  1. I was the good-looking RO on that stage, and I ditto everything thegirl says here . I have a new appreciation for ROs at major matches, and a continuing awe of what Porter has turned out the last 4 years. It was really, really cool to see everyone, make some new friends, and put names to a few faces. The shooters were by far the best part of the match - they worked their fannies off on our stage (well, most of 'em ), and really saved my back. Thanks to everyone involved for a really great 4 days. jr
  2. Oh. Not at all what I expected.
  3. Exactly! (thanks - I should have been more clear). The written / transcribed argument from today's hearing is now available HERE AS A PDF FILE The following question from the Chief Justice (I believe) tells us they are not likely to find ANY standard of review applicable to this newly-defined individual right. Instead, they will let the standard of review develop over time through future litigation: "CHIEF JUSTICE ROBERTS: Well, these various phrases under the different standards that are proposed, "compelling interest," "significant interest," "narrowly tailored," none of them appear in the Constitution; and I wonder why in this case we have to articulate an all-encompassing standard. Isn't it enough to determine the scope of the existing right that the amendment refers to, look at the various regulations that were available at the time, including you can't take the gun to the marketplace and all that, and determine how these -- how this restriction and the scope of this right looks in relation to those? I'm not sure why we have to articulate some very intricate standard. I mean, these standards that apply in the First Amendment just kind of developed over the years as sort of baggage that the First Amendment picked up. But I don't know why when we are starting afresh, we would try to articulate a whole standard that would apply in every case?" Meh. The Chief was looking for a narrowing of the arguments, in order to prevent taking an actual stand. I think Kennedy's position has reduced the chances of that happening. Should be very interesting. jr
  4. .png is a portable network graphics file. You should still be able to open it with any graphics program. If it is a good program like corel or something you can also convert it to jpg gif tif or what ever. Lookit the big old nerdy brain on Patrick! He's 'xactly correct - it's one of the very portable formats that should work anywhere. jr
  5. Bingo! Just saw it myself, and sent Pat at Infinity an inquiry as to whether it was coincidence or marketing. jr
  6. You're more than welcome (and thank YOU!), but don't forget the driving force behind DAPS, Mr. Whittmore. He's so low-key and modest, most folks don't realize that our club president is ALWAYS there, working to make sure everyone has a good time.
  7. Thanks very much to Robert and Steve for this series. What a treat to have to decide between a free gun and a free slot to Nationals! It makes my sore hands and aching back SO much easier to bear. I do believe the North Texas section is where it's at these days - we're very fortunate to have such talented and motivated supporters of the sport. The club presidents in our section have the vision to invest in our sport, and it will continue to pay dividends. Thanks again, guys! jr
  8. Pat is indeed the man. I took my Infinity to the shop today because I had, um, over-torqued my ambi safety in an effort to remove it. It turned out it was an OLD one, and Pat replaced it for me on the spot. I'm not telling everyone about this because I feel like I got some special treatment (if I did, I'm extra appreciative). I'm telling you folks that the Infinity guys (and Pat in particular) are honest, hard-working businessmen who know that customer service is what it's all about. Like Dillon, they "get it," and know from whence the business comes. These guys understand shooters, and love and support the sport. My Infinity handgun is the finest tool I've ever owned, and I feel good about it, not only because it's a work of art, but because they understand what customers mean to their business. I'm a customer for life, and that's why. jr
  9. Just loading up some ammo, got 2 primer tubes filled, and settling down to reload. Got about 2 bullets into it, when I met some extreme resistance on the decapping/depriming stage. Just pull harder on the handle. Uh-oh. Bent the decapping pin about 75 degrees south. Oops. They're hard to straighten out. Result? Decapping pin stuck in the decapping...um...cap. Dillon support to the rescue. Dave at Dillon took about 15 seconds to diagnose and pull up my information. New part is in the mail. Why can't every company be like Dillon?
  10. Yarrrr. There be no booty to plunder here!
  11. It's "condescending." Of course you realize I'm just joshin' ya. jr
  12. Stop spooning with Dave before bedtime. That's not good for you.
  13. I witnessed it first-hand today on the OTHER ammo-can/"luggage" stage (9). Someone on our squad shot with the top of the ammo can just below his belt as I observed it, but the RO saw it a different way. 4 procedurals. Subjectivity is defined by things such as your perspective, and I mean that literally. Where I was sitting, it looked fine. The RO was in standing next to the shooter, and called what HE saw. Who was right? Several people had differing opinions, but the RO's call is the only one that matters. 4 procedurals. Objectivity, on the other hand, is empirical and easily quantified. It is, or it isn't, regardless of your perspective. Incidentally, I managed to shoot stage 9 just fine, but I'll tell you this: I didn't enjoy having to focus so much of my energy on keeping my strong arm so straight that I got a muscle cramp from it... jr
  14. Mea culpa, and apologies...again. I'm fairly new to the sport and this board, and I used a poor example (with no ill intent, mind you) to illustrate the capriciousness of the "straight-arm can-carry" stages. My point will remain, however: this sort of stage introduces subjectivity, which invites judgment calls. I much prefer the objectivity of all the other stages. It either is, or it isn't. When someone has to make judgment calls, someone's going to walk away unhappy. Carina makes a good observation: per-shot penalties on an 8-shot, 40 point stage? That doesn't strike anyone as excessive? I'm done whining now. I've learned my lesson, and it's tough noogies for me. If I can't be a good example, at least I can serve as a warning to others! Good luck to everyone today and tomorrow. jr
  15. Stage 18 has the same stipulation. Silly me, I was focusing on shots and movement in the mucky mud and torrential rain, and instinctively raised my left arm as I always do when shooting one-handed. What did I get for my trouble? 8 procedurals on a 40-point stage. Silly is just one of the words that went through my mind... jr
  16. That'd be mine. Hope you all enjoyed it. I also left a pillow in room 377. If you get that, could you drop it off at the desk?
  17. I knew you were looking! My Glock is in semi-retirement, as I've gone to the Infinity dark side. Just don't say anything in front of her. This is gonna be fun. Can't wait to meet the new folks. I got a noogie for you, missy.
  18. I noticed the Las Cruces PD bunch is a squad or so away from us. Let me be the first to say: Word, Wavie!
  19. Well, since it's YOU, we'll...um...COMPLETELY IGNORE YOUR WARNING. Looks like the men in this squad are gonna need testosterone treatments. By the way - does my gun make my ass look big?
  20. Apologize? We haven't done anything. yet. Besides, the girl is the one with the potty mouth.
