  1. Whichever slug is most accurate, closest to POA/POI if you dont have adjustable sights, and 100% reliable. Manageable recoil is a plus. For me, I settled on the Federal Hydra Shok Slug LE127RS from http://www.sgammo.com/product/federal/250rd-federal-hydra-shok-slug-le127rs These are just a tad more expensive than cheap winchester slugs at Walmart, and proved far more accurate for me. Have been 100% reliable in a Benelli M1, FN SLP, and Mossberg 930.
  2. I am not having any issue with capacity with the Dawsons. The Arredondos with my G17 mags are supposed to be a "+6" in 9mm. They will allow 23 rounds in the mag, but it is TIGHT and does not allow for seating the mag on a closed slide. I only load 22. The Dawsons with my G17 mags are designed to offer a capacity of "21 or 22" rounds according to the Dawson video... however mine all fit 23 rounds with a little more room in there than the Arredondos.... so if anything, I'd say the capacity is better with the Dawsons. I still choose to run 22 rounds per mag, just because it seems like the entire mag is extremely overcompressed with 23, and to increase reliability on closed slide reloads. I did the follower fluff and buff on the dawsons.... we will see if that makes any difference on reliability. All my mags are latest generation with #6 followers.
  3. The video seems more focused on modifying the followers for getting the follower past the transition area when loading.... not while shooting, as it will be going in the other direction. For those who said they must be tuned/fitted - what specifically did you do????
  4. My bad guys... I got them secondhand with no instructions. Found the video.
  5. I have been running 3 extended Arrendondo +5's on my G34 mags for a long time. My G34 has never had a single hiccup during that time. I recently acquired 3 dawson precision +5's that came with extended springs. I installed them, and in the last two matches, I have had two malfunctions. One was a stovepipe, the other was an empty chamber click halfway through the mag in a course of fire. Rack-bang and I was back in action. Seems more than coincidental. I did not notice or mark the mags when they malfed... so I dont know if it is the same mag in both cases or spread across 2 out of the 3. Thoughts?
  6. Everything you need to know about antivirus and malware, this man just said. It's free, it doesnt slow your computer down, and it works.
  7. I have the 550 and long for a 650. I want both.... but I want to be able to set up the 650 and just GO. I typically do big runs of ammo, and the speed of the 650 would be nice to have. I think the biggest question is how many calibers you plan to load, how many you plan to run at a time, and how often you will switch calibers.
  8. This thread feels more like Arfcom and less like BE. It is full of drinking, zombies, "blowing", making our rifles look cool, and sexy underwear.
  9. where are all the posted times?
  10. So you are saying the primer is bring completely pushed out - then because the primer is stuck to the pin - it reinserts the primer into the pocket?
  11. For me... I started with a RockChucker - and I have zero regrets. I have a 550b and the chucker, and I would NEVER load "single stage" on the 550. A good single stage taught me the basics, the fundamentals. I loaded thousands of striaght wall pistol on it even! I then got the 550... and honestly, I do regret it. I wish I would have waited, and gotten the 650 with indexing and the casefeeder. I still do a lot of work on the single stage for precision loads, and the 550 spits out all my semi-precision 3-gun ammo in .223... but I would much rather have an additional station for power check, along with case feeding and auto indexing for speed.
  12. I was taught 40/60 split. Strong hand - 40% of grip - frontstrap and backstrap pressure. Support hand - 60% of group - full wrap pressure.
  13. I always take the aside and explain what I saw, and why they need to be mindful. Nobody wants to get DQ'd... they have always been receptive.
  14. That's a neat idea if not a bit ghetto. How about some youtube footage?
  15. I was working in the family machine shop... we were running a huge batch of casting molds for a foundry. Each mold was about 16" wide by 8" tall and 48" long. Think about 200lbs each. A coworker was running the baby forklift, which would BARELY pick up a pallet of these things. Oh - the hydraulics would lift it no problem, but our small forklit didnt have enough weight in the ass-end to pick these up... and ONE more stcked on the pallet would lift the rear end of the forklift off the ground instead of lifting the pallet. So be being the stupid guy I am... I catch him moving a pallet out of the shop outside to be loaded on the truck. While his head is turned as he is backing out, I thought it would be funny to push down on the pallet and lift the forklift up. Right when I do that, the damned pallet snaps and 16 of these behemoths just start rolling off the forks, my arm (up past my elbow) caught in all of them. My arm is trapped in the pile of them, and freaking out on adrenaline, I start yanking my arm outa there. Finally it gives. I dont know how this is possible, but nothing was broken. Only broken skin all over the place. I never messed with a moving forklift again.
  16. Yuck. I have never had one.... but I am sure my time is coming. For those who have squibbed.... did you typically figure out what you did wrong? I see them happen at my matches... but I typically assume the person is not a very methodical reloader.
  17. Our local steel matches are capped at 48 shooters, 4 squads, 12 shooters per squad. Even with everyone busting their hump, it can go over the planned time for the match. Anything over 12 and you are gonne be stuck on a stage too long, IMHO.
  18. IE9 rocks for me. Super, super fast. I wont use Firefox. It is too vulnerable to attack surfaces that are not exposed in IE9. Too slow to update and fix discovered vulnerabilities as well.
  19. One of the changes this year was to not have the points division specific, so (afaik) you can shoot the matches in any divisions and your scores will be tallied up no matter what division they were from. My understanding of the points system is that you get points for whatever percentage you finish in your division. Since there are no divisions at this match, if you chose to shoot HM or TI you are going to get whatever percentage you get based upon all the participants. It could be seen as a real disadvantage to shoot anything but TO at this match. I plan on shooting irons anyway. My biggest disadvantage is my lack of talent, not my equipment. If that's true - then that just makes up for all the times they get the prize table advantage for shooting Heavy in other matches.
  20. The only con of the dillon trimmer - is that is all it does - trims. You technically still have to chamfer and debur in additional operations. I read a story a while back in some magazine about a school shooting team that used the dillon trimmer set up in a press with a vaccuum, and they did loads all in a single operation, to save time and money. They acknowledged that you did have a bit more flashing around the neck, but not enough to keep a boat tail bullet from seating, and then the crimp took care of any debur needs. I wouldnt do that except for blasting/plinking ammo.... but they had very good results. If you tumbled them afterward for a good amount of time... that would likely handle removing any significant bur and not require the additional operation.
  21. My first ever .45ACP loads I used Rainier plated bullets. They were cheaper than jacketed bullets. I loved them. They wont lead the barrel unless you push them really hot, I worked up a nice soft shooting plinking and target load and didnt have any issues.
  22. I talked to them about both rears. One is not better than the other - it just depends on which style the shooter prefers. I went with 017-012 which is the smaller adjustable rear sight with a flat rear, and made for the .285 or .300 tall front sight. It was simply a matter of personal preference. Call them and talk to their sight tech too, if you have any questions. They were great on the phone.
  23. Good on him. And good on you for making the right call, no matter who the shooter is.
  24. Not sure what you mean? It has nothing to do with reliability. Simply, the empty chamber start, with a shell placed on the lifter. In a 3-gun match, you grab the staged shotgun, and you want something sticking up there to help rack that first round and get rolling. My hand slipped off the bolt handle in the last match I shot, so this is the first time I could see one being warranted.
