  1. The OP played it smart from the beginning when he specified sneak, peek, and play by the rules or similar leaving the run, gun and have some fun option open. To the OP: Five inch barrels are welcomed in ICORE and USPSA. You will find a wealth of knowledge in these communities on making the gun perform to its full potential. IDPA, for all its merits, limits the potential of the gun and its accessories to defensive nature dominated by a one size fits all mentality. Barrel length is always a trade off longer sight radius and recoil absorbing weight for draw speed and transition speed etc. and this is especially pronounced from a strong side holster.
  2. +1 on the Russian case idea. Enjoying shooting is the first step to being competitive. Moonclips all the way or you'll be forever hunting the brass in/on the grass/ground. Check out SL Variants or the guy thats making the aluminum speedloaders if you decide to go that route.
  3. I work on ships and have the same problem of how to keep the hand strength up away from the gun. I took a gripmaster white which is extra heavy. I would work it for five to ten minutes every hour one minute on one minute off. My goal was to see how many squeezes I could get in a minute. I would just carry it around everywhere in my pocket and use it during spare time much like other people smoked cigarettes. I did try to ensure complete crush and release to ward off the evil short stroke. I believe it has improved my speed shot to shot. I find it does have a limitation in the it doesn't build the extension muscles of the fingers which Jerry Miculek says the speed is really hidden. YMMV. Forrest
  4. Ducati and limited/open bottom feeder = overpriced and tempermental.
  5. I put the heel of the gun stock in the belly button and look the grab to the release into the cylinder and then my eyes (re)acquire the target as the cylinder is shut and the shooting grip reacquired. Start close to the holster and work left. The real question is how far left before the switch to the weak hand reload is made...?
  6. Clearly this has to be a belt fed weapon. Why else would it have that ventilated coffee can on the side?
  7. I met another revo shooter at a match recently and he said he called them up and they made him speedloader especially for his 38-40. So give them a try. Upon my inspection I thought they were quite serviceable and good for the hks design style.
  8. I went to a mountain climbing store that sells the grip strengtheners and I bought the extra heavy one. It did wonders.
  9. A spring for every shell! Sounds interesting...will it make the speedloader the fastest recharge method again? A little steep per copy though. The comp 3 style handle is available for every model though even the jframes.
  10. Another question...The ready tactical moonclips holders appear to hold the clips by one cartridge in front and one cartridge in back...do my eyes decieve? If not how is this legal? It says moonclips must be retained by three or more cartridges. North mountain and calcomps are four shells touching the frame. It appears this rule was made to disqualify the super cool bladetech design.
  11. Since Bob's Carriers stack two on a post is it now possible to have all three moonclips fwd of the holster? It appears that the cincealment requirements are met. Opinions?
  12. Correct division limit and power factor. Remember CDP is 165 not 125.
  13. Check the timing. I had same gun and same problem. Timing was off in three of my cyls. Are you certain you aren't short stroking? I have no idea how long you've been shooting revo so forgive the question.
  14. His 1.37 second reload was on his website last weekend. SPEED Loader not moon clips.....the plastic thingy with springs in it. I was so impressed by his technique that I tried it during the WHO portion of my practice today. Works well, but I dont think I'll switch sides.
  15. I vote Matt Griffin does a speed loader reload video and posts it. Not trying to be a work maker, but his moonclip reload is genius.
  16. I had a similar problem with a smith 66 wearing the hogue monogrip rubber with finger groove. In single action I could drive the shots straight but no matter how smoothly the DA pull was made the shot went 3 inches to the right with the sight dialed to the maximum left. I changed the grips to Pacmayrs which were bigger and fit my hands better and the problem corrected to a wide left impact instantly...until the sights were re-centered. YMMV
  17. I am shooting 3.9 Clays with a 230 gr speer moly and some 225 to 227 cast bullets lubed with Alox atop 4.0 to 4.1 Clays. The 230s are fairly stout but the cast are a lighter impulse. 3-5 grs of bullet down and two tenths of a grain more powder. Why? Guessing that the cast bullets have less resistance?
  18. In my case it's a 360 M&P loaded with corbon 100 gr powerball. I use the comp ones and two of them fit nicely next to my wallet stacked atop each other in the other pocket. The recoil is snappy and the gun is loud, but I think the first shot at something less than 1450fps will be enough. It is not that bad to reload quickly just remember to pop the ejector rod and all the brass is cleared. Loads easily with comp ones, but I did have the cylinder chamfered.
  19. Yeah I hear you about the five inch versus the four out of a conventional. I felt like I was drawing a lot more gun out of the holster versus my four inch. To be fair the four inch is polished and has a lot less drag in the holster than the bead blasted 5". I would just like that .25 and go. I realize it isn't going to be a miracle GM device. It's cool I"ll get there someday. Hopefully.
  20. I was under the impression that the 627 v comp can have the comp removed? Right? Wrong? Any idea what the comp weighs and if there are aftermarket replacements? To the OP: 1 Buy something with cylinders. 2 Get it running. 3 Shoot and learn about what you like and dislike. 4 Buy something else with cylinders and continue your enjoyment of life.
  21. Mike I recently had some work done to my five inch which was way out of spec for head space among other fun and excitements. The crane stretcher takes and squeezes the crane against a solid steel rod causing the pinched metal to flow(for lack of a better word) to the end of the crane making it longer. The one I saw used looked like a modified pipe cutter with a bearing in place of the blade. A byproduct of this is the increase of the barrel to cylinder gap. The proper way to correct this is to have the barrel set back. The opposite would be true if your headspace was too little and you trimmed the crane which would result in the barrel to cylinder gap closing possibly needing the forcing cone turned down for cylinder clearance. Hope this helps your understanding a little. Realize that the gun may still be within factory tolerances after stretching so perhaps the answer is to bump the PF of your loads up to see both guns through with the same lot? Anybody feel I have errors in my statement feel free to correct...Please.
  22. Thanks I really appreciate the link. I have a safariland for the sneaky games I was more looking for a speed demon gun docking station for the fun stuff like Icore and USPSA THanks everyone.
  23. What's the fastest holster out there for the wheelgun? Would also appreciate comments on security, draw mechanics, mounting, and adjustments.
  24. 1. Was this a sanctioned match? 2. I have shot a couple matches in IDPA format where they made you think on the fly by painting two targets out of four red and two black and threats were designated by the color of the last card drawn from a shuffled deck. Looking back upon this I think it was a good move and the experience was equally disrupting for everyone. So you couldn't game it out ahead of time...oh well. If you're playing the game enjoy it. If you're trying to use it as training it works all the better. How else do you illustrate a developing threat?
  25. I agree with your post sir, and I was referring to pointing the gun all the way to vertical but the capability of the gun to fire or not DOES NOT MATTER and I was wrong in posting it.
