  1. This is a great thing about competition shooting...the help from and chance to help others. I've got parts and tools in my bag at every shoot, just because I hate seeing DNF's. As far as EFP's go I am back to running a stock length with a rounded end to it...not the new pointy jobs and it is going well so far. I believe I'll head in the APEX direction eventually.
  2. As a former CDP shooter I couldn't help but pick on it. I love the super 1911's that can't run dry or need a special magazine to run. If you have policies than you have to bow to them; it's understandable. My personal opinion is that everyone should be encouraged to participate even if I have to be outlaw to get it. I have to concede the issue to this wise post. It is so much easier this way, especially since a rulebook update to allow the division would take forever. Do what you want...run what you brung...but do it in the other category. Makes sense, no?
  3. Sure bring your airsoft and BB guns to the match....I wanna see it knock over my steel. Being that their isn't a power factor, it got waived remember, I'll just calibrate it to major.....it is CDP right. Yeah see I was right.... CDP for Crummy Disfunctional Pistol. You could always give the shooter the option to run down range and ninja kick "your steel" down... after you hand them a catalog for a "real gun." You could even tease them and say, "Hurry up you'll be late for laser tag." You cannot deny that there is fun value to be had anyway you slice it. BTW I sure hope you are donating your time to the sport as an SO since you are kind enough to look out for "the SO" not "we SO's." If not I invite you to. I am[an SO] and I have no problem keeping track of any different requirements....provided it's in a rulebook for all to read and understand with a reasonable consensus (no secret email decisions). Thank you for your reply. I enjoyed it and mean nothing but amusement to others.
  4. I still say we allow it in the spirit of promoting the shooting sports. If you don't want to share the sport with a good attitude why not find a lonesome gravel pit where you can be grumpy and impatient? As far as the we've got whizbangs and whirlygigs that actuate off of steel...if they are in a different division just exempt them from being required to shoot same. Surely the time will be faster through the stage, but IDPA does not recognize uncategorized overall results, so surely your speedy11, wheelofortunate or combat tupperware score standing will be safe. I am of the opinion that this .22 should be limited to juniors, new shooters and elderly shooters for enjoyment and learning. I am not interested in turning the proposed .22 division into its own equipment race with .22 uppers on centerfire frames and experienced highly competitive types. Putting the .22 in the same match covers the supervision issues. As for putting it in the what you actually carry combined with reasonable defensive round counts division....that is purely a get out of my way I've got a big gun attitude that will disinterest a junior by making them wait around until there is no one to paste the the targets and no one to sing praises, make jokes and welcome them into the sport. If they ever allow BB guns and airsoft they should be put in CDP and given caliber, round count and power factor waivers.
  5. The checkering is OEM, so it WOULD be allowed in SSP on the G17 RTF2. The checkering is OEM for the 17RTF but when you put it to a 34 slide....the company did not make 2000 units like that so it's a sort of aftermarket checkering. I was totally kidding about the ESP, but if you're gonna play SSP it's just that...stock.
  6. As long as it has its own division why not? The age limit could even be dropped down to allow responsible children to shoot and enjoy themselves with the family instead of being stuck at the range watching everybody else go bang. If you had to modify or make allowances on the COF for the 22 division so be it. Folks are way to worried about their score and tiny little book covered in gun oil and powder residue. What ever happened to having fun at the match rain or shine win or lose? As for the .22 not being a defensive round in spirit or power factor....it beats throwing rocks or brass at the target...
  7. Since checkering is not allowed in SSP and that frame is awesome grippy...somebody is going to ruin your fun and frown on it. Good idea though...I like it. Do it up right with a super trigger, bronze guide rod and magwell and go play in ESP.
  8. The Federal primers are the same, but ATK who owns Federal also owns CCI and a bunch of other gun related companies. If they are short on Federal primers at some point, they may load Federal ammo with CCI primers, who knows? If you buy factory ammo, better check it out before you need to use it for hunting, self defense or whatever. Hehe I was leaving all that as non specific as I could to avoid the red ink wrath. Thanks for the input.
  9. Quick and probably silly question....Are the federal primers used in factory ammo the same sensitivity that ones we buy to reload? Just incase I decide to use my gun for more than target shooting...
  10. Gee mister that shure is a nice lookin' rig! Riddle those 8 shooters' score sheets full of x's! Six shooters rule!...until I get an eight shooter or they come out with a ten shooter of centerfire mass production.
  11. As an ESR/Revo shooter I say Gimme! Gimme! I'll figure out how get those tiny critters to major just for the shorter ejection and fun of it. I say, not that anyone or IDPA cares, that if it makes 165K...run it as major. Others will say if you play the game play by the rules. What makes shooting great is that people enjoy themselves, the target array, and the company. Who cares about the extra .051 or 2? The rule set in CDP does appear to shadow the progress of the 1911 producing sponsors.
