  1. Oh, please. We were doing moving reloads in IDPA for years. That other shooting sport has been doing moving reloads for decades. Moving reloads can be done safely.
  2. Have your gun up before you get to the position. Lots of people lose time by getting into the position with the gun down, stopping, then bringing the gun up. Don't duck back behind cover to reload. If you are behind cover to shoot, you are behind cover to reload. Plan your shots and know when your gun will run dry. So many shooters run dry, then waste 1/2 second realizing that the gun has locked back before starting their reload.
  3. If he didn't go prone because of physical limitation, then it is a PE. From the rule book: 7.1. Permanently physically disabled shooters who choose not to, or are unable to perform an action required by the CoF (kneeling, prone, etc.) will receive one (1) PE penalty per action not performed. If the shots cannot be taken safely or the targets cannot be acquired from their position of ability, they will receive one (1) additional PE penalty per target. No points down or FTNs will be assessed.
  4. On one of the stages, you are at right cover and run dry. You then lean back behind cover to do your reload, and then lean back out. That is a time waster and is not needed. If you are behind cover to shoot then you are behind cover to reload. Don't shift back into cover when doing your reload.
  5. The gun that I see most commonly is a Glock 21.
  6. I've shot USPSA on 1/2 a dozen occasions. I have yet to see an overlay be used (or needed). I really don't see the need for it.
  7. The one that struck me as particularity crazy, was when I got a dinged for dropping a empty mag to the ground while not at slide lock... Mags are not empty unless the gun is empty? Hence my comment above about burning the 11th round in to the dirt... IDPA reloads and the rationale behind them are relatively well explained in the rule book.
  8. The only advantage to a paddle holster is that it is easier to put on and take off. They typically aren't as secure, tend to move around more, and tend to be harder to conceal.
  9. A lot of folks have had negligent discharges because they thought the gun was empty. Just as guns that people thought were empty are sometimes not, "the don't have ammo at the safe table" rule doesn't ensure that there is no ammo at the safe table. In other words, just because they shouldn't have ammo at the safe table doesn't give them a pass to point the gun in an unsafe direction. The whole point of a safe direction is so that if the gun is discharged, no one gets hurt. Safe direction is the final safety measure -- the last layer of safety.
  10. Because there are very few revolvers built in 9mm.
  11. If it truly does require all reloads to be standing reloads, then it is much worse than before.
  12. I shoot CDP. I don't have any problem with people using Glocks or M&P. The more, the merrier -- CDP is often underrepresented around here.
  13. I'd guess because they're not tacticool enough.
  14. I just don't see how fault lines could work. If there are three targets to be engaged from the right side of P1, then you would have to put down three fault lines. It just wouldn't be workable. S8 is a gem: You almost broke a rule, so here is your trip to the DQ. I hope all you guys can read minds, because my "almost" might be different from another SO's "almost."
  15. I'm sure that as a result of that rule, no one would round dump a round or two in the open so that they could then reload on the move.
  16. If it hadn't been obvious before, that should have been the giveaway. Even one of the hosts mentioned that a Colt SAA takes .45 Colt, not .45 ACP.
  17. It was so obviously a joke. I'm just amazed that people fell for it.
  18. I do the same thing, except that my barney mag is in my back pocket and my full mag is in my front pocket.
  19. I suggest you fix or replace your mag pouch. If you get a double feed, you will really want that other mag.
  20. ??? Wear what you want. You don't have to wear a vest. Wear a coat. Or a open shirt. Or a long polo over your gun. A while back a shooter came to a match wearing a sportcoat as his cover garment.
  21. They didn't do that on my 1911. They did check the functioning of the thumb safety and grip safety.
  22. As lugnut says, you will need to get a significant core group of people to help out. You will need help designing stages, building stages, checking people in, acting as an SO and ASO, scoring, and tearing down. You will also need some funds for target stands, targets, props, etc., and you will need some place to store them securely when not in use. You can start small, but you will need a core group of committed people to get it off the ground.
  23. I like the serrations -- they reduce glare.
  24. Still not a PE. And besides, you lost a bunch of time doing it, why pile on a PE?
