  1. I have shot 3 gun and USPSA since 2009. I recently wanted to get into DMR matches. I shot my first DMR at K&M last weekend. I took my 16" 5.56 3 gun AR with a Vortex PST 1-6 Gen 2. I had the weakest scope at the match. There were static targets 300-520 yards with many of the 520 yard targets being 12" plates and moving targets at 150 and 300. I did ok, I had a lot of hits, hit all the movers, but it was hard making out the long shot coyote and bobcat steel targets, reading wind and seeing misses with a 1-6x. I was much slower than the better glass. I am building a DMR 5.56 DMR rifle. My 3 gun AR is for tac ops division (no bipod), minimalist, very light weight and set up for close paper to 500 yard full silhouettes. In DMR there is less movement and less swinging of the rifle side to side, I can afford and I need more weight. So the DRM rifle will have a better stock, 2 stage trigger, forearm with a rail and bipod. Which scope? I think FFP will be nice for scaling at any distance. Finding targets at max mag is difficult when ranging with a SFP. Budget: $900 Weaver 3-15x50 SFP mil, $450+/- SWFA 3-15x42 FFP mil, on sale now for $500. I am leaning to this one. Talk me to it or away from it. Weaver 3-15x50 FFP mil, $800+/- Vortex 3-15x44 FFP mil, $900+ Other?
  2. Vortex did, quickly, replace the Strike Eagle. I sold the new replacement to fund the PST Gen ii 1-6x. Thanks for checking in.
  3. I picked up a Vortex PST Gen ii for $560 new. I couldnt pass it up for that. I got it today and havent mounted it. The glass is very good, 2 fold better than the strike eagle. Less distortion at the edges and much better resolution. The PST Gii feels very well built, good clicks, good eye relief, great parallax, good red dot, etc. I'll post more after range time. Who uses the cute little sun shade?
  4. I contacted Vortex asking what they will do. If it doesn't work out with Vortex, I will probably get the C-more. @mattman @OPENB give some reviews once you shot yours.
  5. That is a good deal. I really like the reticle, very nice that it is set for a 200 yd zero and the range finder on the left. Maybe a bit pricey for SFP. It is a contender. Does C-more manufacture it themselves? Thanks
  6. I have used a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x for 2 years in 3 gun. It has just crapped out on me for the second time. I want to move up in quality. any suggestions? 1-6x, 1-8x, I prefer MOA, but mil is ok, budget $900. No more strike eagles.
  7. I've used a Blade tech DOH drop and offset for 7 years. It has never dropped my pistol in 60ish matches.
  8. I am fairly new to loading 9mm. I am loading for a M&P 9 pro. I've loaded a few hundred each of 115 RN Xtreme and 115 RN Montana gold with Bullseye. COALs have been 1.12-1.13 with good results. Recently I picked up some 125gr conical nose black bullets to try. The longest COAL I can get to fit a gauge or the barrel is 1.09 with 4.0gr of Bullseye. In my limited 9mm reloading experience, that seems short. Will this load be safe to shoot?
  9. Nice: I got my Stretch16 sniper gray mounted yesterday morning. All I had time to do was take it out for a function check. It is very soft shooting and it is easier to hold on target during double taps. This week, I am mounting a Weaver 4-12X and will shoot 100.
  10. I called Strong Side Tactical. After speaking to the owner, he answered the phone. I was sold. Last night, over the phone, I ordered a sniper gray non fluted minus a gas block. Very nice people and i have alredy received a tracking number. I'll report back after i shoot a few groups. Thanks for everyone's advice.
  11. I know the stretch 16 comes with a gas block. I run a low mass carrier, low mass rifle buffer, tubbs spring and a syrac adjustable gas block. Will the stretch run reliably with its gas block or will I need to keep my syrac for a low mass gas system?
  12. What do you think about the Spike's Lothar Walther barrels; 16", 1:8, wylde?
  13. Well, i tried 75gr hornady bthp and 77smk with rl15, cfe223, norma203b and a few others. My rainier medcon never shot better than 1MOA. Usually 1.5 or worse. Cold bore was close to MOA. Not so much after it heated up. I'm not against another rainier, just not a medcon. I am not wanting to bash rainier barrels, i just got a bad one.
  14. Last year i went with the Rainier medcon for weight. The medcon's groups go from around 1MOA cold to 2 MOA after a few shots. SO, i am leary of lighter barrels. I would prefer a lighter barrel, if i could get better results after heat.
  15. Are Rainier Match and Black hole barrels still considered good to go? What about WOA mid, wylde,1:7 from Brownells? Thanks for the tips on faxon and stretch. I am reading about them.
  16. I should add that I want mid-length.
  17. I am looking for a 16.5", match barrel for 3 gun. A budget of $350. I shoot 55gr Wolf Gold for inside 100 yard and home rolled Hornady 75gr bthp for beyond 100 yards. What do you have? What do you suggest? edit: I want mid-length.
