  1. I just got out of a meeting. Did I miss anything? It's a great day. Extra added bonus: trigger locks are UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!! jr
  2. Here's a read on it: http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/polit...ing_gunban.html
  3. On the scotusblog.com website, the Live Blogger gizmo just popped up a survey: "If the Court issues a decision in Heller today, will the DC gun ban be..." 1) Upheld, 2) Struck down, 3) Sent back for trial. It's tracking 91% "Struck down" right now. Rats: More:
  4. Well, I had this in the HATE forum, and it got closed. I guess that means I need to like this. The Heller decision is the only opinion remaining from the March sitting. And still we wait...

  6. http://www.coveritlive.com/index.php?optio...code=909aaea565 Pretty cool to be able to watch live coverage as decisions are handed down from the bench.
  7. Watch for a followup soon. thegirl demonstrated the operation of her Dillon Precision XL650 press to the same reporter just today.
  8. Hey, Bob! When you coming back to the world? jr
  9. And now, there's video: http://www.viddler.com/explore/Jimbob_texas/videos/56/
  10. Note: Not a rebuttal...You really had an RO touch your gun?!? Wow. The worst was when I was taking the RO class, the instructor was one of those touchy-feely types who liked to "manhandle" the people in the class. He was grabbing people and positioning them so that they were the "right" way, without letting the person get into position themselves. Repeatedly. I finally asked him not to do that - it was dangerous. At this club (a private pistol club), their RO program is a little different.
  11. I was very disappointed to see "sudden death" didn't mean what I thought it did.
  12. A post in another forum put me in mind of recent observations regarding RO behavior. I've not yet categorized them, but that's only because I didn't want to put that much energy into it. Here's a first cut - feel free to pitch in. A caveat - some of these might sting a little, but don't take it personally. I've offered a couple of my own traits up for skewering. Take it in the spirit it's given. 1) Old Yeller - Apparently, this guy has RO'd a lot of hearing-impaired individuals. Here's a tip, RO: if people jump out of their skin when you scream "MAKE READY!," you might want to take it down a few notches, switch to decaf, or give up crystal meth before a match. 2) The Groper - Please don't touch me, m'kay? Don't touch me when I'm getting ready. Especially don't touch me when I'm shooting, and extra especially don't touch my gun while I'm shooting (yes, I've experienced this at a local pistol club that I'm a member of). And don't stick your finger in the empty chamber, dagnabbit. 3) Command-mangler - "If you understand the course of fire, and don't wish to submit a dissenting argument before the court, and after careful consideration of the consequences of your actions forthwith, please feel free to make ready." It's easy, people - "Make ready." "Are you ready?" "Standby" *beep* *bang-bang-bang* "If you are finished, unload and show clear." "If clear, hammer down, holster." No slide, no nodding, no question-asking, just a simple set of consistent commands for all shooters. 4) The Statue of Liberty - hold that timer up above your head, and at arm's length, because that's where all the noise goes, I guess. Guns are loud - just be somewhere in the vicinity of the shooter, and you'll be just fine for the most part. 5) The Stalker - you really don't have to be close enough to drip sweat on me. Guns are loud (see #4), I know my way around the COF, and I'm guessing you do, too. Let's just be friends, not close friends. Everyone needs a little space. 6) The %*$#-head. You know who you are. Be nice. People spent a fair amount of $4/gallon gas and money on ammo to have fun, not to have you be a you-know-what. Give the shooter a break. ROs - you know I love you, and appreciate what you're doing. Thanks. Really - don't touch the gun. jr
  13. I got pulled over by a DPS trooper recently (the speed limit was too low). Me and SgtSVI had just finished a match in Greenville, then gone to pick up a .223 silencer from a dealer. Needless to say, when we answered the question on guns in the car (6 or 7 that day, I think), he puckered up a little. The little SOB still wrote me a ticket. jr
  14. Last night, Catfish, thegirl, Kearsage and I were interviewed by HDNews' Jade Kurian. We spent a couple of hours shooting various video and talking about shooting sports. Look for a more in-depth interview with thegirl - they miked her up and chatted for quite a while. She was pretty focused - Catfish and I tried our best to distract her. I asked how/why they contacted us, and Jade told me that she'd seen our segment that aired on Fox News' "Lone Star Adventures" from almost 2 years ago, and she Googled us up and sent us an email. That was on Tuesday, and we did the shoot on Wednesday. HDNews is only available on Dish Network, apparently, so I for one probably won't see it there. She said that if they created a file she'd send the final to me. Otherwise, it might show up on their website one day. From all appearances, it was a positive spin on shooting, perhaps focusing on CHL or somesuch, branching out to the shooting sports as a way of improving shooting skills and/or confidence. The reporter even shot (after careful instruction from Catfish), and the camera guy got in on the action. The only tense moment for me was when the camera guy (Nigel) wanted to put his expensive HD camera BEHIND (and to the side of) a steel popper, and film me shooting that and a couple of other USPSA targets. I told him I was nervous about that, because if I got a partial hit on that steel, I'd probably kill his camera. He told me it was insured, but the deductible was kind of high - $50,000!!! Fortunately, it went off without a hitch, and I didn't shoot the $100,000 HD camera. Special thanks to Kearsage and Catfish for following through on it and setting it up. It was fun.
  15. And if you don't have a room by now, they're all out. I got the last ones.
  16. There's been a little movement: You are number 4 on the waiting list for the Open, Limited 10 National Championship, and you have already paid the $25.00 fee for your place on the list. Sweet. jr
  17. Ow. My pancreas. If you ever shoot her gun, keep your mouth closed. I almost lost my uppers.
  18. Beat me again, you dog. #9 PS: FiOS Rocks! 15Mb down/5Mb up, baby! jr
  19. It's rather Zapruder-like, but yes. There IS video. It's how we know what happened to her glasses. And phone.
  20. Investigators on the scene said there was alcohol involved. TheGirl could not be reached for comment.
  21. I was the one of the other ones with no trophy. The match was run very smooth and was very challenging. I applaud the guys that stepped up to RO the match. They were short handed on Range officers and the match ran smoother than some others I have attended that had a full staff. I approached a couple of stages with a hoser mindset and got caught in a speed trap that cost me points and penalties. I will be better prepared for the match next year. My squad was a hoot as usual and the gathering at the pool was one for the books. If you can't let your hair down in front of your friends what good are they. That pool also appears to have a strange appetite for Oakleys and cell phones, doesn't it Rhonda! Umm yeah, turned out to be an expensive (but really fun!) weekend for me... I'm sure the pool boy will be really happy with his new half-jackets! And it turns out that once a phone gets drowned it's hard to get all the data off of it. Sigh. Tequila is bad, you socialist commies! At least you won the wet t-shirt contest.
