  1. Back on topic: I took my M&P out today. I shot 3 different common bulk ammo, all 115gr FMJ; Winchester white box, Remington UMC and my regular walmart bulk Federal. I shot each group with support under my wrist, not under the barrel. I shot several groups of each totaling about 70 rounds for each manufacturer. The federal groups were between 5-7 inches, the Remington were between 4-5 inches and Winchester white box was the best at 3-4 inches. It was very windy, 20 mph + gusts. Even in a pistol bay with berms on 3 sides the wind was moving my targes a little. That plus my shooting fundementals were very bad at the start. As i shot, my groups got better. I think the gun is fine. I just need to practice more regular and shoot better ammo in matches. thanks for talking me off the ledge. lol.
  2. I bought some different ammo today. I will put a few hundred, supported, down it either tomorrow or monday and will report back.
  3. Yeah, i've tried different ammo. I have mostly shot the fed bulk since i got the M&P. The groups have opened up with the fed bulk. I will try some better ammo. I will stay away from the Rem UMC. My M&P has FTEs and fails to hold open on empty occasionally when shooting Rem UMC. In the meantime, any other ideas?
  4. That could be it for the black brass. I shoot mostly 115gr federal bulk. Any ideas for the group opening up?
  5. I've had my M&P Pro 9 since 09-2010. I've used it for 3 gun, about 10-12 matches plus practice. Maybe 1500 rounds. It has a dawson adjustable sight set. Otherwise all factory. Lately i have struggled with plates out past 20 yards and groups on paper unsupported at 15 yards are 6-8 inches, supported about 4-6 inches. I have read that some owners have complained about the recoil springs. When i first bought it, the groups were better, just very low. I fixed the low shooting with the dawson sights. I have noticed that my brass is very black. I don't notice others being so black. How can i determine if the recoil spring is worn out? Any other ideas for the group opening up?
  6. I mentioned in an earlier post Wolf slugs were shooting high and left. I tried Fiocchi 7/8oz low recoil and Remington sluggers. They both had 5 inch, 5 shot groups at 35 yards just high but centered. The Fiocchi repeatedly shot the tighter group and consistantly the same place.
  7. My 24" non-ported shoots 6-8" high and 2-4" left at 50 yards. Birdshot is just above the FO sight at 25 yards.
  8. So far, I have used the Wolf low recoil slugs and Rem Sluggers. Both are accurate. The wolf's low recoil is great for under 75 yards. The sluggers have a bit more range, so i use them when shooting 75+. I am wanting to try the fiocchi low recoil.
  9. I haven't had that much fun in years. Fun? 98deg, running up hills, borrowing shell caddies for 35 shot stage 2, running a hundred yards thru sand............ yep, i had a great time. This was my first big match. I have only been 3 gunning for 9 months, 10 matches, of local outlaw. I was in over my head, but i learned a great deal and met some great folks. Thanks to everyone.
  10. Bladetech has served me well.
  11. I can't tell the difference when shooting any shotgun. The ways i determine how a specific shottie recoils is by three observations. None are scientific, but they make sense to me. 1. How easy it is to get a follow up shots on target with slugs. 2. I watch others shoot different shotties and see how differently their shoulders move. 3. How sore i am the next day. lol. The sled is great idea, but how often does the casual shooter have a chance to use one. I guess there is some written data out there somewhere. Gunblast or someone should do a side by side sled comparison.
  12. So far my moss 930 has liked everything i put in it, Win Univeral 7-1/2 Federal field and target multi purpose 7-1/2 Wolf low recoil slugs, federal #5 high brass Remington Sluggers and a mix of other loads. I can look up the loads, velocity and such if you need it. all were 2-3/4". I shot them with both a 18-1/2" and 24" barrel. all good. Did you have it lubed enough? I like my 930 fairly wet.
  13. TLD is correct, "straigh forward but a PITA". The general install isn't bad, but there are several other tweaks that can drive you nuts.
  14. I had my 18.5" barrel threaded by Guncat, but i decided to go with the 24" non ported after a couple of matches. Recieved it yesterday. I haven't shot it with this barrel yet. Hopefully i will get it out this weekend. Guncat did a great job threading the 18.5. 24" non ported, with FO sights Nordic charging handle Nordic +4 extension Choate barrel clamp (i will be replacing this with a Nordic soon) Mossberg extended modified choke
  15. I ordered 2 friday from 44mag. I received them today. I just checked, they show 60 available.
  16. Guncat threaded a Moss 930 18.5" home security barrel for me a few weeks back. After threading, i was putting 2 slugs in an A zone of an USPSA target at 30 yards, repeatedly. One group two slugs made one big hole. #7-1/2 shot pattern was centered, 3-4 inches above the beed at 20 yds. So, i am happy with the work he did. Communication was fast and I received the barrel 6 days after dropping it off in the mail. Fast turn around and the work was solid.
  17. The price of the CZ was hard to pass up. I went with a 930 and happy about it. It is fast to reload, cycles fast, low recoil and not nearly as many parts as the Rem 1100 so maintenance should be easier. Overall better in all cases than my Rem 1100. I keep mine clean and lubed, so i haven't any issue with cycling. It is accurate with slugs. Last saturday at 40 yards, i put 2 slugs in one jagged hole. The other groups were almost as tight. It has cycled all loads i have loaded; low recoil slugs, walmart universal 7-1/2, Rem #5 high brass, etc. The gun shop i bought the 930 had a CZ712 utility. I compared them side by side. The CZ had a better barrel setup for 3gun and there are mag extension available. It wouldn't have been a bad choice. The negative was the weird forarm assembly and the stock seemed very cheap. I may have been fine, but the 930 seemed built better. The only negative about mossberg is the costumer service. It has good people, but shipping warranty parts is slow as Christmas. I had a small part break. They replaced it no problem, but it took a lonnnnng time to get here.
  18. yeah, it can go easy or bad. I have installed 2, one was a breeze the other was a major PITA. Best thing is to be patient and take off small bits at a time. Also, it is good advice to have extra roll pins. I found extras at TSC for a couple of bucks.
  19. Dont expect good customer service from mossberg. I bought a 930 that everyone was going nutz over. Got it home and a small part was broke. I got in touch with CS. They told me a part would go out the 7th. I have a shoot tomorrow but with another shotgun, because that part did not ship until the 11th.
  20. What is the barrel length on that shotgun? Looks shorter than 22". Mine is a 930 home security 18.5" barrel and a +4 nordic extentsion. I will shoot a couple of matches with it to see how i like it. It feels good, shoots great. I had to put a higher bead on it to lower the pattern and slug groups some. otherwise, i like it. The 930 is much easier to load than my 1100. I might still end up getting a 24" non ported later.
  21. Guncat = Rose Action Sports in KY. He charged me $65 for threading and return shipping.
  22. Here is my very new 930. Bought it last saturday, Monday sent to Guncat for threading. Got barrel back today. Thanks Guncat, great job. I added Nordic +4 extension, Nordic charging handle, Mossberg extended modified choke. Otherwise stock. I will shoot it at a few matches before i take a dremmel to the loading port or anything like that.