  18. I shoot 3 gun, Tac Ops, and USPSA, 9mm prod in mostly local and some regional. I shoot a 9mm pro with APEX parts. I want to move to LTD in USPSA. I am debating between a S&W M&P 40 pro or some type of double stack 1911 style. They are two very different platforms with even more different triggers. I have shot the same pistol for 4 years. How hard will it be to shoot 3 gun with my M&P pro on Saturday, then shoot a 1911 style with a much better trigger on sunday?
  19. Someone didn't read the thread. Reread my posts. Everything you say I should try, I have tried (APEX, Dawson, etc). Those wouldn't help the rifling twist issues, 1:18 vs 1:10. Everyone knows about the long list of issues the M&Ps had in the first 3 years. I didn't say I wanted a race gun.
  20. Update: It took a while to get a shipping label. They lost my first ticket. Once they figured it out, I got a shipping label quickly. I sent the pistol to S&W on 8/15. I received the repaired pistol today. The paperwork said, they replaced the barrel, slide stop and adjusted the trigger. I received the repaired pistol today. The paperwork said, they replaced the barrel, slide stop and adjusted the trigger. edit: after putting my APEX parts back in, I noticed they replaced the factory sear with a new style performance center sear. After inspection, they did give me a new style barrel with the 10 twist. The slide stop might be new, but it is the old style. The trigger feels is ok, better than when I first bought it, better than the Core I tried today, and breaks just over 4.5 lbs. The trigger is slightly gritty, but much better than when it was new. When I first bought it, like many 9mm Pros, it shot 6"-9" low at 20 yards with 6"-9" groups. Today it shoot POA/POI. With the front sight centered on the target, POI is at 6 o'clock just above the front sight. Overall, I should be happy with the repairs, but the fiber optic on the front site is gone. Here is the biggie, the slide stop doesn't release on its own. The slide stop is rubbing the frame and will not drop when I pull the slide back. I have an email into the CS contact. I am thinking about ordering a new style trigger bar and new style slide stop and installing them myself and forgetting about S&W customer service. It is hard to believe they test fired it and didn't catch the slide stop issue. Edit: I fixed the slide stop myself. I just slightly bent the longest tab on the slide stop. The part that catches the slide. It moves freely now. Now with the APEX parts, the trigger breaks at 4lbs and is much smoother. Other than the fiber optic, all it good. 1:10 twist. The debris must be from their test fire. I was in a hurry, so I only ran 1 mag at 7 yards for a function test. Before the new barrel this would have been 3"-4" lower.
  21. I understand one of the issues with the old factory barrels is the slow twist. I thought the KKM barrels are even slower. How does the KKM barrel shoot different weight bullets: 115, 124, 135 and 147?
  22. I have an '09 M&P 9 Pro. It has the small sear detent, old style trigger bar, old style slide stop and the first gen slow twist barrel. The barrel has several thousand rounds thru it. It has always had an accuracy issue. I am tired of dealing with it. It has the Apex hard sear, RAM and Dawson Precision adjustable sites. I have used this gun for 3 gun and some USPSA. For 3 gun using IMG rules the gun is ok. For USPSA I miss a lot of points because of the inaccurate barrel. I would like to shoot more USPSA, so I need to fix this gun or get a new one. I have a few options: 1. New barrel, trigger bar and slide stop. Get a separate, better gun in 40S&W for shooting LTD USPSA. If so, can anyone point me to an in stock new version factory 5" 9mm barrel? 2. Get a new M&P 40 pro and spare 9 barrel. Put the Apex parts in the new gun, sell the current my 9. I would need a 9 pro barrel in this scenario. If so, can anyone point me to an in stock new version factory 5" 9mm barrel? 3. Get a new M&P 9 pro. Put the Apex parts in the new gun, sell the current my 9. Get a separate better gun in 40S&W for shooting LTD USPSA. What would you do? I could be chasing a pig by trying to fix my current 9 pro and a M&P 40 might or might not be a great USPSA LTD gun.
  23. Yeah, that is what I was thinking. The only 1:7 I have is a 10.5" SBR, so judging accuracy is tough. I will go with the 1:7. Thanks for letting me think out loud.
  24. I did a quick search. I am wanting a new barrel for my 3 gun AR. I am a club match shooter, I don't travel, but I would still like the best equipment I can afford. I want to try a good light weight barrel. The one I really want is the Wilson Combat 16" LW 1:8. They are sold out. Midwayusa has the same barrel in 1:7. To keep my cost down I shoot a lot of bulk 55gr in 3 gun out to 300 yards. We shoot about 75 rounds each match of just rifle. I am sure the 1:7 is a great barrel. I imagine it would easily hit the 12" plates at 300, but after running and all the 3 gun stuff, I want as much error out of my equipment as I can get. I have both and shoot both and I understand what the range of bullet weights (bullet lengths) are for both twists. I don’t want to talk about how heavy a bullet they can shoot. Nor do I want to talk about bullet stabilization. We have talked about the range of weights and bullet stabilization for these twists ad nauseam. What do you think about a Wilson Combat 16" LW 1:7 for 3 gun shooting? I am fine with waiting, but if there is not much difference, I will grab the 1:7. I know with bullets 62gr and heavier both will be great, until it gets over 77gr. Then the 1:7 will shine. I doubt I will shoot much over 69 grain in these matches. So the 1:8 seems like the better choice.
