ive had good luck with 4.3 grs of w231 and bayou 160 gr RN with a COL of 1.555. PF runs about 128 but is still a soft load out of my GP100. I also had no issues with ejecting spent cases during my reloads. when i get some time i am going to experiment with some real light loads (around 3.6 grs of w231) to see how those are build up wise.

math aside, your best bet is to pick out a few good shooters who are "classified" above you and compare your match times to theirs. this will push you to get better and as you catch/pass them look for more shooters to compared your scores to.

so you built up the beavertail/grip safety for better engagement in your hand? or did you change the mainspring housing from flat to arched? you can swap from single to ambi safety, just be careful of the weight as you make modifications

just shoot a revolver and you wont have to worry about it

Pictures would help. Would you be shooting ESP or CDP? every thing sounds good for the most part. my concern is, what do you mean by "built up the back strap"? and what is the guns weight with an empty mag? 43 oz is the limit for ESP and 42 oz is the limit for CDP. its a personal choice honestly. sorry to hear your local IDPA club is rather small. my club has 8 stages, 100-120 shooters and round counts closer to 120-150. It sounds like you prefer USPSA so hone your skills for that sport and shoot IDPA when your interest allows.

way to go! i had a simular experience last year. I had been shooting SSP for two years and was a high MM. Classified in october for SSR with a brand new gun and borrowed holsters and speed loaders and squeaked into SSR SS. Happy shooting!

ive found that speed loaders are no more expensive that production mags, im running safariland comp III's with my GP100 and using pouches from CPWSA. your brass does land in a nice neat little pile so policing your brass is easy. If you have a buddy that you always shoot with you could have them pick up your brass and loaders too if your that concerned about it.

i got my extended one from Fusion. on my spartan. works great but required minor fitting.

Some of this data is interesting. Out of my P30L using 3.85 grs of TG, mixed brass, CCI 500 primers, Berrys 124 RNDS 1.115 COL i was getting an average of 132 PF. I also got an average of 127PF out of a USPc using the same load.

I used a P30L for IDPA for 2 years and went from novice to sharp shooter. You can be competitive with it, but it could greatly benefit from a trigger job.

seems i made a mountain out of a mole hill, ill go back to the drawing board and readjust as necessary.

the "slow" loads i shot were quite high, around 4 in high at 40 yards. this happened to me and another shooter in the same session.

I am shooting a 4" GP100 chambered in .357 mag. I am set up to reload .38 spl but i noticed that my gun does not like "soft" .38 spl loads. I cant keep my light loads (3.6gr W231 & 160gr LRN ~750 fps) on paper at 10 yards to save my life, including Remington 158gr LRN factory ammo. When i shoot remington 125gr +p ammo my POA and POI is spot on. My reloads that had higher velocities (4.3 W231 & 160gr LRN @ ~800 fps) also shot well. I only had time to do some informal testing for these loads and shot them free style and not off a rest. I would like to shoot the lower velocity rounds as i can get back on target faster, but its not necessarily a deal breaker for me. Now my questions are: Do i get my forcing cones re-cut for .38 spl or do i keep the gun as is and load for higher velocity? Do i get a new cylinder chambered for .38 spl and swap in with the old one? I dont have a ton of money to throw at this, just looking for some input and who ya'll would recommend for the work should i go that route. Thanks

my 4in gp100 likes 4.3 gr of w231 under a 160gr LRN bayou bullet at 1.555 COL, mind you the forcing cones are cut for magnum rounds. on the other hand my S&W 642 preformed well using 3.6gr of w231 using the same bullet and COL.

i use bladetech for all my IDPA holster needs.

i have shot a couple of matches with my kahrs P/K 9's. they are fun to shoot and you will get some funny looks (at least i did when i shot my K9 for fun) you would be in Stock Service Pistol (SSP) just be careful with what ever mag pouches you use. i was shooting a bug match and i had two rounds come out of the mag and stay in the holster...

i would guess that its esp because your essentially "adding" a flared mag-well which is prohibited in SSP

if you have a FL steel guide rod and swap it with an FL aluminum one you will gain about .9 oz back. you could mill out the underside of your grips a bit too. what mags are you using? dawson 10rd mags with al base pad are about .3-.4 oz heavier than my metalform 10rd mags with plastic base pads.

im using 3.85 grs of tightgroup at 1.110 and getting 131-133 PF out of my P30L i would imaging that PF would creep up to about 135 pf out of a 5 in barrel.