  12. Since the slide release on the 34/35 was made legal for all models...a reasonable person would assume since the 34/35 has a cut in the slide other slides in that configuration would also have to be legal for that barrel length. That is a whopper of an opening in the top of the slide. I would compare the weight of the slide to a G34 slide because an opponent of your idea is going to go next to the added weight for a competitive advantage argument since it is most favored by those who oppose bringing a Glock up to division weight limit for more recoil control to better place lifesaving followup shots and limit your liability.
  13. This fella is spot on I find the North Mountain to be a very fast setup. My reloads are decent from the other guys, but the NM setup draws exclamations from shooters and spectators alike. Bob Perdue is also a very nice guy to deal with. Talk to him about it and you'll be sold.
  14. Yes sir I have to agree. I have JM grips on my gun and I feel the bullseye and I can't shoot factory worth a darn for the .44 magnumish tingling.
  15. I agree with your extra shot thought being a bad thing but how do you recover from this? The common one for me is the auto or revolver that got odd in the target array, running dry with one on paper hitting a beautiful reload and then moving on without doubling up. Is the best policy to shoot two on the target after the reload to get back even on the stage or do hicap shooters even consider this?

    CASHIER

She was a victim of karma. She took away with one hand and gave with the other.
  17. My father is handicapped and he enjoys a trip to the local Walmart now and then. I am often suprised to find that there are so many "handicapped" people in this world. Getting a parking space is almost never an option as unplacarded vehicles and highly ambulatory people with plates are taking the spaces up. So naturally part of my father's enjoyment is making calls to the police and noting the license plates to the dispatcher. You ought to see how uncivilized these people act when that happens. They shout, threaten and display all types of puffery until you say "STOP! LEAVE HIM ALONE! The police have already been called Sir/Ma'am. You don't want anymore trouble." The command voice is highly effective on the spineless n'er do well. The fact that there is no chivalry any longer really gets to me. No respect for the aged or handicapped. None.
  18. Also check or have checked your rear sight. Sometimes they are not centered. This is especially true if you have recently had night sights put on by a less than attentive gunsmith. Just a thing to check. You may also check to see that you are not trying to steer the gun with your support hand's relationship to the trigger guard or frame. In dryfire make a note of where the sights end up after the trigger press. They should not have moved from point of aim at the break. Best of luck.
  19. Thanks everybody I sure do appreciate it. Taper crimp it is. .452+.20=.472 Assuming the case thickness is .10. Got it.
  20. Are you having any difficulties with the different brass manufacturers? Something about the thickness of that groove? How are you liking the billy bullets? I saw that they are the only round nose maker around.
  21. If it's outwardly visible that "Hey what kind of trigger is that?" might be a question you'd get SSP probably is not for you. You might as well keep the magwell on and go for ESP unless you are doing a classifier and looking to make use of that extra ten seconds a classification.
  22. Both sports have their merits and faults. I do not like USPSA's mandatory reload business and then happy penalties for every shot taken until it's done. I do like the 32 required shots on this one...got a plan....standby...beep. Whereupon I try like the dickens to divide 32 evenly into 6 and laugh at the 4 rounds I have left in my partial clip. I do not like IDPA's stance on the internal lock, the transfer bar and reloading behind cover. I love it for only gigging me once per string on any given screw up. I also enjoy that I can have a great day and beat 75% of the auto's since I have only one more reload in 18 round max land. I like it when they melt USPSA movement in with IDPA's big circle and square of zero time down. I find that both matches have really nice people for the most part and somebody there can and will bend over backwards to help you if you ask. I have lost count of the friends made because somebody needed something. Bottom line is shoot as much as you can and always bring enough ammo for a second run in case you totally botch the first and are able to go back and at least learn to correct your mistakes. No it will not be for score, but you will leave with a greater understanding of what works and what does not.
  23. Do the C&S pins still have a convex surface the hammer hits? One thing I see in guns with stock or near stock mainsprings and C&S pins was that they'd dent the (MIM) hammer. The hammer would develop a concave surface where it hit the convex firing pin. Made the C&S pin functionally self shortening. MY 625 JM has this concave surface on the hammer face and did when I got it. It had a previous owner and came with the stock pin installed. I believe it to be a MIM hammer that was chromed or something else that happily flakes off combined with a stainless trigger. The CS and stock part look indentical on the end that interacts with the hammer. In other news I came up with a way to use the skeletonized hammer with the wonderful and worthy internal lock. Involves modification of the lock but ends up still working and isn't that what the IDPA wants?
  24. I have the stock firing pin in the gun now, but it's a pointy one like someone described the PDR of California approved droptacular. I am going to shoot it and then see about the APEX or just shortening a CS as I can get them around the corner.
  25. I built spec'd dummy rounds but did not glue the bases in the theory that when they got beat up enough I would fill them with powder through the primer hole and send them packing. I wore out traditions snap caps after a while, but changed to Azooms because the brass shavings were annoying. A Zooms are still holding up but who knows how effective they really are.
