  1. If you alphabetize them it would be nice if you added a tag to the listing that says something like "Forum Dealer since xxxx". Kind of gives customers an idea how long you have been around.
  2. Why don't you just have it the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and then only 10-15 people would attend and it would be real easy to administer the match. It could just be 1 or 2 stages and you would not have to buy very many trophies because there would not be 5 people in any division. You could also charge $500 entry fee and that would also keep the entries down. Area 4 used to be the second highest attended area match now it is the worst, can't imagine why.
  3. Nope. No powder, primers, or bullets. Too much bulk and no markup to carry 1200 miles down the road.
  4. I doubt that Dave did anything to the frame to blend the safety in his enhancement package. If you use a stock STI safety it will probably fit without having to modify it externally. STI does not do a lot of modification to the area of the frame around the grip safety and thumb safety when they build the gun.
  5. Dude, what in the heck are you talking about? If you read it closely you will understand. What's a "hammer sear safety"? Three parts that when installed together usually fit. You generally can't take the safety out of one 1911 and put it in another and have it be safe. You can if you install the hammer, sear, and safety together as Jamie suggests. This will generally work. Making what flow around the beavertail and grip safety? A thumb safety can ruin the finish on a gun? Huh He said making the safety flow around the grip safety can cause damage to the finish which it can if you fit it with the safety on the gun. If what isn't matched at your grip it will cut your hand? The thumb safety that is being installed. Why would anyone cut into the gun finish (he never said it was chromed, I don't think) to fit a thumb safety? The easiest way and what gives the best fit is to blend the safety, frame and grip safety with the safety installed in the gun. This is how I do it on every gun I build. If you have a gun that you are replacing the safety on you have to be careful of the finish on the frame and the grip safety so you do the fitting while the safety is off the gun. You can get pretty close but it takes longer.
  6. Winchester small rifle primers.
  7. Hodgdon sent me a pound to do some testing with. I thought from seeing the load data that it might be a little fast for what we need and the testing bore that out. 7.0 gr with a 125 gr zero at 1.23 OAL gave me 1309 fps and produced a little primer flow 7.4 gr gave me 1352 fps and quite a bit of flow This is in a Pro SX in 38super. For comparision in the same gun to get 1360 fps I use 10.8 gr of N105 or 9.6 gr of 4756 with no pressure signs. This would indicate that this powder is much faster and creating a lot more peak pressure. It is quite dense (filled the case about halfway) and would probably work for 9mm but I think would still be running quite a bit of pressure.
  8. Siphon, If you are trying to convert a Serendipity to work with the Slipstream mount here are some instructions: Convert your Serendipity The socket head screws go in from the top but you have to drill the holes.
  9. You can call us at 1911 store at 254-622-2245. We can answers your questions about what works with what and we shoot, are a dealer on the forum, and support the sport also. No one can answer your questions on the phone about whether the mags will be legal without measuring them. We can tell you how to measure them. About 95% of the STI mag bodies will be legal with the SNL pads, the SV's will quite often be too long to fit the gauge. The SNL pads are a little longer.
  10. It would also allow USPSA limited shooters to shoot standard without having to have all new magazines, their 140mm mags would work just fine. It would also allow the open shooters to use their 171.25 mags in an ipsc match.
  11. Just found this info: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=2434 The way I read it the patent expires 20 years from filing or 17 years from issue. That would make it expire in 2012. Design patents run 14 years.
  12. I asked Dave Skinner when I saw him at Nationals and he said it expires in 2011.
  13. The extra material on the back is so that you have enough to blend it with the slide. Slides vary in shape and length at the area around the end of the extractor. They also vary depending on how much material was taken off when the original extractor was blended in. Better to have too much extractor so that you don't have to take any off the slide. I would mark it and take it out of the slide to modify - go slow and fit back in the slide often so you don't take off too much.
  14. Taking material off the bottom works if you only have a few thousandths to go. If the sight truly was 0.2 oversize you would have to take material off the dovetail of the sight and would really need a mill to do it properly. If it was 0.2 oversize either your dovetail in your slide is odd sized or you got the wrong sight from Dawson.
  15. It's quite common to fit the safety/sear that way. It should be a square cut on the sear though. If you are going to fit a new safety square up the cut and then fit the new safety. It should be fine.
  16. We make a shield for the 2011. For a 1911 your best bet is EGW. They make a nice one that attaches by replacing the plunger tube.
  17. Generally you should use a 9mm/supercomp Aftec with a 38 super slide for 9mm. The problem is that the Aftec in 38 super and 9mm/supercomp indexes on the extractor groove not the rim. The rim on supercomp runs around 0.385 the extractor groove 0.329. The rim on 9mm varies from0.386 to 0.390 depending on headstamp, the groove varies from 0.334 to 0.344 depending on headstamp. Extractor tension will vary depending on the combination of breechface width, extractor groove and rim size. The location of the extractor tube in slides also will vary somewhat which adds another variable. So sometimes the Aftec extractor will not be a drop in part, you might need to try both 9mm and 38 super and see which works best in your gun. If you are curious which Aftec is in your gun you can measure the end of the extractor across the hook (side to side) 38 super runs around 0.150 9mm/supercomp runs around 0.135.
  18. I think it turned out pretty good. It is designed around shooting WWB 9mm and I would stick with that. Gun weighs in at a little over 39 oz., the slide weighs 9.4oz and it uses a 5 inch light recoilmaster for the bull barrel (full length plug). I think a heavy recoilmaster would be too heavy even with major loads (but I have not tried it). And of course we have them in stock http://www.brazoscustom.com/sti_guns/sti_steelmaster.htm Feel free to call if you have more questions.
  19. Actually what you were told was that we are too busy building guns to do that type of work (which is the case). I have this conversation several times a week: "I have this gun and want you to cut holes in it". I would hope that no one that knows what they are doing would "cut holes in your slide" just to make a quick buck. If they duplicated our style of cuts they would look like crap on that gun and the holes would create nice little stress risers at each junction with your front cocking serrations. I won't take on jobs where the final product reflects poorly on my work whether the customer wants it or not.
  20. First thing I would check is to make sure the sear spring is in properly. It sounds like when you put it together the left leg of the spring is off the sear. You can take the thumb safety and grip safety off and see if the sear spring is in the right spot. It is real easy to get it back together with that leg of the spring off the sear. If that does not work give me a call.
  21. I believe the special conditions you quote applies to handguns not parts. Read #19 Handgun specifically approved for Division Yes - see special conditions
  22. If you can move the slide stop around easily it is possible that the plunger is not contacting the slide stop at all. Short plungers or plunger tubes that are not machined correctly are pretty common. If so the dimple won't do any good. Check that first.
