a good price go for it.
  23. Pretty solid for a beginner. My dry fire times are always faster but live fire 15 yards 2.5 seconds on average. It's competitive but needs to be faster. The more I practice the smoother and more consistent I get. Top shooters will be under 2.0 seconds, you do the math. Yes chamfer the cylinder holes everything within the rules that speed things up just do it. This one is a no brainer. The 625 platform is about as fast as it's going to get.
  24. RGS He also sells previously installed or blemished mounts on eBay both blue and stainless. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...7111623388&rd=1
