  1. I had a blast shooting this match, which I personally found very challenging. It was technical, and really made you slow down (when, of course, you really wanna go fast ). Plus, I sucked, so add it all up, and I have a new practice regimen. Nonetheless, Squad 7 was a hoot. I know we (the Dallas bunch) have a hard time coming out of our shells and all, so it was good that Athena has a great sense of humor. Thanks to all who worked the match - we really do appreciate it. jr
  2. Extra super fabulous, thanks. I took a look at my holster, and it does look like a simple swap. Glad to hear about it from someone with experience. jr
  3. Okay, I've completed my journey to the Dark Side, and got me an Infinity for Limited. Quite an upgrade from the Glock 35 I've been shooting in Limited. Here's the question: I have a Ghost holster for the Glock. Can I just get the Ghost Upgrade Block for the SV, and swap it out on the holster assembly? It'd save me some money if it works (please, oh, please). Anyone have experience with this? Thanks, jr
  4. Aw, shucks. Weren't nuthin'... The local sports guy is a neighbor, so on a whim, I sent him an email. He said he'd pass it on to Richard Ray, who does the "Lone Star Adventures" segment (and also a neighbor, it turns out). The whole thing was set up within the hour. We actually delayed filming because of range scheduling conflicts until the 26th. Rich and Brad (the camera-guy/editor) were just great. Rich is a pro-gun kinda guy, and Brad has been a photojournalist in 7 war zones. I had recommended an outline, and they actually did pretty much all I had asked. We got a broad cross-section of shooters, and that was very gratifying. Having the girls there really made it click, and I thought the editing of Carina's part was particularly cool, and a good depiction of what she was describing. Mick Nelson was indispensible, too - he really helped with some ideas (no no-shoots, for example) that kept the focus on the sport, not so much the guns. Having a couple of cops on video didn't hurt, either. We gave Rich and Brad a little trigger time, too. They really got a kick out of that. My only regret was that we didn't get everyone that showed up to support us on film. Extra thanks to them for showing up to support our shooting sports. We're blessed with some extraordinary folks who selflessly donate their time and energy to our club, and we sure do appreciate them. All in all, it was a hoot. jr

    G35 Kaboom

Wanna see a real doozy? http://mysite.verizon.net/jimroth/2006/07/ka-boom.html Sorry, Patty - this is too incredible not to share. jr
  6. Speaking of which, take a look at what happened this weekend: http://mysite.verizon.net/jimroth/2006/07/ka-boom.html It's a doozy. jr
  7. I'm the web geek, and I've been busy getting the new site up and running. We've got pics, video, scores from our first match, and other junk. We'd love to have folks drop by, weigh in, add their thoughts, etc. But most of all, we'd like to meet you and have you come shoot with us. jr http://www.dallaspistol.com/
  8. Make sure you root for the Creekview girls team while you're there - they play at 11 for STATE! Go Mustangs! Of course, I'm shooting - my daughter will represent.
  9. $.02 worth - I've been to this match for the last 5 years, and I plan to go this year. In fact, it will likely be my only major IDPA match. Great match, tons of fun, excellent group of folks running it. You should go to this one. jr
  10. This should be obvious to even the most casual observer: cost. Have you priced self-defense ammo lately? About a dollar a round. Let's check the math, and consider that an average IDPA championship match would run me about $180 for AMMO alone. For that much money, I can load 2000 rounds of .40. Next question. jr
  11. Just curious. What does "purpose" or "spirit" chrono to? Here's the thing: "purpose" and "spirit" are subjective. Power factors are objective. That means they can be empirically measured and quantified. The rule book really isn't either/or. Mr. Wilson may have meant something in the purpose section of the rule book, but when you ask anyone to quantify what he meant, well, it's 125pf. I don't see the debate. Don't like the rules? Get them changed. Otherwise...move along, nothing to see here... jr
  12. For my Limited G35, I really like the Ultimate Ghost, w/ CR Speed mag holders. The Ghost is very configurable, so you can control several different angles.
  13. Geez. What a cynical bunch. Can't a guy emote? Incidentally, have you folks read the stuff over at the Texican Tattler? Good junk.
  14. I had an epiphany last night, as I shot my first IDPA match since the new rules were published. After the MD did the equipment inspection, it became apparent that we're all a bunch of non-tactical gamers. I feel bad about that, so I've adopted a new philosophy. What Would Bill Do? This is my new guiding principle for IDPA, be it equipment, COF design, or general shooting philosophy. This will require commitment on my part. First, I'm going to need to sell my Glock with the kydex holster and "shorty" mag pouches, and invest in some good leather and a Wilson Custom Combat. I figure that stuff will NEVER be illegal in this sport. I checked my Wilson catalog, and it looks like I can get everything there - vests, hearing protection, mags, tools, etc. Life is simpler now. I encourage my brethren and sistren to do likewise.
